I think we can safely assume that Hasek is done. The local pundits and most fans are dancing on his grave in Detroit.

Drew Sharp

Wojo

Both writers assume that the Wings will go with Ozzie from now on out, and I agree that is what they are going to do, too. Not that it's necessarily the right thing or the wrong thing... but don't expect to see Dom back on the ice for the Wings again.

I am sure Dom knows this, too. But he will be ready if needed, I am sure.

Maybe its just me but Drew Sharp really seemed to be blasting Ozzie in his article and made it seem that without Hasek the Wings have nothing.

What crawled up his ass?

Isn't it funny? I read Sharp as being the typical pundit who thinks Hasek is nuts and that this will send him off to a padded room somewhere. There's really no evidence for that, but people seem to think that a lot.

Babcock made a move to win a series, believing Osgood represents the better chance of beating the gritty but undermanned Predators. But he's deluding himself if he believes benching Hasek can restore his psyche and performance to the high level the Wings need to achieve the only goal that matters in this organization -- winning the Stanley Cup.

He probably has lost Hasek for good with this decision.

Yep, Dom's a prima donna and nut case. Oh, wait, no he isn't... <_<

the whole article is a celebration of Hasek's departure. Where does he blast Ozzie?? He's a jerk, if so. I'll go re-read it, again.

This sentence alone has multiple meanings. If the Wings go on to win this series, I would assume Babs will ride Oz as far as they go in the playoffs, but he almost insinuates that Hasek will absolutely be needed again in this years run. Almost like a foregone conclusion that Oz will falter.

Or, how about this gem:

But goalies are comparable to quarterbacks -- if you say that you have two, you really don't have any.

that's lovely, Mac. The quote, I mean.

I can't honestly see Babs backing down and putting Dom back in, unless someone runs Ozzie and injures him. God forbid, that happens... Otherwise, I am willing to bet that we've seen Hasek's last game as a Red Wing. Ozzie's Team now.

edit: clarity

Yeah they have lost Dom, sure because he doesn't have the insight to know that he is struggling he never has, oh wait nevermind this is the same guy who gave the wings back half of his salary a couple of years ago because HE thought he was doing very badly and retired.

I love the misconception that Dom is a prima dona and needs to be the starter or he is a locker room cancer.

yep. They are Ozzie's Team now.

Ah, but they've always been Ozzies team since he re-signed, along with Dom's. I may be stupid, but i like to believe that there is still some guys who love the game and love their team (especialy on the Red Wings) that play for more than money. They'll do whatever it takes to keep winning all year round and most of all in the playoffs. Not saying you loo, but alot of people forget that people like sharp and the likes job is to sell papers. For instance what would sell more papers, "britney staying home with her kids and getting well, taking a break from the hollywood scene" or "britney stumbles out of bar with skirt overhead and no drawers on"? I'll bet all these people (some members on here aswell) have probably had these stories written, just waiting to be able to claim to be the first with this great knowledge, DOMS DONE!!! blah blah blah...

That's what i think sets hockey apart from other sports, and the Wings apart from other teams. These guys DOM INCLUDED will do whatever it takes to win. I'm sure dom has no problem admitting, "hey, for one reason or another, this just ain't my series. Ozzie lets go get this win!" And IF (hope they do) they move on, and Ozzie drops a few I'm sure he'd say the same thing right back to Dom. People are stupid sometimes, but if anyone thinks Dom did anything other than come back for the love of the game, there just fishing for something to ***** about the guy. Last time i checked Doms still on the roster, still got a stall, still wears the greatest jersey in all of sports, and is still a leader on this team. I'd be more worried about Dom if he wasn't down right now, and didn't care. It speaks alot about his character that always seems to be called into question. I'll tell you right now, i bet no one is pulling more for Ozzie and the whole team right now as Dom. Just like Ozzie was when he was on the bench.

You're correct about all of this, of course.

And I will be the last one to give up on Dom.

I was just following the party line, woohoo! Ozzie's team now, not Hasek's. And I was being slightly sarcastic toward those who don't have a clue about what you're saying here. I appreciate your sentiments, and echo them all.

Bravo!

Couldn't agree more....and you can tell he's supporting Oz 100%. Is he disappointed with how things have worked out: Of Course. Is he being a man about it and supporting his team: Absolutely! I salute Dom and the way he's handling it, unlike a certain goalie that lost the SCF's last year, only to get benched, whined at every opportunity he got and became a locker room cancer.

Sidenote: I certainly understand its Sharp's job to sell papers first and foremost, but I also have the right to disagree with what he's saying....everyone does.

Even if Ozzie started the first four games, the series still would be tied 2-2. Hasek played well, but it's time to start Osgood.

The rest of the way, you have to think more of our shots will go in, and less of there's will. Nashville has had a little luck on their side to win both games at home.

I think we'll see a repeat of 2004, and we'll take Game 5 and 6.

Edit: I hope so, or else it's on to the Tigers and Pistons.

Oh, for sure. i disagree with media all the time and really when it comes to hockey most are so far detached it's really hard to even listen to, or believe a word spoken or printed. But sharp, I mean come on, the guy's nickname is "evil" drew sharp, or "boo-dini". That's his bag, ruffle feathers, be negitive, which is the easy route if you ask me. Like 97.1, those guys are funny, and it's entertainment i understand, and i don't doubt there collage football or basketball knowledge and such, but they clearly talk out thier ass when it comes to hockey. No clue. Honestly caputo is the only one that seems as though he actually follows the Detroit sports scene, but this has already been a thread-jack enough. I guess i'm saying Detroit sports media seems more tabloid than newspaper, as does this board sometimes, but what can you do? GO WINGS!!!

If Dom doesn't play anymore and we keep going with Osgood and we still manage to win the Cup, I think it'll still be a great way for Hasek to go out. It might not be the best way, but you can't complain. He's there. He's still a part of it and he still helped get there any way you shake it. Everyone wants to start and it's always going to be a little bittersweet to be the backup hoisting the Cup, but you're going to have to hand it to him for getting this far if it should come to that. He'll deserve one hell of an applause if only for everything he has done in his career. I've said all along that I'm hardly the biggest Hasek fan and I don't think he should be starting and I think this is the right move, but you owe a guy like Hasek who's done as much as he has a long and profound ovation no matter how this thing ends. Whoever starts, I really hope they find a way to get the Cup in his hands before he officially says goodbye.

As big a fan of Dom's as any, this is the right move and I am glad to see Babcock make it. I see this as akin to taking your goalie out of a blowout in a single game, you see he hasn't got it, so you save him the embarrassment. I would've dreaded Dominik playing in Game 5 just for the kind of criticism he would have to face given the likely outcome...he's not making saves, doesn't mean he can't or never will again, but this is a fine move. That said, this is almost certainly his finale...who knows, Osgood plays poorly in Game 5, maybe Dom is back for Game 6. I mean, what is there to lose? That being said, I would love to see Osgood win the rest of the games to the Cup. And I genuinely feel more confident with Chris starting these games and Wings in 6 is still quite possible. That's what it took to knock off CGY last year, people seem so quick to forget the same thing happened, Wings win first two at home, Flames win next two to tie. Anyway.
