I cannot stress this enough.......

Detroit MUST win on Sunday!

Because the Oilers beat the Avs, Nashville has a shot to claim the 8th seed making them our first round opponent. Chicago couldn't beat them to do their part.

If Detroit losses to Nashville, we might have to play them.

I HATE Nashville, otherwise known as Classlessville, with a passion. I want no part of playing them, they are dirty and could beat us up. Even worse would be having to watch at least two games in Nashville where their fans are morons who chant stupid, stupid things at odd times inbetween horrible country music and drunken fights.

They don't deserve a team, let alone a playoff team.

Please Please Please beat them on Sunday, even if that is the only win for the rest of the season.

Out of all our possible first round opponents, Nashville would be the worst. They are my east favourite team, and our divisional opponents have played us well this year.

:caution:

Suck it up. We get whoever we get. Babcock is not and I hope not going to ease up on the guys at all the rest of the season. No reason to rest anyone yet. We need to get all the guys back from injuries (except Stuart) and create some chemistry amongst the lines.

And stop acting all high and mighty just because you're a Red Wings fan. You are the reason people despise Red Wings fans.

the preds are one of two teams that i would actually WANT to play. then or the avs, even though a healthy avs team scares me a little. we wipe the floor with nashville. i see them as no threat. their goaltending is beatable, they can play dirty but we will have the likes of mccarty drake and downey to whoop ass if any of the players try to be dirty. i think this team is ALOT more gritty than last year with mccarty, downey, cleary, drake, lilja(pain train), franzen, holmstrom all big bodies and can dish and take punishment. this is a totally different team and a team that can hang with the likes of calgary nash or others

With a San Jose team that is rising fast in the points standings, we should take advantage of every opportunity we get to gain points/keep pace. And that means doing precisely the opposite of what you're endorsing.

Detroit shouldn't be concerning themselves with who their opponent is and how well their opponent is playing. Right now, they should be concerned with getting themselves ready for the playoffs, whether they play Colorado, Nashville, Vancouver, Minnesota, Edmonton or Calgary. And it's a little hard to get yourselves ready to play in the postseason when you're resting half the team (For more information on this subject, please reference the 2001-2002 team after the Olympic break).

Facty fact fact. It's been well and truly shown that going into the playoffs on cruise control is a bad mentality and leads to first round difficulties, if not an outright ouster. If the Blues earn no points in the games against us, they're officially eliminated from the playoffs, so let's step on their throats, give those jealous Blues fans one more straw in their haystack of reasons to hate us, and go into the playoffs in high gear rather than having to try and flip the intensity switch.

And yes, having home ice in a potential series with the Sharks is huge. Wings have clinched home ice in a potential series with any team but San Jose and Pittsburgh, and Pittsburgh's practically a done deal, but the team has gotta keep the focus high.

well said.

the main reason that i have in this vein of thought is that we need to reconnect the chemistry of the injured players. that, i believe, only comes from playing to win.

don't get me wrong, if we clinch, we should maybe rest a few. but i think chemistry and momentum are the trump cards.

it is different than in years past-before the cba-when we were light years and galaxies ahead of everyone. but now, we need to dress for bear. or duck, or shark. just not for a blue jacket...

There are no guarantees in the playoffs, I don't care if you are the 1 seed or the 8 seed. None of this picking your poision stuff. Two seasons ago the bottom seeds all beat the top seeds in the first round of the playoffs. I don't care who the opponent is, the first round will be a dangerous one of the Wings don't take them serious enough.

I find little sense in your line of thought here. A lot of the guys that have been injured for decent stretches are going to be the ones that will be playing significant time in the playoffs in all likelihood, and you want to rest them (whenever they get healthy) as well as current Wings who are healthy? I know line combos often change but these guys need to get playing again soon and there needs to be some settlement of line combinations and such so people can get comfortable playing together.

And I find it hypocritical that we give Nashville fans crap for instructions on "how to cheer" when a lot of the times you could hear a penny drop in Joe Louis Arena.

You talk is if the Avs played their last game of the season and the preds only have one game left, vs us... Win or lose vs Detroit won't give them the 8th seed. Think about it, would you?

This is an ignorant topic. We could easily handle Nashville and it's only an hour plane ride away. I wouldn't mind playing them in the first round.

We need to be firing on all cylinders entering the playoffs. Almost everybody but Pavel have had their rest so right now the emphasis is on getting everybody back playing at the top of their game. Who we play in the first round is out of our control. My preference would be to not play a team that will require us to spend lots of time on airplanes such as Vancouver or Calgary but my preference really doesn't matter.

I want Aneheim to play Dallas only because it can't be San Jose and Aneheim. And I'd like to see San Jose and Minnesota because those two teams hate each other. But we'll see...

i really don't care who we play in the first round, as long as we beat them. the only reason i can think of to get so worked up about nashville is that they play "i like it, i love it" by tim mcgraw every time one of their players score and it's obnoxious. i don't like it, and i especially don't love it.

other than that, bring 'em on!

The Blues aren't going to make the playoffs even if they beat us by 10 goals each game.

As for the 8th seed, yesterday I commented on how weird it would be if the Oilers soared into that spot, just like they did 2 years ago. It'd be a good way to pay them back, even if it means staying up till 2 in the morning and listening to those idiot CBC homers.

Ideally, I wouldn't mind playing either the divealanche or the Preds, since we'd be them in 4 or 5 games.

Nashville is nothing to us. Us playing like crap is the only reason why they have beat us this year. With the way Dats, Z, Franzen, Kopetsky, Filppula, and most of our D have been playing we will be roaring like a lion all the way through the playoffs. It also seems like we will be getting key personel back into the lineup. I can't wait to have Cleary's passion for the game back on the ice. His energy is just crazy when he is firing on all thrusters. The enigma that McCarty is..is going to be interesting. I hope he going to bring the jump the 4th line like I think he is...though he hasn't paid his dues through the year (like others have). It wil be interesting to see what Babcock does with him. McCarty has the potential to be a decent scoring forward, and an enforcer. Having him on a different line than Downey is going to offer huge painful checking, and enforcing. Though, I have a feeling that it is probably going to be either Downey or McCarty. This playoff run is going to be an awesome experience. This is such a well rounded team. I'm giddy just thinking about it. I say bring on the Preds, and we'll whoop them something feirce! They will be wishing they moved their franchise to Canada!

I'm with you except on the McCarty thing. He hasn't played a single NHL game in over a year. I understand nostalgia and all but it should have no place in the NHL. McCarty was a great role player. We already have an enforcer in Downey and we really can't afford to carry 2. I'd give the nod to Downey because he has the NHL experience. What Mac did 4 years ago has no bearing on what he can do today.

That's the beauty of the playoffs- we don't have to worry about roster size :D

Were rosters limited to 23 players, however, I too would give the nod to Downey. Downey's been an important member of this team all year and deserves the same credit as the rest of the boys for the team's sucess.

I never wish to play a certain team, but I would prefer the Red Wings play Nashville in the first round, as opposed to any of the Northwest Division teams.

I just want the Red Wings most of all to get healthy, and the playoff opponent shouldn't even matter when they do.

I hope they play the closet team to Detroit. Right now, I want them to play the Hawks. I doubt they can jump up to the 8th spot. The preds are also a longshot and the Jackets ... well that isn't going to happen. The closest logical team may be the Avs. after that Nucks, Flames, Stars.

Too many variable and unlikelies but I do agree, rest the stars. It is already starting to happen. Kronner had more minutes than nick. Franzen had 18, Chelios was at 17. We will see players being sat with minor injuries of unspecified origin. Just wrap up the President's Trophy along the way. 9 up on Sharks, wings have 6 to go and the Sharks 7.
