Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Well, I'm surprised a thread like this hasn't been made yet, so as tradition goes, welcome Preds fans to LGW. You put up a good fight and didn't play dirty (well, possibly excepting Tootoo), so make yourself at home here for the rest of the playoffs and feel free to root for the team that won the spot over yours. Or root against us, but the former is undoubtedly a safer bet Again, welcome.
Xitium 272 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Considering the Wings are the "Evil Empire", its a safer bet that they are all rooting for the Wings opponents.
vladdy16 2,154 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 While all fans are welcome at any time, I don't think you realize just how much Preds Nation hates us. Not a snowflake's chance in hell they root for the Wings from here on out.
Datsyerberger 279 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Everyone hates us (and I'm aware how much the Preds fans do, I always lurk the opposition's boards XD) That doesn't mean we can't welcome them anyhow, whether they choose to accept it or not. After all, we're original 6... we have to stay classy

2probert4 8 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 And yet they all want to base their team around the Red Wings model. Exactly, from Day 1 Leopold pointed towards Ottawa and Detroit as 2 teams that they wanted to use to model their own franchise, except they didnt want to be a big spender like Detroit, and have a large amount of free agency. I'm still not convinced that they have a real fanbase, since it's just a bunch of dumb hicks who cheer when there's an icing and make foolish chants that no one can understand. I'm happy we advanced, but I'm even more happy we made those idiots go home disappointed yesterday.

I don't know about that. The Panthers made the finals in 1996 and hockey hasn't exactly survived there. It's a noble gesture by the league, but the bottom line is that most of these southern teams will only have a fanbase if they're in the finals, and even then hockey will be a bottom tier sport compared to the major American-invented sports. Personally, I don't think they should have a team, because although they were loud in the playoffs, their attendance was dismal last year. They're going to have to show more consistency from year to year to get legitimacy from me.

I'm happy we advanced, but I'm even more happy we made those idiots go home disappointed yesterday. The last time I checked, I'm not an old lady, I don't wave pom-poms, and I'm most certainly not a hick. I'm a hockey fan first, a Wings fan second, and a Preds fan third. I am a partial season ticket holder in Nashville, not because I love the Preds to death, but because I love the game! Yes, there are several idiots at the games, but they are a minority, believe it or not. Most people are there for the same reasons I am. I know this post won't make any difference, but please try to remember that there are people on this site that are from Tennessee, and I for one don't appreciate the generalization. That being said, I'm glad that that little turd Too-too is on the golf course today! Every time I go to a game, I have some asshat with one of those whistles sitting right behind me! I hope he choked on it yesterday!!!

ChelisChick 174 Report post Posted April 21, 2008 Make it $50,000. You have no idea how painful it is to have to listen to that right. in. your. ear. Whoever came up with the idea should be boiled in oil. After being skinned alive.

After being skinned alive. You can really hear the whistle on tv, but you can usually drown it out. Although, I can imagine having to sit next to them... ugh. The main reason I don't the want the Wings to end up playing Calgary is a reason similar to this. Everytime I hear that stupid airhorn on tv it makes me want to put an ice-pick in my ear. I'm all in favor of the push to non-traditional markets and even I think the Panthers ought to move somewhere else. Given time I think hockey will catch on great - there just needs to be a generation of kids that grows up with the sport. Nashville too. Miami, probably not so much. I'd like to see the Houston Panthers.
