damn that bondra hit, he leveled him lol. Come play off time this is what the wings need. the best part is Stuart is a relatively young guy late 20s... good stuff....

LOL He DESTROYED PETER BONDRA

Lord, you weren't kidding. Lang didn't fair too well either.

Anyways, clips like this make me feel good about the trade. It's tough to give up a second rounder in what is supposed to be a deep draft, but Stuart himself was a 1st round pick, and (therefore, obviously) a highly praised prospect when he came into the league. If he can deliver hits like that on a regular basis, he'll be filling a need here.

28 to be exact. Then we can resign him for pretty cheap after the year but we still needed a scorer

Not really. He is pretty much like a Calder only deal without Bertuzzi last year. a very small move

I disagree. While I wouldn't say Stuart is the grittiest D-man around, I do think he can contribute something that this team needs. Calder was hardly physical; he was just another small guy upfront.

I'm not saying that this trade was as big as, for example, the Hossa or Richards deal, but you get my drift.

It will be interesting to see if Stuart resigns / gets the money he wants. Wikipedia informs me that he was traded by Boston because they couldn't agree on a deal, then rather than resign with Calgary (for whatever reasons), he signed as a free agent with LA. I've got to think that if Detroit offered him a couple years at the same he makes this season (3.5 million), he'd be happy to play for a team that contends...but...that's purely wishful thinking on my part.

As for the Wings needing a scorer, I agree that they need guys to score, but they have plenty of scorers. They just aren't scoring. Detroit could have brought in any number of "scorers" (ie. Fedorov), but we have plenty of guys upfront who can accomplish what he would. Sure, a guy like Hossa would have been nice, but clearly that doesn't come cheap. The key to winning is not going to be adding one player, but by having every player contribute. So, let's hope that happens!

By the way, I'm sure this has been posted elsewhere, but it is relevant:

The "highlight" here is this statement by Holland: "He can play a little bit on the second power play." Perhaps he will take Sammy's spot on the point, which can only be a positive thing. Also more info about other offers Holland made.

I get where you are coming from, but Dan Cleary was pretty much the same way: 27-28 years old, been on three teams (Chicago, Edmonton and Phoenix). I am not comparing the two by any means, but you never know.

So, he is only 28 and has already been on how many teams ? 4 teams ?

Boston

San Jose

Calgary

LA

That worries me.

Nice youtube clips . Stuart and McCarty will provide some needed strength to the team. Both guys hit hard, and opposing players will have to keep their heads up when they are on the ice.

True, we need some more scoring, but so does 29 other teams in the NHL. The Salary Cap has mixed the talent around.

Awesome. I'm impressed... if he plays physical like this then come on .. lock him up.

He is young and Detroit could put him to his potential.. like we did with Cleary.

We need aggressive players like this..

I just hope we can hold onto him. Haha, now I'm excited for Friday against San Jose..
