jim3033 1 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 (edited) It's no doubt Bettman wants expansion teams to win and no team to stay great for a long time to emulate the NFL. Is Bettman, a man who never played hockey, ruining the NHL? Should he be forced to resign to someone who knows hockey? Teams like Nashville and Atlanta that caused the lockout are still struggling financially. Doesn't this make a mockery of the CBA? Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 1, 2008 Tonight is a great example of why he should get the f*** out. He's a cancer to hockey and there's not a single hockey fan I've ever met who has had a positive opinion of him. Unfortunately, s***head owners like Leipold have been keeping him in charge for years. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 He should definitely resign. He's the reason for the Wings losing streak right now. I hope he can go become MLB's commissioner or some other sport I hate instead of hockey.
jim3033 1 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 (edited) This year we really started to see the 'fruits' of the CBA. Babcock said that today "being healthy is currency" that's basically what it is anymore. Steroids will be a bigger problem since teams can't do s*** to get any new players anymore. Money is totally pointless, you get 8 big players and then cheap ones. This leads to bulls*** reasons to play for teams like "is the city pretty enough?" and great players that Detroit builds from the ground up like Cleary leaving to go play for Atlanta because he can get 2 million more. I've felt like this for awhile but this net goal and it's timing put me over the top! Edited March 1, 2008 by jim3033

Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted March 1, 2008 I wanna pee on him. Can I pee on him? Only if you have some asparagus an hour before (asparagus makes your urine stink). Has anyone here watched Bettman in a news conference? He plays numbers and stats that favor anything that makes his tenure look like a glowing success. I know these types because I have worked for fools who spend all their time not building a top notch organization, but in running endless numbers and picking/choosing the ones that sound good. He runs the NHL like a mix between a debating club and Enron. It is maddening, but this kind of double talk BS permeates business (healthcare and government too) and Bettman is a pure businessman (in the modern BS metric manipulating sense of the word). What he will never get is the passion of a fan.

eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 if bettman wasnt commisioner a few things would have happened by now: 1)We would still be on espn Correction. Would never have been on ESPN to begin with. Or did you forget that it was Bettman who got the NHL on ESPN to begin with? 2)There would be video replay just like in football, and a coaches challenge Most traditional hockey people, like the one you want in charge, have typically been the last to admit video replay is necessary. 3)and if someone who played hockey before was commisioner then there wouldnt be so many weaksauce penalties Because we all know that Bettman said to the refs "Go call five penalties per team, don't care what, whether or not you see anything, because that way we can have parity' and he didn't say "Enough of this 'personal style' refereeing. Here's how EVERYONE will call each of these penalties, and here are some examples. This is how the rule is written, so this is how we're calling it."

HenryMalredo 2 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 There shouldn't be any teams below the state of Michigan. I'm no Bettman fan, but this reactionary philosophy would result in the league being more backwards than it already is.

Grim 5 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 you think expansion was done to help the league?? ha! more like the greedy owners with their arms out reaching for their piece of that monstrous franchise fee. the sad part is, Bettman and the league would rather see these new teams flounder and fold than let them move to more profitable locales (subverting the franchise fees). eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 you think expansion was done to help the league?? ha! more like the greedy owners with their arms out reaching for their piece of that monstrous franchise fee. the sad part is, Bettman and the league would rather see these new teams flounder and fold than let them move to more profitable locales (subverting the franchise fees). Since you are making a veiled reference to the Nashville sale...the league would rather see teams succeed in their current markets. That's why they have the bylaw about new owners having to make a good faith effort in the existing market. Balsillie wanted to buy the team and move them IMMEDIATELY, which violated that. He also wanted the BoG to rule on the sale and the move at the same time, which is also against league bylaws. Furthermore, he wanted them to rule on both things without a binding agreement in place, when the league bylaws state that the BoG cannot rule on any sale of a franchise without a binding agreement. He wanted the league to give him special treatment in three separate instances without laying down a penny. Had Balsillie followed the standard protocol everyone else has to follow and does without problems, he'd have his team and would probably have the Hamilton Preds in town by 2010. Why do people just look and say 'Nashville bad. Hamilton good. Bettman must have had his dirty paws in and prevented Leipold from taking the offer' when there was TALK but NO REAL OFFER. IceMunkee 15 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 I think Bettman is the greatest thing that has ever happened to the sport. Man I hope that he never gets fired and never dies. Yak19 303 Report post Posted March 1, 2008 Bettman is corrupting this league. He looks at it as a product not a sport. The Wings are not in his market expansion plan therefore they get shafted alot.

Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted March 2, 2008 (edited) Yes Bettman looks at hockey as a business, as he should. However, if he was actually running it like a business, he wouldn't be shunning his established fan base for new ventures. You keep your business and grow it, not abandon what you already have. If you've ever worked as a waiter/waitress, it'd be like abandoning a table for another halfway through the meal and expecting both a tip and return business. cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 There shouldn't be any teams below the state of Michigan. Okay, which would mean no Anaheim/Colorado/San Jose. That would mean no team to destroy...Where is the fun in that? As bad as it sounds, I actually know absolutely nothing about what Bettman has done, like I mean NOTHING. Aside from hearing what other people say, how he wasted a s***load of money and lost our broadcast on ESPN..and several other things.. So I am going to trust the 100% of people who I have heard talking s*** about Bettman over the 0% of people that have ever defended him and say he's a huge ****** and should resign. Seriously though, who could take over... most people in that high of a position completely fail at what they are put there to do...
