Melrose - coming around?

Not to sound like a "homer" but anyone at this point who isn't picking the Wings to win the West, just flat out doesn't like us or is in denial.

Things seem to be falling in place for us (Anaheim is gone, and SJ is two loses away from joining them) and so far we've stayed healthy.

We're still only half way from the Finals, and anything can happen, but we seem to be getting better as the playoffs go on.

Same with Dallas...

Dallas is scary. Beating Anaheim and going up 2-0 on San Jose. There top 3 centermen - Rebeiro, Richards, Modano...pretty impressive.

Saying that, if u asked me who i'd rather play in the conference finals before the playoffs started Anaheim, San Jose, or Dallas, i would have said Dalls - as i'm sure most people would have. We have their number also.

Good point. I'm a little uncomfortable with looking ahead. I remember when we took the first two in Colorado in '99, and everyone (Wings fans and analysts) were ready to hand us a third consecutive cup. Then we got hammered in four straight. You never know. Let's hope we win on Tuesday; everything else will sort itself out. If the analysts are really wrong, we'll show 'em. If we blow it, then I guess they were right.

A team that beat Anaheim (which we couldnt do), and a team that could possibly beat San Jose isnt scary, ok...

I'm not saying we cant beat them cuz i think we would but to say there not scary is outrageous @_@

Okay well, I've been saying for a few months now that San Jose is not a great team and will achieve nothing again in the playoffs despite what the media says. They also have played awful hockey against Dallas so far.

Anaheim was also very crap against Dallas. Anaheim is also nowhere near as good as they were last year so your comparison to us not beating them is useless.

We will dominate Dallas if we play them.

Yea, but its san jose, remember last year? they outplayed us for 5 of the 6 games for about 40 mins of each of those games, who went on to the 3rd round and who went to play golf?

Exactly.

Too many people in here are getting way too ahead of themselves and counting their chickens before they hatch.

The Wings have had more than 1 instance of (1) blowing 2-0 leads to lose a series in 6 games (Colorado, LA 2001), (2) doing the exact opposite (Vancouver 2002), and (3) blowing 2-0 leads to make the series tied after 4 games (Nashville 2004 and 2008, Calgary 2007) to where people thought the series was over, wanted a new captain, wanted to trade away half our team, and plenty of other overreactions.

While both the Wings and the Stars are on good ground right now, a series doesn't end until a team wins 4 games. Neither series is remotely close to being done with yet, I don't care that the Stars are playing their next 2 games at home or that the Wings chased Theodore or the Avs have some injuries. Anything can happen.

And if you beat the Stanley Cup champs and the 2nd best team in the conference (potentially) en route to the conference finals, I think that easily qualifies as a dangerous team.

I fully second that.

Let's take everything on a step-by-step basis. Win two more games against Colorado. Then, start thinking about the WCF.

He does actually say some nice things tho.

Until he starts manloving Forsberg, et al.

1/2 way thru vid starts Avs/Wings.

Melrose is an ass monkey. He never has anything nice to say about the Wings. He's been a hater from way back. The only time he comes around is when he knows the outcome is inevitable. I'm glad ESPN no longer covers the NHL like it used to. I don't have to hear his rhetoric anymore.......................

I completely agree. How could someone who played for the Wings be such a Wing-hater. He never picks us to win even a series despite winning the presidents trophy every year. More ridiculous, perhaps, is the fact that he consistently touts that head-hunter cheap shot artist Pronger as the best defenseman in the league despite the fact that Lidstrom is far more skilled and talented (as proven by his soon-to-be 6 norris trophies compared to Pronger's one). I could not hate anyone more than Melrose. What a ******.

I read that Melrose is actually a potential replacement for Babcock next year.

www.notachanceinhell.com

Yeah, right. <_<

I was thinking that he'd get picked up by a cellar dweller. We could all get a laugh as his team gets scored on...again and again...

s***, I'd much rather have him coaching some s*** hockey team like the Kings than have to listen to his dumb-ass analysis on ESPN. I really wish that ESPN would take back hockey and make it in to a more popular sport here in the States (and yes, ESPN does kind of have that ability) but first thing that would need to be done is to get rid of Melrose. I like the guy he does the segment with, but god is Melrose stupid.
