Reilly 24 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 I loved this kid. Is he going to play next year? Hopefully with the retirement of Drake he gets a spot. With Helm, too, there seems to be so much young talent on the Wings, I don't know who to give up on.
JeeSpot82 10 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Well, thankfully, you don't have to give up on any of the young talent. Helm looks pretty damn close, but it may benefit him more to spend another full year on the farm than playing single digit minutes on the fourth line. I like him in Detroit, though. Ryno may have hurt his changes JUST A LITTLE BIT by pulling a Grigorenko and giving up on North America and heading back to Europe after being sent down to the Griffins at the beginning of last season. He was one of the last Red Wings cut at training camp, and he looked very promising, but obviously didn't like being in Grand Rapids. I hope it was a momentary thing and that he gives North America another chance this upcoming year - even if it means spending the season (and probably the one after it) in Grand Rapids. Incoming Swedish goaltender Daniel Larsson let it be known that he intends on staying in America all year, even if it means being in Grand Rapids. That's the kind of attitude the Red Wings have grown to expect (and generally receive) from their prospects.

Cicada 4 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Ryno f*cked off back to the SEL and hardly got a game, giving up valuable playing and coaching time.. he's almost certainly be one of the black aces if he hadn't gone home. While i'm not giving up on him i'm not at all bothered about him now. He's well down the pecking order now as far as i'm concerned. btw he went home because he has a young kid and was very homesick (so they said).. wasn't really a Grigorenko situation who went for money. Wingman 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 I was disappoined too when he went home, but we don't know (or do we?) the exact circumstances. Homesick, chances of more ice time...maybe other factors, as long as there's no bad blood between him and the team staff I'm ok with it. I expect a strong training camp from him but as somebody said, he's got a long way to go. Hopefully he'll at least stay in GR next year though.
soul0wner 0 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Yeah he looked good to me when I saw him at a pre-season game last season. Maybe he will get another shot?

I don't know why he went home either, but this quote is from Red Wings Central: "Ryno was showing positive signs as an AHL rookie with Grand Rapids in 2007-08 before returning to Djurgarden of the Swedish Elite League. The problem wasn't so much that he left, but he went from a top-line player in Grand Rapids to a depth player in Sweden. Wherever Ryno ends up in 2008-09, it needs to be a team that will give him ice time, if he wants to develop into an NHLer."

For the 07/08 season I found the following statistics: Grand Rapid Griffins: 12 GP, 3+4 points, 8 PIM DIF (SEL): 30 GP, 2+7 points, 18 PIM (didn't find any TOI) DIF, playoffs: 5 GP, 0+0 points. 0 PIM (not exactly MVP numbers) Then he seem to be listed for AIK (one division below SEL) for the 08/09 season... Well, whatever your reasons are Johan, get over them and get your butt to Detroit
Zata fan 40 6 Report post Posted June 9, 2008 Is he even coming over for training camp? I thought he already signed with a second tier team in Sweden for the upcoming season...
