then again...this is all still speculation. any ideas why a more hockey-savy site like TSN does not have this story mentioned? I don't doubt the deal mentioned will be taking place, but since when has yahoo been getting the forefront scoop of hockey?

Michael Ryder?

Glen Murray?

Sergei Fedorov?

Just a few forwards rumored to be on the move.

Ryder: Yes. Ryder would be a great, cheap, inexpensive pickup.

Murray: Eh... Murray would be ok, but his salary is a bit of a problem.

Fedorov: <_<

I'm predicting.......85% we get Stuart........65-70% we get Feds......They still seem like the most likely pickups, even though Fed's injury problem seems to be a concern. That is, if we even do a trade.....still not convinced its for sure.

I'd like to see us get Tuomo Ruutu. That would be a very solid pickup IMO.

I'm going to be sad if we don't get Hossa : (

I know it's unrealistic, but still....

They make a good point that Montreal actually has roster players they are willing to deal in order to allow Atlanta to still compete for the division. Too bad we don't... >_<

Put this in the deadline thread, but I felt it belongs here too.

"There are certain assets we're prepared to part with to try to bring in a player, but there are certain young players and assets -- they're not going anywhere," Holland said. "They're part of where we're trying to get to."

That, apparently, includes Filppula, and, based on how well he has played the past two games, the list also includes young defenseman Jonathan Ericsson. Holland said he would trade his first-round pick in this year's draft."

-Per Freep

I sincerely hope this doesn't mean that a draft pick is all Holland is willing to give up. Cause if thats the case, we're screwed.

I highly doubt that. I think it means he is WILLING to trade the 1st pick. The top young guys: Filppula, Ericcson, Kindl, Howard, will not be traded. Others are probably fair game: Hudler, Kopecky, Sammy, Meech, Quincey, etc. As is the 1st Round pick.

If we don't get Hossa or Jokinen, we're done. Dallas, Anaheim, and even Colorado will all be better offensively than us. And those offenses will also be better than our defense.

give me a break... we're done?!?! hardly.

just because we're in a slump, people are freaking out. If we had continued our normal pace the last 15 games, you'd all be laughing off the idea that we need to make some blockbuster deadline deal. We're bound to slump, there's no two ways about it. Would you rather slump in February or April? Now, chill out.

Oh and, I know a lot of guys are hurt at the moment, but none, NONE, are season-ending. So big deal... again, relax.

If we don't get a good secondary scorer and a another good D-man for depth, we're not gonna be watching too much red wings hockey in the post-season.

No I am afraid he is correct, and you, with best intentions, are simply denying the reality that the wings do not have the offense it takes to win the stanley cup. It's really painfully obvious if you can look at it in the perspective of either a) comparing our roster now to the rosters we had when we won the 3 cups, or b) look at our roster now compared to our competitions.

It sure seems like Holland missed the boat....again.

All the players left are not impact players, they're just role players.

The Wings have been amazing all year, and yes, this slump will end, but th efact remains that no one outside of Cleary, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, and Holmstrom has produced CONSISTENTLY.

Thus, when up against a hot goalie and a stifling defense in the playoffs, we need some consistent scoring.

Frankly, we needed a big name. Whoever we pick up now will probably be fine, but won't be the difference between winning the cup. For example, Federov would be a fine acquisition, but really would only make a difference as support for a big name like Hossa.

Selanne to the Flyers (e10), the Habs (e8) and Dallas (e7) JUST KIDDING!!!

haha but seriously all i have heard is that ducks are looking for a center. But burke does not want a rental and salary cap is a issue and the ducks have not locked perry up yet. So i dont see anything big happening.

Can you say Robert Lang.

Be careful using words like that around here. People here still think that Fedorov is a big name because that's what he was 10 years ago.

Apparently Montreal getting Hossa is a little premature. At least, that rumor hasn't circulated everywhere. The Trade show still mentinos Ottawa as a major place where Hossa might go.

WHo cares really, it is clear we aren't getting him. That's all that really matters. Whomever pointed out the fact the the only availabilities we could end up nabbing would come in the form of a role player, not a impact player such as Hossa, is 100% correct. Frustrating. But correct.
