redwinger4747 6 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) This summer, the Wings should try to do one thing: Trade for Olli Jokinen. He is unhappy in Florida and wants to be traded. Therefore, it won't take quite as much to pry him away. We need help on offense and there aren't any big free agents to like except Hossa who would be very difficult to sign. He is a perfect 2nd line center for us and at a good price at 5.25mil. I'd say Hudler, Meech, 1st, 3rd. Maybe Sammy too. Try hard to hold onto Filppula. I think it can be done. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Uh huh, right. Because trades like that are such an easy task to accomplish. Holland is too dead set on not giving up prospects to ever get anyone meaningful in a trade. Besides, you're nuts if you you think the Wings are going to get Jokinen for garbage players like Hudler and Samuelsson. If anyone takes those two off the Wings hands, it'll be for free. The only way the Wings make a decent trade is if Filppula is involved, which I do not see the Wings giving up. I have been extremely disappointed in Filppula this season, but he still has potential that, at least in Holland's mind, outweighs giving him. I'd have no problem with giving up Filppula for an established star player like Jokinen; but does Holland feel the same way? Probably not. I can see this coming summer being yet another awful, boring summer, where Holland does nothing but sit on his hands again. Hopefully he at least signs this Brunnstrom guy, or these damn prospects that are supposed to be "untouchable" start developing.
Son of a Wing 1,644 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) He is unhappy in Florida and wants to be traded. That is 100% pure media speculation. There has never been any proof. I'd say Hudler, Meech, 1st, 3rd. Maybe Sammy too HAHAHAHAHA You're kidding right? I don't mean to be a dick, but this guy is a franchise player. The Red Wings you listed have close to no trade value. A few scrubs and a couple draft picks for a top 15 forward in the league? You're dreaming. Now I'm not going to trash you're proposal without putting up a trade of my own. Although I wouldn't do it....but it's what I think Florida would ask for Jokinen. Filpulla, Kronwall, Kindl and a 1st. edit...wrong quote Edited February 28, 2008 by Son of a Wing

Maybe wait 2 years then sign him as a free agent? He'll only be 30. Edited February 28, 2008 by redwinger4747

Jokinen has an excellent contract for the next 2 years.. but look for him to sign for around 9mil in 2 years time... if he were traded it would more likely be a straight up trade for another high end player in the league... NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 (edited) I just have a question.....why do people always post trade options and throw out guys like Hudler, Sammy, Lilja and Lebda? It's funny how everyone on LGW ******* about these guys and then expects other teams to be happy about trading a guy like Jokinen for some of them. If you can see these guys' flaws and their limited potential, do you honestly believe other teams' brass can't see it as well? Seraph 240 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 Holland is too scared to lose is job or reputation by doing ANYTHING. He's just going to rely on Detroit's good scouting.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I love this. Everyone is always complaining 'we have too many centers' and the solution to this is ALWAYS 'let's trade wingers for centers!' Jokinen won't be acquired by the Wings this summer. If they have that kind of cap space to play with and want to pick up a forward, they'll get a guy like Hossa or Rolston who is a UFA first line winger. Not Jokinen, who is a signed center. RusDRW 155 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I like the proposal but I don't see it happening. However, if we'll be able to keep Cleary, sign top 6 winder like Rolston and Brunnstrom the Cup will be ours next season. Unfortunately, I do not see it happening too In the best possible scenrio we'll get Cleary and Brunnstrom which is also OK for me.
shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted February 28, 2008 I don't think Florida would move him. They need a guy that can sell tickets and right now he is the only on the team that can accomplish that. If he was so unhappy, and if the Panthers were willing to trade him, don't you think that would have done it this year or even last year when rumors were going around about him getting out Florida? If they did trade him, they would go after at least one marque player in return. Again, they need someone who can put butts in the seats. I don't that Hudler, Sammy or Meech would qualify as one those marque players.
