isn't everybody glad we didn't get him...

It wasn't possible. Don't even try to blame Holland. Forsberg rejected us, not v/v. He didn't need the money; he chose where he wanted.

The best part was how everyone went from "maybe he'd help us" to "f*** him, we don't need him." when everyone learned he didn't want to play for his rival team and show some loyalty to the Avalanche franchise.

i'm not saying it was holland. forsberg overtly stated he didn't want to come here. i know his coming here wasn't a possibility, i'm only remarking on the general uproar of lgw posters. if he was interested, i'd have been glad to have him.

+6 too. Not too shabby.

Not too shabby indeed. But it's hard to amass points when you're not on the ice. It's only a matter of time(likely a short period of time)before he gets injured in some way. He has amazing abilities but his body is as frail as they come. I will honestly be shocked if he plays their entire 1st round.

I for one am glad Forsberg did not come to Detroit. I would have been ashamed to have him wear the Winged Wheel. I was getting sick of watching him last night. He whines more than any player when he gets a penalty i.e. he committed a blatant interference call and would not shut up. He was pinned against the boards and flopped down and drew a penalty. I'll be cheering the day he finally leaves the NHL for good and rids us of watching his candy ass play.

Forsberg has always been a world-class player, but it's good he is not in Detroit. It would be really odd to see him in a Red Wings uniform after all those battles.

that lil diver is ruining my fantasy hockey team right now, but Z+Pav will lead me back

i look forward to meeting floppa and his team in the playoffs

As it is, if the Wings make it past the first round I'd be willing to bet they'll meet up with Colorado given that the standings don't change drastically.

Here's my 2 cents based on the current standings:

Round 1

(1) Detroit beats (8) Nashville/Vancouver

(2) San Jose beats (7) Calgary

(6) Colorado beats (3) Minnesota

(4) Anaheim beats (5) Dallas

I absolutely see Colorado beating Minnesota in the playoffs given that matchup takes place. Also, there's a potential upset in the making given how well Dallas plays against Anaheim--probably wouldn't happen but I would think the Ducks wouldn't be too crazy about Dallas regardless of their current play.

Round 2

(1) Detroit vs. (6) Colorado

(2) San Jose vs. (4) Anaheim

You heard it here first. :sly:

He'll get injured soon enough, so we don't have to worry about him being back. He could always put up points when healthy, no one ever doubted that.

This team would be fortunate to remain in the 6 seed, since the Wild are pretty much everyone's ***** to the point where everyone wants to play them. Of course, then they'd have to face the Wings in the 2nd round, and I don't see them winning a game against us.

I still think he's a piece of crap for announcing his retirement, and then coming back a week later, right up there with Selanne and Niedermayer, except those guys "supposedly" had several months to change their mind, and not a week.

Avs-Detroit was much more intense rivalry than Detroit-Chicago.

The Cheli-Detroit rivalry was much greater than the Forsberg-Detroit rivalry.

Edit: Don't take this the wrong way but seeing as that your 19 years old, you probably weren't old enough to fully appreciate the rivalry the Wings had with the Blackhawks before the Wings/Avalanche rivalry. Obviously the Wings/Avalanche rivalry was heated but the Wings/Blackhawks rivalry certainly wasn't room-temperature either.

Anytime you take less money to play somewhere else, its going to piss off the team that (could?) offer more money. Rafalski did it, right? No one is complaining. The only thing is that he took less money to go to a much better cup contender. Forsburg didn't.

You can respect the decision or not, but if he doesn't want to have a better chance to win the cup thats fine with me. I would rather have him there than in a Ducks uniform.

I'm not so sure he'll get injured and miss action. I heard one report on TV that he's been run more in the past month than ever in his career. He's holding up somewhat so far, so he might just surprise in the playoffs.

As much as Cheli was hated, it was Forsberg's hit to Larionov's head while he was down which led to the 97 Bloodbath. For this I would have to say I can understand how people might not want him in Detroit.

Trust me, that was not what led to the bloodbath. It may have been the starting point of that fight, but it was going to happen that night regardless. A big hit, jocking for position on a face-off, a goal-mouth scramble all would've done the same thing.

This isn't a discussion about what started the epic fight in '97, but Cheli was way more hated in Detroit than Forsberg ever was or will be.

If i had a time machine back to the early 90s and i told myself cheli would be a wing, id have to hit myself. There was a time the Hawks were a pretty good team, and, I had the luck to see some of those games in Chicago (since i live in Kalamazoo, I have the ability to go see the Wings in chitown in same amount of travel as it would take me to see them in detroit) and I remember all the Wings Sucks jerseys and the pregame hate fest, then the feeling id be mugged walking to my car wearing a wings jersey after we won. And while the Detroit Avs rivalry was good, it was short, the Avs lost most of their talent and just now are recovering. So id Agree with never forget mac.
