cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Ovechkin love to score. He loves when his team scores. He loves to play hockey. He is a very refreshing athlete. In a era where you have a-holes like Barry Bonds (the whole steroid argument aside), Allen Iverson, Koby Bryant, and T.O., to see a guy wear his heart on his sleeve EVERY shift makes you realize there are guys out there who still love what they do. Besides, Ovechkin is just as animate when something bad happens. Anyone else remember his reaction the Semin scoring in his own net, and all but ending the Caps playoff hopes? He is a true leader. All skills aside, he is the type of player you want on your team, no questions asked. Sorry, I wasn't paying attention to Ovie when Semin scored the own goal... somebody want to explain to me how he reacted?
LucRobitaille20 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I don't like his celebrations either. If he went wild with his teammates, then I wouldn't mind at all. But it seems kinda selfish for him to just go off by himself and celebrate.

'Cause I think it was Backstrom who scored on his own net, and Ovechkin dropped to the ice like a sack of potatoes, covering his face. I'm sure that made Backstrom feel better. haha! Anyways, it does get kind of tiresome seeing Ovechkin act like it's the first time he has scored every time he nets one - but oh well, if it makes other people excited about the game, do what you want. I'm more of the 'act like you've done it before' type though.

HkyTwn 5 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Normally I'd agree with you but in this case I love that a Russian is able to show some real emotion. I agree.
TheLegend19 1 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 It doesn't bother me. The guy loves to play and loves to score. The excitement is good for the game.
toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I generally don't care, but it does annoy me when he celebrates so much when he scores to put his team up 6-1 late in the game, or he scores when his team is down by 6 goals late in the game. In those situations, it just doesn't sit well with me.
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Spot-on. These are all off the cuff, and there's no taunting going on. It's just AO being really excited about scoring and showing it. I absolutely love the emotion he plays with. Not just when he scores, but like when Backstrom put the puck in their net. I have a gigantic man-crush on Ovie. Ovechkin is a legend. My favourite non Wings player by a long way. I for one love his goal celebrations, love the passion!
zata40 3 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 My bad, it was . Ovie looks like he just took a sucker punch to the twins. poor ovie! For me, I love how he celebrates. It don't think he showing off either, he's truly is that excited. anyone ever see him when one of his teammates scores, he's just as excited. I just love him! SweWings 45 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I like the fact that he's so raw and emotional. Doesn't automatically mean that he doesn't have class. The only reason I can understand why it's "wrong" for him to celebrate the way he does is that he sort of ignores his teammates, but usually he just jumps into the boards and then he's suddenly surrounded by the other guys. I can't say I've seen him shove people off that many times. In any case I hope he continues with his heart-on-his-sleeve kind of play for as long as possible. And the Yzerman comments are unfair, Ovie has barely started his career and I don't doubt Washington will surprise a lot of people next year with Ovie obviously playing a big part. Tane 17 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 Wow, yeah, geez. Isn't it Terrible, when we've come to the day in age, where players actually LIKE TO SCORE??? That's awful. I'd rather when my team scores to just put their heads down and go to the bench. Better yet, when My team wins the cup, I'd rather see them not celebrate either. Everybody just go to the locker room, have the captain go shake bettwoman's hand, and then skate off....Don't want to show up the other team now. Better yet, lat's just build a bunch of Robots. that way when they score, we KNOW that there's no emotion there. Instead of some of these punbks that have emotion, but try and hide it. Anybody that has a problem with ovechkin isn't a real fan of hockey, or sports in general. You have no pride, no emotion, and no recollection of what it was like to be a kid and actually love the game. It's sickening to see people trash on A guy who, along with Crosby is going to revive this game, and make it exciting to follow again. And PS3 is way better than 360. I would agree that PS3 has much more capability than the 360, however as a total package (games available, cost, playability) the 360 takes the edge. In 3 years, when games, and tv's have caught up to the PS3's abilities, it will be more worthwhile purchase.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I think a lot of us are getting our panties in a bunch over this a little too much. Lighten up some. Overall I don't show emotions that much in life but if you don't have some kind of positive emotion or vibe after scoring a goal more often than not, you must not have any kind of central nervous system, at least one that is normal. Ovechkin plays with plenty of emotion and passion and knows when to keep it under wraps and when to let the emotion out. I wish a lot of players showed the passion he shows just about every time I see him on TV.
RedArmy 4 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 doesn't annoy me at all. AO is one of the most exciting players to watch. plus get crazy when his team mates score as well. If anything he gets his team going....
FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted March 14, 2008 I love it. I don't think it detracts from the team at all. I wish Zetterberg or Datsyuk would have a lil' post goal celebration, especially if it's a game changing goal like Dat's 2nd one against the Stars tonight. I can't remember (although SOMEONE here will) who did it, but after they scored a goal they did a shotgun move like they were shooting trap. It was hilarious. NHL needs more of this, not less.
