Any Captains Out There We Can Steal?

out of your mind. like peter...still hate those heaps.

Whose out of their mind, here? Sakic is all class. But I don't think he'd ever leave the Avalanche. That would be like Toronto picking up Yzerman for '05-'06. Just wrong.

But to say no to a player like that... if you want a playoff performer, look no further.

Its not even about Naslunds offense. Its more about the fact that he cant captain his team, is inconsistent, prone to floating, isnt gritty, doesnt play with energy, and has NO defensive game. Why do we want to bring back Robert Lang Swedish Style??

A few important things you need to know about Naslund:

1. Average PK time per game? 0:03

2. There were 7 Wings who had fewer than 13 hits on the Red Wings roster. None of them played more than 8 games. Markus Naslund played 82 games. How many hits did he have? 13.

This guy would be a terrible step in the wrong direction.

I agree with alot of your points, he isn't the same player he was a few years ago. The PK time is totally irrelevant (sp?), there are lots of guys in the league who dont kill penalties. His defensive game is the only thing that would concern me but a wise man once told me that you can teach a guy to play defence but its really hard to teach a guy to score goals...goal scorers are born with it. Nazzy can score and all we could hope for is that Babs could turn him into a semi responsible defensive player. I mean I'm not saying we can turn him into a Selke winner by any means but I think his desire to have a chance to win a cup and play with all his swedish friends just be the desire he would need to change his game a bit!!

For all intents and purposes, Brian Rolston is the leader, heart and soul player for the Wild. I know Minnesota uses the rotating captaincy, but Rolston is their best fit as captain.

Therefore, my vote goes to Rolston. Realistically, I would prefer to see two things from the Red Wings this summer: re-signing Stuart, and getting Rolston to come play in Detroit. I understand the hype and buzz right now surrouding names like Hossa, Sundin, and Naslund, but I don't see it likely any of those three sign with the Red Wings.

Rolston would be a perfect here. Leaving wannabe Hockeytown for the real one.

I dont want smith he is an old man and he showed it with the flyers. Its time to see what Ericsson and Meech have. If Stuart walks I want a powerplay qb on defense for the second pairing and take Samuelsson the logo hunter off the point. I wouldnt mind seeing the redwings sign Ozolinsh or Liles for the second pp unit, and put on a pairing with Kronwall

The PK time IS relevant because it shows that on a team that is not particularly deep on defensive forwards, he still wont be trusted with any PKing time. As for the Swedish argument? I was unaware that Naslund wasnt playing with 4 other high-profile Swedes. Not to mention, his best Swedish friend is Forsberg.

As for "changing" Naslund, at 5M per season like hell likely command, thats way too much money to invest in a player that doesnt suit our system and doesnt come ready to play like we want.

Yup, he would. Probably the best fit on the entire UFA market, among defenseman, forwards, and goaltenders. Hes a great skater, speedy, has a hell of a shot, is a character guy, and is good defensively. Hes really the sniper weve been missing. Ive wanted him in a Wings jersey since he played for Boston.

It's just as unlikely that Rolston will sign here, especially considering the kind of money he's reportedly looking for.

Jason Smith said earlier in the season that he wanted to return to New Jersey if the Flyers didn't bring him back; unless nobody else heard about this, I don't know why you all keep mentioning his name.

Plus, he's a slug, and is completely wrong for the Wings system. As a forward, you can get away with having no speed like that (think McCarty, Hudler, etc.), but as a defenseman, it just doesn't work.

is huds really that slow? not noticed him being that slow during games, i know he is no drpaer or helm but still seemed like he has speed (and on nhl 06 and 08 the guy is a lightning bolt)
