jim3033 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 If by "you guys", you mean the rest of the world, then yes. Its also the proper name for it according to IUPAC, and they decide these things The things a chemistry degree teaches you eh? Well, I've taken inorganic, organic and physical chem. I don't really care. It's funny when you haven't seen it like that before. I think it was one of those 1800's decisions and it has just stuck. Everything done now seems to be the same though. Vincanni 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Not a win to be proud of, and overall a rather pitiful third period. My biggest concern with the wings style of play this year has been the prominence of them playing down to their opponents, whether it's losing to a bad team or giving up with a big lead. Thankfully I don't see the trend continuing through the playoffs.
seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 That's why there's 3 periods to a hockey game people. Nashville played one, and it wasn't enough. Yeah it was sloppy, and you want your team to play a full 60, but 40 and a win is just as good as 60 and a win.

Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Doesn't the NHL review the games and realize the horrible calls that are made? Why do these refs keep their jobs?
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Not a win to be proud of, and overall a rather pitiful third period. My biggest concern with the wings style of play this year has been the prominence of them playing down to their opponents, whether it's losing to a bad team or giving up with a big lead. Thankfully I don't see the trend continuing through the playoffs. I'm certainly hoping it doesn't continue into the playoffs, but for the first time, I'm a bit worried about our goaltending. I've said most of the stretch that I'm fine with either. Hasek's definitely improved immensely over earlier in the season but then there's games like this that remind me of the concerns I've had since his return. I just don't see him as the consistent finisher he once was. Osgood had it for the first half of the season and then as injuries piled up for the team and his own natural slow down, he's lost it a bit. I still feel that it doesn't matter who starts as both at their best have been great, but as the dust has settled and problems have become more identifiable, it's also clear that they both seem to share similar problems in not being consistent finishers. No matter who starts, they both need to turn it on for the playoffs. Hasek needs to leave everything he's got left on the ice and Osgood needs to remember what was working in the beginning of the season.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 well, yay, I missed this one, but I have it on DVR. Sounds like it should have been no worse than 4-2, except for the usual. Bad bounce and bad officiating. Other than that, how did Lids look first game back? I will go watch now, hope you all had... fun?

cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Only Wings fans could ***** about a goaltender giving up six goals over three games and three straight wins. Okay, nobody is bitching about a goaltender giving up six goals over three games / three straight wins. We're upset that the whole team stopped playing to their potential allowing stupid shots on net and the fact that Dan O'Halloran scammed his way into the NHL. How much do you think he paid Bettman..? Perhaps "bitching" is a bit of a harsh word. Let's call it "nay-saying". At any rate, Dom had some great saves. The team as a whole looked good until they went on a coffee break or something. One man can't do it alone. I was hoping for Johan to get the hattie, but oh, well. Congrats Franzen on your first multi-goal game! Woohoo for Yoooo! Don't get me started on Dirty Dan O'Halloran. <growl>
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Only Wings fans could ***** about a goaltender giving up six goals over three games and three straight wins. I am glad Lids came back OK. I've been very worried about him, as have we all. Anyone who complains about Hasek in this game is never going to be satisfied with any effort -- can't win good enough to suit some of us, so I won't worry about that. Dom saved the game, stoning Erat with less than two minutes remaining. That's what you need, big saves at the crucial times. I am concerned, as is everyone here, about the team losing focus and losing leads, almost the game, in this case. It does sound like the officiating was a little off, as usual, however. THAT we can b*tch about, right? Hey, we won. Two points.

I hope not. So far, I haven't seen that Dom was the problem today. If someone wants to think that... well, OK, then. The third (which I watched first, because I am a mascochist, apparently) was very smully. Wings will do better next game. They missed Homer. Oh, and yay, Stuie, for his first goal as a Wing! Yeah well if we would have had a better last 20 Min's. Dom would have had a better GAA. He's already first in the league with a 206 GAA.
Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Just got back from the Joe. Great game! Wings looked really solid until the last 10 minutes there - no way should have it gotten that close, but good win nontheless. Stewie picks up his first goal as a Wing! puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted March 9, 2008 Yeah well if we would have had a better last 20 Min's. Dom would have had a better GAA. He's already first in the league with a 206 GAA. The fact that Dom's been first in GAA for weeks now hasn't been a particularly big deal to anyone here. It shouldn't be a big deal if he winds up second to Ozzie. That just means they're both good and they're both ours. He cares about wins, stats are gravy at this stage of his career. I am sure the Wings wish they had all had a better third, but the W is what is important.
