Any thoughts on who will be the next assistant coach?

I say Gerard Gallant a.k.a. "spud".

He has a history here and coaching experience.

Lets give him another cup...

Dave Lewis is another choice I like. He would have to swallow a little pride though. But we all know that the team, fans and ownership would accept him ...

I think it will be someone highly reguarded from the ahl. But me I would like to see Stevie Y. But that is probably just wishfull thinking on my part.

and wishful thinking on mine too.

Stevie Y!!!!!!!!!

He is probably the only ex-star player humble enough to admit that he needs to be an assistant before becoming a head coach!!!

Stevie has always known his role (thanks Rock) and I think he could actually work under Babs and do it without causing more turmoil than good!

However I still really see him becoming the GM after Holland, but I wouldn't mind seeing him.

he would be an amazing assistant coach... hell he's amazing at anything he puts his mind to.

Eh, I'm not fond of teams just giving these jobs to ex-players. The coaching staffs of Phoenix and Edmonton are filled with ex-Oilers and it hasn't done them any good.

... they are ex-Oilers afterall, can anything good be expected of them? :D

Well he kinda has to say some nice things about the Pens since it is afterall the NHL Network; he too won two Stanley Cups with the Pens - so I don't have any problem with him.

Thank you for putting the previous stupid post in its place.

He was, he took a head coaching job overseas, Russia, I believe.

Yeah he left about a year ago.

He'd been an associate coach for so long I can't imagine he'd go back the the NHL for anything less than a head job. I think he wants to coach NCAA anyway.

Did anyone else catch the article in the free press about this? I want to say it was about 2 weeks ago, and I remember Babcock mentioning these things, more or less:

*They're going to wait to look for an assistant coach until after all the NHL head coaching jobs are filled up. They won't mind getting a former NHL head coach as their assistant.

*They've already looked through the AHL ranks and didn't find anything there

*Babcock said something to the effect of "We're going to look at former NHL defenseman as well. We've got a lot of young defenseman this year..."

I thought that last part was really interesting.

I'll try and find the link. I only get the Free Press at home, but it might have been in the Sunday combined edition with the Detroit news.

If that is the case, I imagine that Murphy could be the guy. He seems to enjoy coaching segments on CBC and FSN enough.
