Wings Seat Question

Okay Ladies and gentlemen. I have decided that I am going to begin saving my money for a trip to Detroit next season for a Red Wings game. I've been a fan far to long to have not made the trip for at least one game. The question I have is which section will give me the best tickets for my money, and how much do individual game tickets usually run.

Yay for you! We went to our first game this year and I'll never forget it. :)

I got tickets off of StubHub. We bought section 108, row 7. They were perfect seats, near the visitor penalty box, perfect view, loved them. I paid $125 each. No idea if it was a good deal or not, but the tickets were in the vicinity we were looking and I was willing to pay almost anything for them. :) We're pretty picky about where we sit, so I think a lot of it is personal choice...HTH.

From a view standpoint I actually prefer the upper bowl anywhere between the blue lines.... Of course the closer the better. Prices are as follows.

85- First 10 rows of the lower bowl.

76- Row 11 of the lower all the way to the first row of the upper bowl.

55- 2nd Row of the upper till about the 11th row

44- 11 row of the upper to almost the top.

22- The last couple rows of the upper and the corners.

I think from a view standpoint the 55 dollar seats between the bluelines are the best value and the best vantage point. Of course sitting on the glass is exciting too but only when the play is in that area.

Thanks guys. I'm really excited about the opportunity to go to a game. Can't wait to see Lidstrom in person. Since Captain retired he's my favorite player with the Wings. Well him and Cheli, but Cheli will probably retire if we get the Cup this year.

I'm doing the exact same thign next year myself. It's gonna cost me a fortune, but will be well worth it. ($1200 to get as far as Toronto alone, plus bus fares from there). I am going to be going to Toronto for 3 weeks starting April 1st, but will be making the trip to Detroit for 4 days at some point to catch th Wings first 2 home games of the playoffs. i figure with travel, Hotel in Detroit, tickets to game, etc, im looking at well over $2000. Spending money will certainly more than double that LOL!

By the way, any suggestions on a good hotel to stay that is near the Joe?

MGM Grand Casino is within walking distance although I think rooms are pretty pricey.

Oh and if you are like my husband who can't wait to get to Authentics, bring lots of spending money!

Also, in regards to seats, I have been anywhere from lower bowl to upperbowl. The only seats I would not recommend are the "obstructed view". Other than that, I really don't think there is a "bad" seat at the Joe - and even from the upper upper bowl, you can see quite well without binocs.

I'd have to say the same thing. I think the closer you are to center ice the better, but I never had a problem with any of the seats except obstructed.

Hope you make it out, I know you will enjoy it!

Everything is fine except Rows 24-27 in any of the corners... they aren't kidding when they say Obstructed views

Our Season tickets were $54 seats Upper Row 11 right behind Zamboni entrance... LOVED THEM!!!

Best seats I've gotten at the Joe were for the first round game 2 against Calgary last year. Got them the second the playoff tickets went on sale.

Section 107

Row 16

Seats were aisle seats right on the red line. Was just like viewing the game on tv with the center ice camera except you are actually at the game.

Most memorable seats for us was Game 5 of last years Calgary game. I'm sure you all remember that was the game that they threw in their relief goalie for about 18 seconds before the infamous torso slash!

Our seats were about 4-5 rows behind the Flames bench!!! Beer was flying down and security tackled some guy behind us! Memorable ~ Very!!!!

Can someone please describe the obstructed view seats for me? I'm just curious to see what is obstructed in them. I have pics from Game 1 against Calgary last year, and the advertisement boards blocked the top of the scoreboard. Are there worse obstructions than that?

Yes, I believe there are pillars at the top that obscure a portion of the ice. At least that is what I remember.

edit- Then again, it may be just the scoreboard.. lol anyone else know?

From what I can remember, the last three rows in the corners are not "stadium seating" so the three rows are flat and back to back. I think if you have people directly in front of you, you have to stand to see anything. At that point, you'd be better off with standing room only - then you're at the top of the upper bowl.

If you are up in the corners and have a choice of Rows 24-27... PICK 27!!!! you can then stand the entire game (which you won't be able to do with people behind you in the other rows... If you don't stand you don't see much down below... because they flatten out up there

In some cases the side scoreboards that hang down also get in the way...
