#19=Legend 29 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 When was the last time more than one Detroit team has won a championship in the same year? Has it ever happened?
Redwingsfan18 1 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Let's see... The Tigers won a WS in 1935 and the Lions won a Championship as well, while the Wings won a SC in 35-36...but I'm not sure if that counts as the same year.. If you want to count U of M as Detroit area - the Wings and Wolverines both won in 97' But sticking to our 4 major sports.. Wings won in 51'-52' and 53'-54', while the Lions won in 52' and 53' Other then that, they've all been spread out
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 well i was hoping that the tigers could join the other two teams and then maybe the lions would catch the fever for one season but we are getting way to ahead of ourselves here....way too far ahead

BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Check out the latest results of a Detroit News poll: CyberSurvey With a total lack of consideration for Detroit fans, the NHL and NBA have scheduled both the Red Wings and Pistons to play on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday nights. Yes, you can click back and forth on the TV, or watch one and record the other, but which one will get the majority of your time? The Red Wings 95.70% The Pistons 4.30% Click here to comment on this topic

You could have 90% of the television market every night next week if you alternated the games, but now you are just going to have us flipping channels at every commercial to watch the other game. TV exec's, do you realize that us watching the commercials is what you want? You are shooting yourselves in the foot you damn idiots! I can't believe they did it again, I thought they would learn their lesson after last year.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 The Pistons have a ways to go before they even make the finals. The Celtics cant lose at home, and have home court advantage.
union drone 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 If the Wings and the Pistons both lose, do they get to play each other for the bronze?
Winged Scooter 0 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 I remember in 1989 The Pistons were NBA champs, and Michigan won the NCAA basketball title. There was a giant billboard coming from Ohio into Michigan that showed both teams and said : "Welcome to Michigan, Basketball Capital of the World"
VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 If the Wings and the Pistons both lose, do they get to play each other for the bronze? I would pay money to see the Wings and Pistons play a hockey game.
Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 I would pay money to see the Wings and Pistons play a hockey game. You would have to pay me to watch anything with the Pistons. I can't stand watching a bunch of gangster street thugs running around slapping each other. In other words, I hate pro basketball.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted May 21, 2008 Some other same city/college championship in the same year worth nothing that I can think of off the top of my head... 2003-04 UConn Huskies both men and women's National Basketball Champions/NCAA Tourney Champs. 2005-06 Florida Gators Football and Men's Basketball National Champs. Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 Hahaha I forgot all blacks are gangster street thugs. Completely slipped my mind. Fascist. What's funny is that I didn't mention a thing about anyone being black....however you hear "gangster street thugs" and assume I'm speaking about blacks. The joke's on you......"fascist". Get a life. Mason 38 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 But you meant it. To say you didn't would be a blatant lie. If we're going to play stereotypes, then I guess I should have assumed you're racist because your username is Copenhagen. Only racist neo-Nazi rednecks chew tobacco, right? Same logic as your gangster street thugs play basketball statement. White power.

So......you're calling me a racist and I did not make a single comment about anyone being black, and now I'm a redneck and chew because my user name is the same as a brand of tobacco. You're calling me racist and accusing me to play stereotypes??? Congratulations, you have sufficiently made yourself into a complete ass and a fool
Ladsud2002 0 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 Who's choice was it to match up the cup finals vs the pistons, NHL or NBC? That link to that poll doesnt work but im sure alot of people will end up watching the pistons in this area, not the majority but there will be alot. Theres also going to be 20,000 people in the palace on sat and mon night not watching the finals. I really hope it was NBC forcing the NHL into this schedule, The NHL has done enough to shoot themselves in the foot the last few years, this would be idiotic. Fri, Sun, Tues schedule makes so much more sense. Fire Betteman.
Copenhagen848 58 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 I don't like how the NBA season starts just a short time after the NHL for this very reason. They should spread it out a good month or so.
SFwingsfan 23 Report post Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) You would have to pay me to watch anything with the Pistons. I can't stand watching a bunch of gangster street thugs running around slapping each other. In other words, I hate pro basketball. I'm curious, which Pistons specifically are "a bunch of gangster street thugs" ? I think it's a reasonable question to ask after a statement like that. Rip Hamilton maybe because he grew up in a small mining town in Pennsylvania? No wait you must mean Tayshaun because he grew up in Compton? I'll tell you what man i've never picked a fight on this board but that's seriously some borderline racist s*** right there. We all know that you weren't referring to Steve Nash or Dirk Nowitzki.
