Barrie 900 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 Ehh, I wouldnt bother going downtown. If youre not too far, you should hit up the Birmingham/Bloomfield area. Henrik Zetterberg lived in my aunts neighborhood in Birmingham on the west side of woodward - not sure if he still lives there. Luc Robitaille lived in the 555 building off of woodward in Birmingham (met him at 2.89 dry cleaners in birmingham). Brett Hull lived only a couple blocks from the Blockbuster in Birmingham off of old woodward (met him at that blockbusters and saw him buy some girl scout cookies). I think he lived on Ann st, but Im not positive. Steve Yzerman has lived and still does in Bloomfield Hills for as long as I can remember. His neighborhood is off of Long Lake, between woodward and Lahser. When Hatcher was here, he lived off of Lahser, north of Long Lake, practically across the street from Lahser high school (where I went to school some years ago). Robert Lang lived in Birmingham around the same place where Zetterberg and Hull did. Hudler also lived in Lang's basement all of last year. (I met Lang at cheeburger cheeburger in birmingham off of 15 mile...go figure...and my cousin babysat for his daughters. Jennifer Lang was teasing Hudler for a while that he should take my cousin to her prom.) Dominik Hasek lived in the bloomfield/birmingham area when he played here the first time. Not sure if he still lives here now. And finally, a good friend of mine is half Russian-half Ukranian and she goes to this Russian disco in Pontiac where she has met Pavel Datsyuk at least a couple times. Then again, if youre looking for the Draper/Osgood/Maltby crew, Im pretty sure those guys live out in the Farmington area. And I thought Nick lived in Northville, but I think I might be thinking of someone else. Other people probably know more about that area than I do. Yea my Uncle is friends with a guy who lives in Birmingham, he runs into players all the time. Hull lived behind him, one house over.
Yzermania19 1 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 (edited) lol some one gave me the address...I havnt went to see it for myself. probably wont either..its kidna creepy I actually have found out where a few Wings live over the years, purely on accident, mostly. A few years ago when Igor Larionov played for the Wings his next-door neighbor's house caught fire and Igor and his wife were the ones who woke the neighbors and alerted them to the fire. Idiot newspapers printed the address of the neighbor's house. My best friend's cousin used to babysit Dino Ciccarelli's kids, so I found out where he lived through her (he doesn't live there anymore but the house was in the news last summer when a plumber killed the girlfriend of the owner in the driveway of the home and stole her jewelry. At one point they mentioned the owner purchased the home from Dino). I used to work at Hudson's department store and one of my work friends worked in the bridal registry department. She came down to see me one day very excited, and told me she just spent the better part of the afternoon helping Kris Draper and his fiance with all their bridal registry stuff. She gave me a copy of their registry - they were having all the gifts sent to their new home they were having built. LOL I know the house in Birmingham that Shanahan lived in when he was with the Wings - a friend worked for a real estate agent at the time and one of her boss's colleagues sold the house to Shanny. My dad's a handyman and one of the guys he did a job with several years ago laid carpet in Shanny's house. I confess I took a drive past it once - I had done some shopping in Birmingham that day and I was just curious, nothing more (I'm no stalker, I just wanted to see what it looked like) and wouldn't you know I saw a truck pull into the driveway and Shanny got out! IIRC, it was in 2000 - wasn't that when Shanny broke his foot blocking a shot and had to wear a boot for a while near the end of the season/start of the playoffs? I remember thinking, that was definitely Shanny because he had that boot on. My dad also worked with a guy who painted Stevie's house but he wouldn't tell my dad where Stevie lives, just gave him the main cross streets (like, "He lives around Long Lake and Woodward." That kind of thing). Of course, that's what my dad told me. I also know the address of the house he and Lisa used to live in, in Grosse Pointe, but I got it after they'd already moved to Bloomfield. They moved sometime during the 1997-98 season, because I remember the articles in the paper after they won the 1997 Cup talked about him taking it home to Grosse Pointe, but the next year they mentioned his home in Bloomfield. I also know the subdivision Curtis Joseph lived in when he was with the Wings, because it was a very exclusive, gated community that just happened to be a client of the PR agency I worked for at the time. No home in that community was under $3 million. I guess if you live in the area long enough and talk to enough people, eventually you will find out where someone famous lives. 2probert4 8 Report post Posted March 21, 2008 I got to meet him also, just after his probation was lifted from his coke charge. He was doing a promo in Leamington for a car dealership that my grandfather worked at. When Probie arrived he called my mom who pulled me out of school so I could meet him. He was really nice and signed an autograph for me. What I most remember was the size of his hands. They were like dinner plates. I met Kocur also, and his hands looked terrible from all the scar tissue around his knuckles...

cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 (edited) This was years ago, but I ran into Probert at a gas station on Ford Rd, he signed some autographs for me, including a picture of him fighting Troy Crowder. Pretty cool to say the least I know Prob's daughter pretty well because I went to school with her for a bit and my buddies sister is probably one of her best friends. Apparently. he's actually a really nice guy, and of course, I still haven't met him. All I know is he has a biiig house and a bunch of motorcycles in a wealthier area of Tecumseh... And I've met his wife a bunch. Edited March 22, 2008 by cirov19

WingMachine91 0 Report post Posted March 22, 2008 I fail to see why some people talk like hockey players (Red Wings) are so famous... they're just regular people who play Hockey. I love hockey and think it would be great to say "Hey, what's up man?" to anyone on the roster (Just as I treat local college Hockey players here at Ferris State). --needless to say, I partied with Kunitz (now with Mighty Ducks).. he was a Ferris State bulldog here in my home town. yep, he's just a regular guy... I for one could careless where a Hockey Player lives. What I find most interesting about this thread was Mac saying he's playing Friday, that's all I care about. I could give a shiit where he hangs out, where he lives, how much he bets at the casino.... I just want to see him bash someones head in then score a clutch GWG in game 7 of the stanly cup finals... Sean Avery was on MTV cribs like a year ago or some shiit. There was nothing special about his Crib, in fact, it was kinda basic. What I found most interesting about that episode was Alisha Cuthbert (spelling) was at his House for the show.. that's all he had to brag about! And how the hell does a Hockey Player get a chick like that?? I could see people being all funny about talking where famous people like Brad Pitt live... that I get, because they are "stalkable". Hockey Players don't even really make that much cash. Yeah, sure $3 - $5 Million a year is good money, but an owner of a small business can make that too... yet nobody wants to put them on MTV Cribs. haha! In summary, I could give a shiit that someone spots a hockey player, what I do find interesting is Mac is back, providing the OP isn't a troll and fishing for attention. i disagree. because u said brad pitt is stalkable, because hes an entertainer. well thats what they players are too. they are idols and they bring us great joy and memories. for that i think it is worth talking about meeting them. tell me if u saw steve yzerman in person where u were, ur heart wouldnt skip a beat and you would treat him like anyone else. bratt pitt, steve yzerman, to red wings fans, its all the same. I think a lot of it depends on location. I'm sure no one on a beach in Florida is going to stalk Olli Jokinen, but lets say Iginla is walking around in downtown Calgary, or Guy Lafleur in downtown Montreal. In those instances, I wouldn't be surprised if those guys get mobbed and followed around, with the occasional stalker here and there. I wouldn't imagine that it'd be different with Yzerman in Detroit, due to his popularity.

Oh, I'm sorry, I forgot that being all over the news and media, and making millions of dollars for entertaining doesn't qualify as 'famous.' Actors are the exact same. Nobody cares about a person who makes their own money because we don't look up to them, they dont keep us entertained, they do what they do for themselves and half of the time the stuff they do don't allow us to benefit from it.
