Hockey13Playa 240 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 Anyone see it? Crosby made a fool of himself. I caught it on ESPN, and hopefully someone else saw and can back me up with this. They were asking him some questions and Crosby asks himself a question out loud, "Did the Wings get many scoring chances" ? ... I don't think so, we played equal games both getting oppurtunities, they didn't get many more then us ( The Penguins). We hit the post here and there and they got some lucky bounces, shots going in off our goaltender, so no I don't think they played much better then us, we just have to make sure we capitalize more. It went something like that, sorry if something is wrong or different, feel free to correct me if anyone watched this. I will admit I love Crosby, hes such a young gifted and very talented player, but after his post game remarks I just had to laugh. What he was was so un true. I mean come on, the Wings didn't get many more scoring chances then the penguins? Yeah right, Look at the goal total, 7-0, and go back to the box scores and look. In my opinion, he made him self look like a complete idiot making that statement. How I took it was he basically was saying the Red Wings got lucky and they haven't been playing any better then the Penguins, that both teams have been playing equal. Whats everyone think, feel free to post if you saw this hopefully someone did!!
BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 That's basically what he said. But look, what's he supposed to say? "They're better than us?" He has to try and keep his team thinking positive, taking good things away from the loss. To do anything else would be to give up on his team. I'm sorry, but as annoying as his comments are, they're what he has to do.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 I don't know, I tend to agree with him. The Wings didn't have that many clear cut goal scoring opportunities other than Filpulla and Zetters. Staal hit the post and Crosby missed his chance at sweeping the puck in on a partial break - there wasn't alot of wide open hockey IMO.

There might not have been tons and tons of wide open hockey, but that doesn't make it takes away from scoring chances, sure there might not be AS MANY, but you can still generate them. Yes Staal hit the post and Crosby missed his chance, but I mean still to make it sound as if we aren't playing any better then them is not true what so ever. And to BlueMonk- You're right about sticking up for your team, but I mean like I said to Yzerfan1999, to make it sound as if we aren't playing better then them at all is rediculous, I mean making up excuses for your own team is one thing, but don't go on saying stuff like that, especially if you are the NHL fanboy and are " The God Of Hockey" , he is supposed to be hockey smart, and anyone can clearly say Detroit is playing better, and has had a dozen more chances at least the Pittsburgh. LidsFan 68 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 After listening to Crosby speak I am not impressed with him as a Captain. I think that he is too young and does not have the maturity to lead his team. A good Captain leads by example to inspire his team, not make excuses and whine about how the team cannot win because the Wings obstruct and dive.
dicksmack 33 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 Crosby said "it was just a matter of execution." Pens got executed alright... The pens had nothing TO execute... They got absolutely nothin' again. What a punk.

As captain of your team, you gotta put as positive spin on everything you can as possible in order to keep your team up. While I disagree with him that Detroit hasn't had that many more offensive chances these first two games, take into account that the guy is only 20 years old. Maybe giving Crosby the captains responsibilities so early was a bad decision for something like this, I'll leave that up for everybody in here to make their judgement on. He's still extremely young though and through time he'll become a better captain and will know even more how to handle himself in commentary/post-game interviews et al. Yak19 303 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 This is great, most ppl would be like we re-group and play better, but these guys are looking for excuses, they are in denial, we have them completely bassackwards in the mental game, and were not doing so bad in the actual game. keep it going boys, this is how we want them. russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 Ozzie did embelish when he was hit today, but whatever, the team did not dive, and they sure as hell don't pbstruct. I think reffereeing hasnt been too bad this series at all. Hey Sid instead of whining about the refs, and calling the Wings divers, and obstructors, how about you try actually showing up to a game. He has been invisible in BOTH games, and barely noticeable on either side of the ice.

Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted May 27, 2008 I have always thought putting Sid in as Captain so early was idiotic. It's like giving someone a position they have no experience with. He may have been a captain before the NHL, but it's comparing apples and oranges. I doubt there was anyone over 30 with a family and kids on his previous team, nor national coverage of his comments on the game.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted May 27, 2008 You lose all right to ***** about officiating after you take cheapshots when your team is down and out instead of regrouping and playing harder. The penalties wouldnt have been so lopsided if the Penguins hadnt been so stupid and undisciplined. And lets face it. If they did possession statistics like they do in soccer sometimes, itd show the Wings having a wide edge in possession. And as we all know, its harder to take penalties when you have the puck, then when youre chasing it around all night.

I'm sorry, but as annoying as his comments are, they're what he has to do. I thought he conducted himself pretty well as a young captain. His team just suffered two tough losses and has yet to score a point in the SCF. Talk about a shot to your pride. The press conference after the first game, he was alluding to obstruction calls not being made which is lame, but I thought he was fine. This time he left all the whining to his cry-ass of a coach. Seriously, I can't believe how much Therien complained about obstruction. The sick part is it'll probably work and they're gonna get a ton of calls at home next game. As a coach, I generally think you should be talking about your own team and what they need to do, not crying about obstruction. Instead Therien basically said the Wings were cheating and getting away with it, and Osgood is a diver. The young Jordan Stall had more insightful comments after the game than his friggin coach. If they did possession statistics like they do in soccer sometimes, itd show the Wings having a wide edge in possession. And as we all know, its harder to take penalties when you have the puck, then when youre chasing it around all night. I think Crosby is well within his rights to comment on officiating. Let's face it though, you can pretty much in any game imaginable call out the referees for missed calls of making things favorable for the other team. Detroit's had their fair share of both good breaks from the refs (i.e. Zetterberg 1st goal against Nashville in the playoffs, Holmstrom's PP goal against Dallas in game 1) as well as ridiculous pipe jobs (phantom interference no-goals). Comment on the officiating all you want for all I care, but in the grand scheme of things your team has to capitalize on if the referees give you breaks or extra power plays, or deal with and try to overcome adversity, whether you have fewer power plays or whatever else. Officiating is defiintely a factor in pretty much any game you play, but it should never, NEVER be the ultimate deterimining factor/excuse to winning or losing a game (and it rarely ever is I think, I stand by this comment even after the phantom intereference call on Holmstrom in Detroit's game 4 loss to Dallas).
