T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 They declared it a tie???? *******...KEEP PLAYING DAMNIT! Agreed.... you already broke the record, make it a legit record..... Ideally keep playing, but if concerned for the kid's health, at least reschedule the overtime.... Ties should not be a part of sports or competition!
RedWingedKitten 9 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 (edited) The team i'm on (clarkston) was eliminated in the round right before this. (by st. marys) I was sad... However 8 OT's is outrages!! I heard some kids stoped sweating and were getting sick! Those goalies mush have been out of there mind!!! Edited March 11, 2008 by RedWingedKitten

seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted March 11, 2008 I heard it was only the 2nd longest game in US high school history, but regardless, it's incredible. I, too, wish they would have kept playing, but if kids were actually in danger, then so be it I guess.
cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 Lol co-champions? They should've changed the rules around to allow more scoring.. it's better than declaring a tie.
McCartyFanForLife 17 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I'm not a fan of shootouts deciding games in the playoffs or championship games, but it would be better than declaring a tie.
wingsdiehard13 33 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 My team was eliminated one round before we would have played Marquette... Speaking of long games.... Earlier this season, my team played a 6 OT game. I guess it was the 3rd longest in Michigan high school history, and was something like 46 seconds off the record. Looks like we get bumped to 4th... We did win the game tho

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 can someone please sum this up for me.. the article wouldnt load Marquette and Orchard Lake St. Mary's played in the Division 1 hockey championship and the game ended in a 1-1 tie after 8 OT's. High school plays 15 minute periods and 8-minute OT's so it's not quite the same as the pros. I don't have any problem with the decision, except that they didn't consult the coaches beforehand. They ought to have simply declared a longer break between OT's and used the time to talk to the coaches to get their input.
interminded 1 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 I think it's kinda a cool they declared it a tie. Big deal. Everyone wins.... literally..
Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted March 12, 2008 co-champions tahts bs I guess you and a few others missed the parts in the article that talked about the kids being dehydrated and the players themselves being quoted as they were too tired to even take off pads. How much BS would it have been if one of these kids had keeled over dead?
12Newf 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2008 i actually witnessed a kid die during a soccer game i was playing in a few years back partially due to heat exhaustion and seriously these kids sounded like they were in rough shape. i am no fan of ties either but that much hockey is completely crazy and when health starts to become an issue its just a game, call it a tie. Agreed. They article even stated that the didn't call it a tie because they just felt like it, it came to that decision because of fear's for the kids' health. I don't like ties as much as the next guy but I don't like kids dying even more. Edited March 12, 2008 by GordieSid&Ted
