Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 Tiny recap: Boo! Yay! Yay! Yay! WTF?BOO! Yay! Not so tiny recap: They scored early on and we all went "here we go again", but then we stepped it up, scored 3 goals, there was a scrum involving everyone except a couple of Sabres who went in and scored. We scored an inusrance goal and won. Highlights: Sammy got assist #25. Yes, he PASSED THE PUCK!!! Lilja got the save of the game; great enough to get some people to actually like him. Kronner controlled the defensive portion of the game and set the offense up nicely. Stuart looked good again- seems to be a good pick up. Dom was great and did something funny that I couldn't see since I had radio feed, and lousy feed at that. Franzen looked great. Flip and Huddie showed up and played. Downie brought us energy. Drake and Malts had their best games of the season. I do believe tha t Dom and Kronner just needed last game to get back into the swing of things and that they are now Forces To Be Reckoned With. Those who saw the game report that an octopus was thrown on the ice. LGW members hillariously debated the feasibility of throwing a Buffalo on the ice. The Buffalo radio guys can not say Flip-a-lu-la to save their lives. Remember all those games from back in November and December when the Wings were housing the entire league? Secondary scoring, outshooting the daylights out of the opposition? Yeah, basically like that. Lillypad made the stop of the game when Hasek got caught on the wrong side of the net, stack-the-pads style. Pure "secondary scoring", the only point from Z or D was a Datsyuk assist on the insurance goal. And Kronwall kinda sorta looked like the defenseman he was drafted to be. Cheers guys, much appreciated. I just watched the highlights and all I can say for the Sabres second goal is WHAT THE HECK? That's one of the strangest goals I've seen. Lilja and Kronwall played great games, what is happening!
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 I still say the toughest part would be smuggling it into the arena. Cut it into pieces? PEEE-YEEWWWW. At least you can boil the smell away from an octopus. I dunno how the Buffalo radio guys were butchering Filppula's name, but it can't be worse than the CBC guys from the Vancouver game, whose attempt at the name sounded like "Feeyil-Pyoo-Lah," as if Flip were actually born in Sept-Iles or something. I don't think Finnish names are supposed to be quite that tortured-sounding. Not only can you not boil the smell out of the buffalo, can you imagine the size of the woman who could smuggle it into the arena in her underwear? Ok, I volunteer, but only if the Sabres are playing the Ducks and I get free tickets. Better make it two. I'll take up that many seats with a buffalo encased in my Fruit of the Looms. They said pretty much everything except Filppula. Flip-u-la. Fil-lip-u-la. My dad can't say it either. His is Flip-a-pu-li. Or Fil-lip-u-li (long I sound on the end of those). He had one I can't even type. I don't know how he managed to say all the L's without vowels between them. I've finally got him to say "Val" or "Flip". Maybe we need to send out a memo. I'm suprised no one's called him Fibula yet. P.S. We're baa-aack!
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 Hip hip hooray for secondary scoring. Hip hip hooray for Hasek making solid stops. Hip hip horray for Lilja playing temporary goalie for a few seconds. And hopefully you didn't yell out hip hip hooray as like I typed it, cause that is kinda dorky. RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 Nooo! First day of study today, finished early, rushed home to listen to the Wings game and I see it's finished! It was an early start I take it? Anyone care to give me a tiny recap of the game? I see Filppula scored a goal and an assist and we seriously got some secondary scoring! Maltby, Drake, wow! FYI I just figured out several weeks ago you can stream the games live through Yahoo - usually I do the NHL audio also if it's not televised out of market. The feed was awesome - just like watching it on tv....don't have the link right here but just go to yahoo-sports-nhl next time.
Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 Red Wings never retreat! Red Wings never surrender! Go spread the word. Let every Opposing NHL Team assembled know the truth of this. Let each among them search his own soul. And while you're at it, search your own. REDWINGS@@@@ PREPARE FOR GLORRRRYYYYYY!!!!!!!!

VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 Holy s***! We won, it's a miracle! No, sir. This is not a miracle, this is the Wings getting back on track to who they're supposed to be. I don't want to get too eager here from just a single win, but the Wings are going to get back into their dominating ways and make anyone who counted them out eat their words....again....for yet another year. However, i remember seeing them together with about 10 mins left when we were up by one i thought they were gonna f*** up lmao
Packer487 3 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 That's a lot more like it! As other people have said, Kronwall and Franzen were both fantastic tonight. I'm still not used to Kronwall playing that well, but I like it. Now if he could stay healthy for the rest of the season we'll be in business. Hasek played a really solid game. The first goal wasn't the greatest (though it was a 3 on 1), but he was great after that. He made some huge, huge stops. I don't have the foggiest clue what that second goal was. That was quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen a hockey team do. The goal SJ scored was 100% the refs' fault. This one is 99% on the Wings. Yes there probably should've been a call on Buffalo, but you just can't send 5 guys into the scrum when the play is still going. Even as our guys were skating over there I was thinking "Umm...whistle? Please?" and then Ken is like "Look out here!" and I started yelling profanities. That was moronic. Flip looks like he's busting back out of his slump and I've actually got more hope for Franzen to be effective come playoff time than I do Sammy or Hudler. If we can get Raffy, Lids, and Cleary back and keep that second line going, we're still going to have a great shot at this thing. I wish we had found a forward because I do think it would've helped us a ton, but when everyone's back we've still got a great team, with a great goalie. Man that win felt good! Zion 93 Report post Posted March 3, 2008 What a great game! It was amazing to see Kronwall playing like LIDSTROM. Making plays, blocking shots... he was EXCELLENT. Kirk Maltby really took charge, also... and it was great to see him net his second goal. We went nuts.
