Why Isn't Stuart Playing on the Powerplay?

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if Stuart is hurt or something? I honestly don't know why he's not playing the point on the PP, since that's something he's done in the past elsewhere.

I've heard that there was an injury to his wrist in the past, but even so, there's no way his shot from the point is worse with a hurt wrist than Sammy's pitiful shot when Sammy is healthy. Is this just Babcock's decision?

Sammy is pitiful, but isn't Stuart a better choice objectively? It just makes no sense to me for him not to be on the point. Usually, when other teams use forwards on the point, at least those forwards are capable of making plays. Sammy's existence on the point is meaningless.

We're the most talented team in the league, and yet I'm convinced that no other NHL team would have Sammy on their point on the PP if he was on their team.

well why would even Al Macinnis be on the powerplay on a team that has the Shinguard Assassin?

his shots are devastatingly heavy.

with pin point accuracy,

and in the rare 1 out of 100 times he actually misses the net, the puck just smacks the glass and puts the goalie into a scared frozen state (much like a deer in headlights)

i dont understand why Mikael Samuelsson doesn't play 45 minutes a night...

You know the weirdest thing?

I've been a Wings fan since '97 and follow them religiously, yet I can't seem to remember how Sammy even ended up on this team.

It's like...one day he was just here and we can't seem to get rid of him. He seems to become more important the worse he plays. When Nick retires Sammy will be captain. Mark my words.

Because the best coach* in the NHL wants him there!!

* 50+ wins 3 years in a row, 2 consecutive trips to the WCF, one win from the SCF 2nd year in a row.

When your resume looks anything like that call Babcock and tell him what to do with his team.

The funny thing is that if Babs walked up to most of you on the streets and asked your opinion, when you were done s***ting your pants you would be so amazed you would forget to bring up your stellar points about how to play the game WITHIN HIS SYSTEM!!!!

Sure there are changes we would all like to see, but you all vastly underestimate what Sammy brings to the table, and you trash him just because he is the new Robert Lang, some of you probably don't even know why you are bashing him but it seems to be the in thing so you keep doing it.

When the Mule-Flip-Sammy line was together (less than a week ago) it was the best line on the team (as said by one Mike Babcock) and Sammy hasn't made any more or any less mistakes on the PP than he did a week ago, yet it wasn't a problem then! Do you know why it wasn't a problem, because the team was in the midst of 9 games in a row, so there was no opportunity for you to bash anyone with out looking like a complete ass. Now they have lost 1 game out 10, and you guys feel the need to ***** and make line up changes.

Again when your resume looks like Babs, I will freely let you all make you line up suggestions and not question them, but coaching mites through the school vacation tourney doesn't count!

I also forgot to mention that one of the reasons Stuart isn't playing on the powerplay is because one of Babcock's hobbies is to piss off a certain percentage of members of the LGW population for reasons just like this.

Hey, Chicago put Williams on the point. Remember how much he sucked at that position here?

Samuelsson is really bad on 2nd PP unit.

He is defensive player who nets some fluke goals from time to time. But PP player? No ****** way!

I'd rather see Chelios there, if Babs really must have righthanded shooter out there.

Hudler Franzen(while Mule is injured put there Filppula) Cleary

Kronwall Stuart(Chelios)

I don't think Sammy plays sloppy. He just has terrible timing. If he has the puck there's pretty much a guarantee he shoots it into an obviously flopping defenseman or straight into the chest protector.

Samuelsson is a pile of s***...hes a turnover machine. I honestly think he might be the most overrated player in the NHL. He is gettin second line ice time which is a joke. Im a huge wings fan, but i cant stand samuelssons dumb ass

I think you are overreacting just a touch there.

Because he's not a right-handed shot, and Babcock wants a right-handed shot on the point of the PP, and Samuelsson has a hard shot.

Hard shot? Are we even talking about the same guy? His might as well shoot backhanded shots from the point. His power and his aim suck.

Besides, Chelios is a right-handed shot. I'd rather have him on the PP than Sammy.

You and me both...

I made this exact same thread perhaps a few weeks after the trade for Stuart.

The only rational I can think of is trying to supress his stats for contract talks. ::sarcasim::

My only REAL problem with Sammy is that he never gets teh puck deep. He likes to deke through players rather than just dumping it in. That's all his line needs to do.
