Guest Crymson Report post Posted March 23, 2008 Whenever the team plays a bad game or a few bad games, topics get created asking what is wrong with such and such or speculating as to whether we have some huge problem with the team that'll end our playoff hopes. When the guys play a nearly-perfect game such as the one they played today, no threads are created to celebrate it. Have we become so accustomed to success that we expect perfect games and no longer appreciate them, and instead just complain when they aren't given to us every night? Can't we give the team a hand for once? /me applauds the team for a great game played.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted March 23, 2008 If this game had any meaning to it, it'd be one thing. But the Wings already have their playoff spot wrapped up two weeks ago. Besides, it's Columbus. Nothing special about beating them. If it had been Anaheim or San Jose that the Wings would have so handily dominated, I'm sure there would have been a thread about it. I think there was one for when the Wings beat Anaheim 2-1 in their own building last time. But, this is Columbus we're talking about. Sorry if this sounds spoiled, but I expect that the Wings beat, and dominate for that matter, Columbus every time they play them. Why? Because their a terrible team that is nowhere near a playoff spot, and the way they played today was evidence of that. The Wings are a million times better, and should beat them every single time. But... I guess you have a point. The Wings did play a good game today.

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted March 23, 2008 (edited) I didn't get to see the game. I am still bitter bout it, btw. Thank you, Comcast! First game i've missed since becoming Wings fan which was only about 11 years ago. Yep..no big deal. I'm sure they were great though. Besides, it's Columbus. Nothing special about beating them. Yet if they'd lost such a game, there'd be a thread about it. This sort of thought process is exactly what I'm referring to; the team is EXPECTED to win these games. We shouldn't take the team's success for granted like this. Such behavior has unfortunately become rampant on these boards. I don't understand it--how does it help? meh, ill applaud them when we win 4 playoff series Case in point. Do not think in such a black-and-white sense. The Stanley Cup is won via a series of small successes. Each regular season win is such a success, but many people have come to take regular season success so much for granted that they don't appreciate these successes. Fans from every other team in the league haven't had the luxury of such consistent regular season success over the past 17 years. Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted March 23, 2008 Crymson, you are exactly right on this one. Over the 18 yrs that I have watched the Wings, I remember when it was a big deal when we beat St Louis, Chicago, and Toronto (former Norris teams) and now since we have won alot over the years we are alwyas expected to play perfect everynight! Also, its not the Wings fault that they played Columbus lastnight, they just happened to be on the schedule. You can only play one game at a time, and I thought we played great lastnight. The Team is getting healthy again, and you can see that. I think that sometimes the expetations for this team are way too high! This team has a great shot a winning a Cup this year, but the only way wea re going to do that is if we go into the playoffs healthy, mad and hungry! Then it won't matter who we play!! I applaud the guys for lastnight and this month for turning thing around!! LETS GO WINGS!!
DaKineMaui 8 Report post Posted March 23, 2008 Over the 18 yrs that I have watched the Wings, I remember when it was a big deal when we beat St Louis, Chicago, and Toronto (former Norris teams) I remember the same. The Hawks might be 20 pts out with 2 games to play, Toronto would be right on the bubble - Chicago would decide to bring their A-game and get the 'W' for no reason. I think The Norris Division was where "Any team, on any given night" came from. Fun. (Good news is: Chicago looks like they're making some moves to rejoin the NHL no?) aloha
jim3033 1 Report post Posted March 23, 2008 It's true. Before the 10 game losing skid the GDT's were around 28 pages. Last week they were around 14 and last nights hit 18. I think Wings fans developed a complex after getting swept in the first round a few times with such high hopes. I think we have the physicality and playoff goaltending to avoid an early exit now though. Hopefully those days are over.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted March 23, 2008 I think they've still looked pretty sloppy lately. That kind of play won't win playoff games and beating up on the Blue Jackets isn't exactly an accomplishment. I'm not booing, but I'm not going to applaud too much or get too excited until I see what they decide to do in the playoffs. Our D needs to be tighter, we need to get Cleary and Homer back and producing like normal and our goaltending needs to be tighter and consistent. Again, not hating, just saying I'm not going to get too high on this team until the playoffs should they deserve it then.

Something that annoys the dickens out of me is the doom-and-gloomers the Wings are just screwed on end or will be dead eliminated in the first round, without giving reasons why or when things, for the most part are going fairly well like right now I think. And I am nowhere close with lumping people who express their doubts of the team, potential weaknesses in the playoffs, and so forth with some detail, basically more than "WINGS SUCK AND ARE SCREWED" like we occassionally see. On the flip side though, I cannot stand when the positive police come out and say people must be positive ALL THE TIME and chew people out that are in this middle ground and who basically are nowhere close to saying these guys stink and are going nowhere. That is just as much being out of line I think. Edited March 23, 2008 by SouthernWingsFan

cirov19 1 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 I will applaud them on not letting there playoff clinching get to their head. I know they should've won the game anyways but they are still worthy of an applause because we know how often the Wings stop playing to their potential and set their standard to the skill of the other team and they didn't do that yesterday. Good game boys. Go Wings, go cup.

I actually agree with you, I think they did a good job too. I am really looking forward to seeing a completely healthy lineup, I think it's going to make a big difference. You can see the playoffs in the eyes of a lot of players right now, on all teams, the pace is starting to quicken and it's starting to look like hockey out there. WOOHOOOO!! Bring on the Cup baby!! haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 Definitely. The Wings don't have a ton of incentive to give it their all and are still fighting the injury bug. Yet they've found ways to keep winning these Groundhog Day games. Wake up. Play columbus. Wake up. Play columbus. Wake up...
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted March 24, 2008 I think what's even better about the Columbus win is that it's in-division. If I need to explain to you why that's good, you haven't been watching Red Wings hockey this season.
