KronwallCRUNCH 5 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 i never loved him, but i didn't hate him like i do now. he seems to have gotten much douchier since becoming a ranger. thats my point, he's not on your team so you don't like his/his antics, which, yes- are extreme...same as fans of every other team in the league. if he was here (again,) people would like him (again)

Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 blah blah blah. nobody was saying that while he was here. people loved him, just like they loved him in LA, and love him in NY. ...I never liked him when he was here. I'd watch games and wonder what the guy is doing. I thought it was terrible. Detroit is too classy for stick waving jumping to the side bull that he tries to pull. We have our own chirpers who play the game with much more pride and determination than him, so we don't need him at all.

Opie 308 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 blah blah blah. nobody was saying that while he was here. people loved him, just like they loved him in LA, and love him in NY. Wrong, I was calling him an ******* back then, and will continue to call him an *******, YES some people loved his antics, but you know what some people think (Even after being proven) that you can't win a cup with a heavily Euro based team, especially not with one captained by a Euro. Just because some like it hot doesn't mean the majority or everyone likes it that way.

And never did. He goes beyond someone like Maltby. The guy has a lot of good qualities as a player, but so much garbage that comes with it. On the Wings right now, they play as a team and no one is bigger than the team. Avery is pretty much the opposite of that. He's a total distraction.

Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted June 24, 2008 I would LOVE to have avery back, He is a hell of alot better then his first stint with the wings.. Maltby and Draper arent getting any younger, He'd be an ideal 3rd liner for us.. and would be able to put up alot more points then Malts and Drapes also.. He might take penalties with his shinanigans, You must of missed Hartigan and McCarty throughout the playoffs then.
Inultus 12 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 The Red Wings organization is too classy for Avery. That's what I think, and that's what I thought even when he played for us. He is just too caught up in himself for this team.
mjlegend 155 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 Intriguing, but no. I'll take a discounted price on Shanny for a one-year project, though, if we're going to pay $3 million for a third liner. I think he understands better what a third liner does and would be more suited to that role at this stage of his career.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 Not happening. Avery is a good fit for teams like NY, teams that can't win on skill alone, teams that actually think "getting under their skin" is a legitimate plan of attack. That's not the Wings. Besides, we already have a first-class yapper in Maltby and an up and coming spark plug in Helm. Ditto.

That's exactly what the Red Wings need, because they didn't just win a championship or anything.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 That must be why Detroit fans cheer 'Sheed and Sheffield, too. Eh? LMAO -- that was the worst analogy ever. You just named about the two most "hated" sports figures in Detroit right now. Rasheed's antics have worn everyone out in the Pistons organization, and Gary Sheffield got booed at Comerica Park (quite loudly) when he was actually playing and batting around .200. Actually, the analogy might be accurate with Avery in a way. Both Rasheed and Sheff were welcomed and cheered upon their arrival; then eventually everyone got fed up with their antics/personalties, and now most Detroit fans don't want anything to do with either. That's exactly how Avery would turn out with his dumb-ass penalties and constant immature acts on and off the ice. Consider as well that Avery is nowhere near the talent or impact player that Rasheed and Sheffield were/are in their respective sports.

12Newf 0 Report post Posted June 24, 2008 avery is a disgrace and he will also want somewhere in the neighbourhood of 4 million. i like to think detroit is a classier organization than to sign this kid.
Guest Dump-N-Thump Report post Posted June 24, 2008 It's obvious that people on these boards who say "he takes useless penalties" dont watch Sean Avery play. He had 154 Penalty Minutes.. 30 of them were from fights. He is averaging a little over a penalty per game.. Rangers GM Glen Sather cited Ottawa winger Chris Kelly's recent signing of a four year $8.5 million deal as reasonably comparable, according to the NY Post. (Jun 22) everyone who says he is looking for 4-5m.. he's going to get 2.5-3.5..

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted June 25, 2008 He's obviously better and more developed offensively since he left Detroit, but he has too much baggage. People say guys like Chelios or Draper or Maltby would keep him in check. Well, the Rangers had a few veterans on their team with Avery as well (Shanahan, Straka, Jagr, etc.) and Avery still was a distraction or drama queen or whatever you want to call him as well. I understand paying him a few million based on his skills/potential skills on the ice, but paying him so much to risk being a potential distraction. Besides, I think (I don't know or am not stating this as "fact", just guessing) that he wouldn't get offered as much to come back to the Red Wings, if he was offered and contract, and could get plenty more to be a consistent 3rd/potential 2nd liner. Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted June 25, 2008 Chelios, Lidstrom, Drapes, Malts, Mac (if he's back)..they'd keep him in check. Are you suggesting Mac could help control a player? A guy who blew millions, literally having his life financially set forever yet is so incrtedibly stupid and completely out of control enought to lose it all through pathetic loser gambling and drinking binges? That is a guy who can help control an outspoken guy??!!?!?!?!?!?!?

That's exactly how Avery would turn out with his dumb-ass penalties and constant immature acts on and off the ice. Consider as well that Avery is nowhere near the talent or impact player that Rasheed and Sheffield were/are in their respective sports. WHAT!?! First of all, my point was about their antics, not their talent compared to others in the league. Every off-season people talk about getting rid of Sheed, but then once the season comes, he's cheered louder than any other Piston. When he gets the ball, all you hear is "SHEEEEED" from the crowd, so no, my analogy isn't bad. You basically proved my point for me about how they were both welcomed when they came to Detroit. The only reason Sheff was booed by (a small group of fans) is because he's spent time on the DL and hasn't been healthy/hasn't performed, not because of his attitude. How loud were the fans booing last night when he jacked one over the fence? That's what I thought. Bottom line is that fans liked Avery when he was here, LA fans loved him in LA, NY fans love him in NY. Red Wings fans would love him again if he was here (again.) To say otherwise is just being a blind homer/hater.
