johnnyoski 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 So many people on these boards say that the Wings need to get tough, need more guys who will do the dirty work. When there is a rumor of a guys who does the dirty work, everyone talks about how much they suck. I personally don't like the idea of Lapointe coming back, but people on theses boards are just too much. "I want a tough, gritty player! Well not that tough gritty player!" If you think that the executives of this team can just snap their fingers and the best players in the leagues will take a discount to come in under the cap you are crazy. You take what you can get and build from there. Sometimes that means taking a player who might not be an elite player, but is a player that can help the team. Somehow I don't think Lapointe fulfills this need. 2nd line goal scorer and blue-line depth are not part of his resume anymore. I think most on this board will agree that those are our biggest needs. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 why are we death against lapointe? he plays his best hockey in the playoffs. Give me a break. When was the last time he played well in the playoffs? He's washed up, which is why Chicago is willing to trade him for anything.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 I don't think he's been traded yet based on how TSN is talking about him...
Barrie 900 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 I'll be the first to admit I was interested in Lapointe at last year's deadline, but with McCarty back, we don't need Marty.

So Dallas might be getting Richards and Lapointe? Damnit....I'm not sayign we should have gotten Lapointe, his role would be redundant, but going to a team that just solidified their stance as a powerhouse playoff team...that's scary. There's better options for us. I'm glad McCarty's back, but I'm not interested in Lapointe and Fedorov too.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 Wouldnt hate it. I can bet he'd have more of an impact in the playoffs then Hudler or Kopecky.
LIDDYGIBBY5 1 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 I thought that was goal scoring.... my bad. I was under the impression that it was defense that you couldn't get enough of, but I'll take goal scoring second.

Losing 1-0 in two games now pretty much shows that scoring is more important than D for us right now... our GR Scrubs shut down the team but our scorers dropped the balll badly. In the off season i was all for a team entirely based on 20 D-man because that would be freakin' hilarious but they have gone away from that pattern.... Hank 0 Report post Posted February 26, 2008 The Wings should of went after him for a 6th round pick. I thought he would go for more then that. I'm sure it has more to do with the old-school rules of never dealing with an inter-division rival.
