What is better?

Alright, this question doesn't really have a right answer because it is totally based on opinion, but I wanted to get some of your opinions. I am undecided.

Which do you think is better?

1). Sweep a series and let our boys get some rest?

or

2). Take the series out to 5 maybe 6 games and keep a stride going? (6 might be pushing it, but just for the sake of argument).

I think it's a tough call, because on one hand we get a sweep and get to take a much needed break. On the other hand if it goes out a little bit then they get to go into the next series already in full stride. Of course there are arguments against both sides as well.

On one hand they sweep and get rest but then they have to get back up to speed in the next series. Kind of like drag racing in spurts against another driver who is just going all out.

On the other hand they stay in a little longer and get to keep the stride, but risk injury and fatigue.

I don't know, obviously seeing a sweep is always nice, but is it what is best for a playoff run?

Just food for discussion.

I feel that we really need a sweep. Fewer games will allow our players to take fewer hits, which tend to take their toll the longer you survive in the playoffs. The Wings will be ready regardless if they sweep or win it in 6 or 7, so I just don't see the benefit in the series going 5 or 6 games.

I'd rather have a sweep if possible and give the guys 1-2 days of rest then return

to regular drill. with Wings it's OK to get some rest - they have experience to not

get too rusty and have problems with waking up. but they need to keep their healt

at maximum if they were supposed to meet tougher teams down the road

I've always seen the playoffs as a war of attrition. The fewer shifts taken, shots blocked, hits into the boards absorbed, the better. More time to nurse any injuries. Plus they are professionals, I wouldn't imagine they'd lose too much with a week off with all the leadership in those locker rooms.

And a sweep would just be sweet!

*edit for bad spelling mistake, haha*

I think the best case scenario is to sweep and get the rest at this point. It's looking like we won't have to worry about Anaheim and maybe not even San Jose. I'd like to be physically rested if we end up playing Calgary or any other team that's a bit more in "scrap" mode. We've got the skill to beat any team in our conference and I think we can go head to head with the skilled teams of Anaheim or San Jose any way it shakes down and come out ahead barring serious injury or goaltending issues.

The scrappier teams worry me a bit more if we're worn out or nursing injuries. Sweep it up and give Stuart, Holmstrom, etc. more days to focus on conditioning as opposed to worrying about getting beat up and injured. And I don't care what anyone says about Dom needing more games to keep his stride, I feel like he's more held together with band-aids this year than ever so more rest I think may hurt him a bit initially but help him moving on. Has he had a 2-month stretch this year without an injury? I don't think so, so again, sweep and rest!

All I care about is that the Wings win every game they can. If they can do it in 4, great. But the last thing I want is to see them sit back and let Nashville creep back into the series. The last thing they need is Nashville getting any momentum.

Quick series is best I think. Especially if our Round 2 opponent has a 6 or 7 game series. Sure, the other team might have the edge in the 2nd Round to begin with, but they will be easier to wear down. The Wings have shown they can seemingly turn on their talent at will. So I think maybe we lose Game 1 of Round 2 (assuming we beat Nashville, that is, and I'm not getting ahead of myself) but they would be in better shape later in Round 2.

That sounds reasonable to me, but I think it would have to be more fast paced than regular drill. They would have to do drills that would keep them in playoff conditioning I think. No bag skates or anything, and obviously no creaming each other against the boards, but maybe some high tempo scrimmages or something.

Solid point.

A sweep is always desired but a loss in the way we lost tonight can be helpful. You could see the game change right both sets of goals. It looked like a regular season game right before the goals. As long as nobody gets hurt things should work out.

That is actually a very good question. With all the threads tonight I was dreading what the content would be. I think it really depends on the team.

A sweep builds confidence and assurance.

A 5-6er keeps the momentum going but only if they are playing well. If a team slides through on some bounces and a bad call it could be problems.

A lose like tonight can be two things, a sign of what your team is offering or a nice wake up call.

I am going to go with a 5-6 because that is where we are heading. ;)

Plus I will be at game five being anything but classy...
