Hockey player are real men

What I love about Cleary the most is that there are guys that are questioable. Guys like Flip, Franzen, Huds, they don't show up night in and night out. But with Danny boy, he gives you 100% every night, all night. I've honestly never seen him play a bad game, he either plays well, or he plays VERY well, without exception. Sometimes he doesn't get the production, but he still deserves it.

As dumb as this might sound, this guy gives makes me believe that this team can win the Cup. I mean, ZDH, Lids and Raf are all outstanding. Problem is, all teams have outstanding players, and on any given night you can't always assume that your best players are going to outplay the other teams' best players; sometimes its a wash. I don't think every team has a Dan Cleary. This guy's got victory in his eyes, and every time he's on the ice, I get almost as excited as when ZDH is out there.

I just can't say enough about him, and I think that it's clear that he is a more important part of this team than any of us originally thought. Get well soon Danny Boy (and f*** you Sammy! hahah)

I take very strong exception to that. Flip and Franzen are two of the team's biggest hustlers, IMO. Especially Flip. A game doesn't go by without Flip creating a goal by beating someone to the puck, or creating a power play by forcing the other player to take a penalty. And Franzen seems to be the heir apparent to Homer's throne in front of the crease. Hudler, I can't vouch for him quite as much, but I know this: a guy as small as he is does not score, ever, without some measure of hustle to him.

cleary is a champion. does anyone have any pictures of him? preferably some with his kickass playoff beard?

love this clip.. so clutch.

I was at that game!! I miss Cleary soo much right now. Glad to see he is getting better and, it appears, through the worst part of his injury. In relation to those clips, when I think "clutch" Dan Cleary, I think of this:

Cleary has lost 15 pounds since the injury

That was my biggest concern about his injury. He's going to have lost a lot of strength/weight when he comes back. He talks about putting it back on, but you can't gain a stone in weight - over and above your natural weight - in 3 weeks.

But still I have a huge amount of man-love for Cleary and I wish we had another 5 of him.

Bulls***. Filppula looks like he can't skate and is constantly thrown off balance, and will look like a rag doll in the playoffs. His fluke goal against Edmonton would have been another fluke win for the Wings (see Minnesota game) if Lillypad hadn't f***ed it up again.

Franzen, however, does his job well on most nights. Any scoring he does is just a bonus.

Hudler is done.

Can't skate, are you serious?? Skating is one of the best parts of his game. Probably half his points come from outskating some opponent to the puck and shooting it himself or creating a play. Scored a pivotal goal in the Calgary series last year and has been doing it ever since.

Ya, I see what your saying. And in hindsight, I shouldn't have even wrote Franzen, because he is one of my favourites on the team. However, what I am more referring to is the fact that Filpulla has gone some pretty long streaks this year without or with very few points and/or goals, whereas, when Cleary is around, he is remarkeably consistent. That said, Flip is a hard working guy with some amazing skills. I just wish he'd take the shot more often, you know? Hudler, I just don't know about this guy. In my eyes, he just doesn't have the skill set necessary for a little man to have success in this league, not right now at least.

Yes, they are. I think it's a common misconception that football players are the toughest, no offense to any football players here. I see them down the ground for 10 minutes only to get up and walk off on their own will 99% of the time. I skated up when I wasn't playing goalie years back and I ended up breaking my hand (bastard tripped me) but I finished my shift and then got off the ice. I didn't care, my other hand worked just fine and could hold the stick and get the puck out of the zone. But that is just a grain of salt compared to what Yzerman did.

Cleary is my one and only true love. No just kidding I say that about every player. But seriously, he's a badass. Total badass :sly: . Everytime you see him he's got a black eye or something. He's like a pitbull, though as nails. Poor little thing though with his jaw. :( God bless his hard working little soul.

Wow, I am glad to see that we have some of the happiest, most positive people on this forum. Minus the lillypad thing.. I have to agree with that.

Anyways, Dan Cleary is unreal... one of my favourites on the team. Always, always working his ass off for this team and he really has improved a lot since he came here because he strives to get better.

Anybody want to watch that interview its 2:56 ;

Pro wrestlers are the toughest guys around. After that I'd pick hockey players.

I don't agree.

I will say that going through a wrestling match is likely rougher than a hockey game in some instances. However I don't see the difference in practice that much, and how often do guys wrestle, compared to playing hockey. Wrestlers match up like once a month, hockey players do it 2-3 times a week.
