Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 Local issues have nothing to do with this, the fact is the Wings are a huge draw on the road and Detroit fans fill the seats at visiting arenas. There are Wings fans all over the country, not just the ones who make the trek from Michigan. Represent. I'm in Easter PA. Not that I'd trek over to Pittsburgh, though. That place is a s***hole. McCartyFanForLife 17 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 41 games, dude. Also, 20,066 seats. So, 520,000 against 822,706. BIG difference from what you're claiming. Anyway this isn't the first time. Carolina did the same thing in the '02 Finals. woah, major brain fart on my end. Good catch! Ticket total is closer, however, you still have 41 chances to catch a game as opposed to 8. Also, most Wings fans would rather save their money for the later playoff games and catch one of those games. Lions fans don't have to worry about the possibility of playoff games

Lions fans don't have to worry about the possibility of playoff games True enough about the playoffs. But I remember when Wings tickets used to be like getting past the velvet rope. Even on Tuesday nights in the dead of January. I think the factors hurting ticket sales are these, in order: #1 Success breeding familiarity. #2 Economy + ticket prices. #3 People actually going to Tigers games now. Cause I'll tell ya....it's a semi-valid point about the seats available for Lions games vs. Wings games, until the Tigers get thrown into the equation. They sold 3 million tickets last year, an all-time record, and should break that this year. They'll probably average 40,000+ for all 81 games.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 Good! I want as many Pens fans as possible to witness the asswhipping their team is about to get!!! Haha, I was thinking something similar. More to consider: They're only hurting their own city. Say the Joe was 1/10th full of Pens fans from Pitt. That's 4,000 people for the two games. They had to pay the Wings for the tickets (about $60 with parking), stay at least one night in town ($100), buy gas ($50) and probably at least three or four meals ($50). Over $800,000 pumped into our s***hole of an economy. That's assuming they didn't shop, gamble, visit other local attractions, stay an extra night or two..... So if Pittsburgh wants to cannibalize their own economy and not have any brought in from out-of-staters with disposable income, their loss.

You can take 4 people to a game with a hot dog and a pop for 80 bucks. Cost of game 2 just for me alone: Ticket- $170.00 Parking- well, free. Got there early enough! Many people - $20.00 2 drinks at the game - $28.00 Bottled water - $3.00 Gas - quarter tank = $20.00 No food, no souvenirs. That's $221.00 just for me. Can't afford to take anyone with me! Although I am surprised that the Wings don't sell out, the tickets are also way overpriced, which is why I don't get to many games. As stated above, the Tigers get way more people because it is much cheaper. In reference to the OP, it's some bull IMO. While they do have the right to do what they want, why would you as a business want to alienate anyone? Just tell your fans they had better buy up the tix before the Wings fans do. Behind Enemy Lines in CO 11 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 In the late 80's I was travelling alot and spent time in Hartford when the Whalers were still in town. The Bruins would come in to play and there was always a bus or two that would park outside the rink with Boston fans onboard for the game. And of course there were always fights on the sidewalk outside of the rink right next to the buses. Classic!

Is Pittsburgh really doing that much better than Detroit economically? If they are, then shouldn't the tickets have sold out in minutes to see a real hockey team????? edicius 3,269 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) Well, I could still get tix. However, I can't afford $250 per ticket (just checked Ticketmaster). Pittsburgh's a hole anyway. Last time I was there, some guy tried to sell me weed and then I later found out from someone else that he was posing as an undercover officer posing as a drug dealer and would shake you down for all your cash. No real desire to go back after that. Edited May 28, 2008 by edicius
DallasStars 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) I'm about to move to Phoenix and there are tons of Wings fans living in the valley. So, what does management do, they raise single game ticket prices for Wings games. Won't keep me from going (I've seen them play there twice already), but I think it's a s***ty thing to do when you're trying to sell the game to anyone who'll watch. Im pretty sure this type of thing happens in most sports. I know the Stars raise ticket prices a few bucks when we play "premium" opponents. It's not just Detroit..teams like Boston, Montreal, New York, Anaheim...along those lines. The Texas Rangers charge more for games against Boston, New York, Houston, Atlanta, Philly. This goes on in all sports. Edited May 28, 2008 by DallasStars
PaVel DaTsYuK fan13 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 I'm on the side that thinks this is an ass move by Pens management. To try to make a game free of people who aren't rooting for your team is stupid, and takes away from the competitive nature of the game.

kelloggfan 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 I hope the wings smoke em in their house tonight...listening to the silence is deafening! 8) Wonder how long it will take for them to boo the pens if they fall behind? it will be desperation tonight for them...and they will be coming out like a bat out of hell...if the wings can weather the storm...they should be good to go! Echolalia 2,961 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 The only way they can know for sure that you're from Michigan is to order online, and thats easy enough to fix. Just put in a fake address, order tickets to be picked up at the arena, and stop by a web proxy to make your ip address come from Canada or some state other than Michigan when you go to the website to order. cirov19 1 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 (edited) Why don't we just kick them out of the NHL? NHL is located in Canada and the United States of America. Teams in this league will be restricted to all provinces, and all states, excluding Pennsylvania. However, one team (Philadelphia) will be accepted from PA. So now Pittsburgh's coach can't think of anything to say after a loss, and their club's best idea is keeping fans from Michigan out of Mellon arena. We'll see how that works. savaking72 0 Report post Posted May 28, 2008 Pretty sneaky, but all for the best. When the Wings win tonight the fans are going to be looking for blood, or they will be like the Dallas fans who left before the 10minute mark in the 3rd! This all points to the Wings embarassing the Pens infront of their fans!

In my past as the state's attorney, I've never seen a case like this, however I will take some time and look into this issue.
