Zeke 5 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I know,I know, you never change a winning lineup.... ....but,I think we can improve on our performance with some tinkering for next game. Here are the changes I would make: 1) McCarty for Downey ...give us more energy and keep an eye on Tootoo 2)Hartigan for Abelkader...bigger,younger,faster.....still not sure why #44 is on this team 3) and the toughest one: Chelios for Lebda...I know he's the vet ,but he gave it away often and looked like a pylon at times out there (I'm not a big Lebda fan,but he can match the speed of the preds) Will Babs dare make changes? Would any of the Wings faithful?
wingnut22 81 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 3) and the toughest one: Chelios for Lebda...I know he's the vet ,but he gave it away often and looked like a pylon at times out there (I'm not a big Lebda fan,but he can match the speed of the preds) as much as I would love to see Lebda in the game, I was at the game last night and Chelios had a few shifts where he was just a beast. Opie 308 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 The only one that I would care about is the last one, in the post season you cannot have enough experience on the blue line, and most importantly: On Saturday he would break the record for most playoff games. The only foreseeable trouble with Nashville will lie with Kronwall, I can see the preds wanting to show him that they will not tolerate it, other than that, I don't see a big problem. And as I said before I think Z could take Tootoo in a fair clean fight (never going to happen with Tootoo). Mac or Drake should be able to handle him without the need for Downey, however if Babs thought there was a need for Downey I would not be upset in the least. redwings56 1 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I don't think Downey is needed. Hardly ever fighting in the playoffs anyway. The Wings held their own. I would like to see Abdeldakar, but 44 is not playing bad, he is doing exactly what is expected = he deserves to be in the lineup. On a side not Homer played well last night. Opie 308 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I think not hearing Hartigans name is like not hearing the officials name mentioned, it means they are doing exactly what they are suppossed to, I wouldn't mind hearing his name associated with scoring but I highly doubt that is what babs is looking for from him. But I am neither here nor there on who plays on that line, I have faith babs will do the right thing. Interesting side note here: some one in this or another thread that the line changes were Bowman esque, I think that is what made the wings so successful this past playoff as opposed to the previous ones. Neither Lewis nor Babs seemed like they felt they could move the lines around without either pissing players off or screwing up chemistry. There is a reason Bowman has all of those rings, and it is not because he has so many fingers!!
Death2duder 0 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I would rather keep McCarty... Although Downey gets into fights, I don't think I've ever seen him actually win one. I'm more scared of my 5 year old daughter than I would be of Downey. The sole purpose of McCarty and Downey is to keep the opposition from bullying around our stars. McCarty did a good job of that last game. Although he didn't get in a fight, he was the Preds face any time they started to get chippy. Keep Chelios... I'm all for experience on the blue line in the playoffs. Until Nashville starts skating circles around him he should stay in the line-up. I think Hartigan is doing fine but it wouldn't hurt the Wings to get Abdelkader some playoff time and see what he can do.
Third Man In 2,091 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 Sorry, Zeke, but I disagree with all three. No way do you take out Cheli for Lebs--though Lebs needs to be ready because he's gonna play these playoffs. Mac's done alright so far, was standing up to Tootoo, and brings more offensively and defensively than Downey as long as he doesn't start looking slow. I like Abdelkader, but no way do you throw a kid with a couple games of NHL experience into the playoffs unless you really have to. Opie's right: if Hartigan isn't drawing attention he's doing his job perfectly in place of Malts.

The rest of the line up I would leave the same.
KDDRWINGS1 9 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 (edited) I would save Downey for the third and fourth games in Nashville but unfortunately when Maltby comes back either Hartigan or Mac will be out anyway so Downey and Abdelkader move even futher down the list unless someone else gets hurt or screws up big time. Did anybody listen to the video recap on TSN where the announcer said Lebda took a shot during the game. I don't like Lebda at all but I still found it funny. He must of got him confused with Stuart (#22 and #23). Everyone's entitled to an opinin but taking out Cheli for Lebda on the third pairing would be stupid. Cheli and Lilja are p.k.er's and purely a defensive unit if anybody thinks Lebda plays better D than Chelios then lets check back in twenty years and see if anybody remembers Lebdas name. The guy is a jerk and sucks I hope they trade him in the off season or let him become a ufa when the time comes. Edited April 11, 2008 by KDDRWINGS1
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I would leave McCarty for now as the more he plays, the more potential he has to be "Downey-Plus" as his overall game is better. Other than that you've got guys with similar roles, though you can't say enough about what Downey's meant to this team. He's a great guy to have around to say the least. No way you take out Chelios. I wouldn't be surprised to see Abelhoweveryouspellit in at some point.

irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 lebda will never have as much skill and presence as cheli brings to this team right now....and mccarty is way better than downey but i agree hartigan should be out and abds or downey should be in
Zeke 5 Report post Posted April 11, 2008 I hope you're not serious. He's not a great fighter but he certainly won more than he lost this year and for his career. Downey has stood up for this team all season long, and I think he deserved a few minutes in this game as appreciation by Babcock. McCarty is a walk up at the end of the season and is rewarded ? Because Downey hasn't lost a fight this season. All his fights have been wins or draws. As for McCarty, we all love him, but he's not a great enforcer at this point in his career.
