NFM, I am in fact referring to "other posters" (and they know who they are). But the last comment you made smacked of the same pessimistic undertone that they bring to this topic. Like we're all too dumb with our rose colored McCarty glasses on to understand that he may have limited minutes (at least initially). No offense.

None taken.....and while I agree with you in regards to the annoyance of the naysayers, I feel the "McCarty will be our savior" comments can be just as annoying. Mac is definitely going to bring something to the table, but I worry that some people here will expect too much and unjustly trash him if he doesn't live up to their exaggerated expectations.

Agree. The same exaggerated expectations they would've placed on Feds had he been acquired at the deadline.

Besides...your screen-name alone gets you off the hook! :D

Yes but just based on his side he has an immesne advantage over drake. Ive been in well around ten adrenilined fueled and your body just natrually knows how to scrap when pissed or thretned enough. Drake may be better pound for pound but I would bet on Bertuzzi a hundred out of a hundred times.

I guess based upon your size logic Tie Domi (5'10" 207 lbs) would lose in a fight to Bertuzzi (6'3" 245 lbs). I'm not saying that Drake is anywhere near as good of a fighter as Domi was but merely refuting your logic that Bertuzzi would win the fight becuase he is bigger. Perhaps it matters much more that Drake has been fighting a long time, much more often, and against better fighters. But yeah he's not as tall and doesn't weigh as much.

The problem is, now it doesn't make any f*cking sense!

Atleast he's a Wing again.

I liked someone's suggestion on here to simply change it to Never Forgot Mac #25. Not a big change for you, but more relevant to his current status.

Yeah, thats not a bad idea.

Sidenote: I completely agree with you about your Feds comment. It absolutely would've happened.

First of all, it kind of bums me out that Downey won't be playing in the playoffs. I liked his intensity and his desire to stick up for his teammates. I am excited that McCarty will be back in Detroit, but really what D-Mac will we be getting??? He is now old, so will he fight? And if he does, will he win at all? I know a lot of you here think he is going to be the Mac of 97' come playoff time, but let's be real here that ain't going to happen. He will be a 4th liner at best and maybe get Draper and Maltby excited to play hockey again. Either way, I hope the Wings get there act together and after last night's victory against Buffalo they are starting to look back on track. Here is my lineup's I hope to see in the playoffs:

Zetterberg-Datsyuk-Holmstrom

Cleary-Filppula-Hudler

McCarty-Draper-Maltby

Kopecy-Franzen-Samuelsson

subs: Downey/Drake

Lidstrom-Rafalski

Kronwall-Stuart

Lilja-Chelios

subs: Meech/Lebda

I have barely read any responses in this thread so I apologize for repeating any previous points.

I'd love to see the McCarty of old play to both help the Wings and for nostalgic purposes, but I'm not holding my breath. I just think he is a long ways from NHL game shape still, although this is one idiot's opinion far south of Michigan. Others would probably know much better than me if he's getting to that stage in Grand Rapids.

Nevertheless, a fairly harmless signing I think. Minimal amount spent, I don't expect McCarty to impact the scoresheet all that much, and I think it'll create some friendly competition for playing time with Drake and Downey as they all seem to play similar styles.

According to your lineup here, you took Downey out. I thought you said it would be stupid to take Downey out.

Yea im an idiot dont know why i added drake in there

Although the possiblity of the wings being 100% healthy come playoff time is highly unlikely, so the exact roster and line combination can go many ways

i am fairly new to this board, so i don't know any of the history of mccarty hatred/support. i can say this though. i saw him play a couple weeks ago and he didn't look very good. he looked a step slow against the ahl guys. while he did shot that hustle to get back to the d-zone unlike most forwards, he wasn't exactly turning heads out there.

i agree with people that there isn't much bad in the situation. they simply have to cut him a few checks that won't exactly bankrupt the team. but the problem i have is so many people think he will have a legitimate impact. i found it funny reading this whole thread in 1 reading. there were so many people that basically said this would win the wings a cup this year. then someone would reply along the lines of 'your dumb. mccarty is washed up' so then soeone would flame them back with 'we never said he was wayne gretzky' but the problem is, lots of people really do think he will have some huge impact. i also am amazed that so many people out there seem to have the impression that winning fights wins hockey games. i think the physical play of someone is much more important than their ability to drop the gloves. being a tough player that doesn't take stupid penalties and even draws a few, that is helpful. but having an enforcer that just fights other enforcers doesn't really help the team in my opinion.
