Saran 1 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 I personally have not been impressed with chelios's performance lately. He has not been terrible but he also has not been good. For example, today he practically just stood there and forsberg easily passed him with little effort resulting in a detroit penalty. I think we should try out lilja. I know "if its not broke dont fix it" but i think this swap would benefit the team. Thoughts?
marcaractac 3,963 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 I agree with Cheli not being that great lately, and Lilja probbaly wouldn't be much better. With a 3-0 series lead, why not give Ericsson a go? The series is all but over, and he can't be any worse than Lilja has been with turnovers and Chelios with people blowing by him and a stubborn too many men penalty. It would also be a great opportunity to give the kid some playoff experience, which can really be a great thing if we run into injuries in the latter rounds **KNOCK ON WOOD!!!!**
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 Chelios has been less than impressive I think, but up 3-0 and winning your last 5 playoff games, why mess with the lineup? Lebda, for the most part, has done his duty has a 3rd line d-man I think since going in for Lebda and stays as the 6th d-man for now. It's not like Chelios has been treading rear out there, but he's made some pretty bad passes at times. That being said, I still think overall even at his "old" age now he's better than Lilja, but that is just 1 imbecile's opinion.
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 Chelios has not played well in this series. But he hasn't had to either. He was a beast on the PK later in the game (probably because he was so mad about the "too many men" penalty) That being said, he looks a bit tired. I say, play him on Thursday and close out the series. Then hope Montreal-Philly go 6 or 7. Chelios will get a rest ad be ready for round 3. This brings up an interesting point though. What happens with Chelios if Detroit advance to the SCFs? How tired will he be then?

swedishseven 9 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 regardless of his shaky play that you might be talking about, you cant deny that his playoff experince should far outweigh any hiccups in his performance...he brings so much veteran poise and puck moving ability, not to mention presence and motivation on the bench and a great eye for the play.In this playoff i see him as so much more to this team than just a defenseman. Lilja was taken out of the lineup for a reason: namely, he's careless and, despite legions of the same in the past, continues to be out of position at the worst possible times. He's a liability. Cicada 4 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 i'd take Chelios in a frigging Zimmerframe over Lilja
CdnWingsFanEh 2 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 Gotta go with Cheli. Honestly, I think he looks tired out there, and could use a rest, but a tired Cheli, is better than a well-rested Lilja, IMHO. Now, if the question were b/w Lilja and Lebda, until last night's games, I would have said flip a coin. Last night, Lebda looked much better than he has. Hopefully Cheli will get a rest b/w series (if we can sweep) and the other games go on longer... :octo:
Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 I would give a chance to Meech. He played very well for us last year in the playoffs. Lilja or Chelios..does not matter, Cheli is not the warrior from the last year and Lilja sucks anyways Chelios - Meech would be my choice for 3rd D pair. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 The guy that looked pathetic last night was Stuart. He got outmuscled for pucks, and looked lost in his own zone at times. If anyone should be replaced it's him and not Chelli. I don't know what you guys expect from Chelios when you say that he's been less than stellar. He doesn't play many minutes, and you know he isn't going to score, so I'm confused as to what people think he should be doing differently?
Zion 93 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 Chelios. While I wouldn't kill someone giving him a night off and inserting Meech or even Ericsson in the line-up, I think Chelly and Lebda have solidified their current pairing for now. Sorry, Pain Train.
Bad Vlad Forever 1 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 Cheli has been making some bad passes lately. I remember him too well from his Blackhawks tenure to ever really accept him as a Wing though. Especially wearing Probies number.
redwingfan19 293 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 I'd rather Quincey than Chelios since the start of the season Amen brother. I love cheli and he's been great for us but it's time for him to either retire or go to a different team. Him staying around is blocking our YOUNG NHL ready d men and hindering development and experience factor. oh and to the OP neither, I'd rather give Meech a shot he looked great in his limited time this year
hak 21 Report post Posted April 30, 2008 I dunno. I want the same Lilja we had last years playoffs.. Don't you guys think it's possible to get him back? I can't really remember but did it take a couple of playoff games last year before he stepped up? If you try to forget certain turnovers he really stepped it up in the postseason last year I want the pain train!!
