redwings56 1 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 I am the first to say it - he has done his job. It'd be nice if he would throw his body around, but he never was and never will be that player. Good job so far Sammy (no more powerplay time though)
DYags 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 I'd have to agree. I never thought I'd see the day were I was more disappointed and frustrated with Filppula than I am with Sammy Heres to him putting in a goal or two in the coming games :beerbuddy:
Superman54 91 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 What I do not understand is why everyone expects him to be soo good. Im never really dissapointed with Sammys play, mainly due to the fact that I have never really expected much out of him. Though for some reason, everyone wants the 1.4 million dollar player to be some superstar. Everytime I watch the wings, I always notice Sammy out there. Probably cause he shots alot, but at least he makes himself known.

Right on, he screws up a lot, but I noticed he has had more speed through the neutral zone and is passing it off a lot more instead of shooting. He can't be expected to put up points, but when Babs puts him in those situations (2nd line, powerplay) he has to play better, which he has lately. Lets not forget guys that Filppula is in his early 20's and has a couple years of experience in the NHL. Andrei Mezaros was amazing in his first year with the Senators, he is on his way out because they rushed him and had him playing with Redden. Let's not get down on Fil yet. He is useful. 58Miles2Joe 12 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 (edited) I'll give him "less bad." That's currently the limit of my capitulation. Although, as I recall, he tends to improve in the playoffs (?) (senility) Samuelsson's ripping pucks at the net (Kulfan says he's put 17 on Ellis thus far), but his focus is at the other end of the ice: "It's not a lack of offense in my mind. We're letting too many (goals) in right now. If we play good defense we win the game." He's going to absolutely ruin Ellis' jersey, those black marks will never come out. (that doesn't include misses and blocked shots). And he's a -1 So let's not get carried away and call him competent. Yet. Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 (edited) hahahah you have to hate someone? What an awesome mentality. I get what they're saying. We have a DEFCON system here of hate. It ranks the players on how much the fans hate them at any given moment. Here is our current State of Hate. 1. Hasek 2. Flip 3. Sammy 4. Lilja 5. Lebda Edited April 18, 2008 by Wings_Dynasty

Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 A sammy thread... yeah i would say this sums up sammy and Flip PERFECTLY HA! Yep, that sums up the series for them. They need to both score tonight to get out of my "WTF are they doing?" book.
Dano33 41 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 I can honestly say that i have not noticed improvement in his play. As many have said, and many more will say, his shots are worthless and when he has an oppotunity he messes it up. He is not the kind of player that needs to carry the puck around people because most of the time he loses it or makes a bad decision. What we need him to do is dump and chase and do his best to become open, because when hes open he can shoot, but when theres pressure he definately feels it. redwing_sparty 0 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 wow, i must say i have never hated flip. i get a little frustrated when he's not playing up to his ability but never hated the guy. Sammy on the other hand just alwasy ticks me off. he makes very bad decsisions. I dont expect him to be a top scorer by anymeans. what i would like are consistent passes, not throwing the puck away with high risk passes, actually being aware of the play, and, if he must stay on the pp, learn how to work the freakin point! i just find him to be on the negative end of lots of plays. Lilja also makes a lot of bad passes and turnovers. either way GO WINGS!!!

I don't get so frustrated with him when he's on the third line...it's when he's seeing oodles of ice time on the 2nd line and/or the PP that pisses me off. He's not a 2nd line player - never will be, and he's absolutely horrible on the PP point.
daniel1 32 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 Yes Sammy is performing "wonderfully", lol. So far he's at 100%. He's taken 17 shots and hit the center of the goalie's chest 17 times! He's perfect shooter who never misses his target, which someone must have told him is the colorful badge adorning the goalie's pectoral area. He is capable of creating at times though as he can stick handle with the best of them right up until he makes one too many moves and loses it. He's gotta either dish it off to an OPEN teammate or just dump the damn thing in the corner. I would love for him to score 2 tonight and make me eat this post... I would literally print it off, salt it up, and swallow it down. C'mon Sammy, I know you read these threads!!
Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 only reason why sammy pisses me off is cause he is on PP and 2nd line. If babs demoted him, it wouldnt be that big a deal to me
lfd250 1 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 What games are you watching????? No goals. No hitting. Can say same things for others, but they played hard this season. I'll give you he's second in shots, however they aren't going in. 9th in goals for the team. For a guy (IMO) that was brought in for secondary scoring, he is a failure. 55fan 5,133 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 Sammy did look better during the playoffs last year. That's as far back as my memory goes (old age). All of our guys need to get it together and play like they have at various points this season. Sammy, if you come through for me, I'll be cheering loudly, just like I did last year. I think I set off the neighbour's dog when he scored. Go Sammy! Go Wings!
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted April 18, 2008 I thought he looked really good in the last couple games.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 19, 2008 I can't believe I'm saying this, but he actually looked good tonight and drove the net several times instead of taking meaningless shots. In fact, some of his goofy moves actually worked for a change, even the backhanded move that he's become infamous for.
