Writing about low-drafted players that have a good chance of making an impact is pretty standard stuff. Normally you write about a player who has something that sets him apart from the crowd, or you got good vibes from the scouts you talked to, or saw him play and expected him to go higher. Jesper Samuelsson is a subject of the article, simply because he was drafted by the Wings.

The final selection in any draft is usually just fodder for a trivia question. When Detroit owns that last pick, though, you'd better make note of it. More than any other franchise, Detroit has managed to find NHL stars in the late rounds, which is like finding diamonds in a coal mine.

I don't think the Wings scouting staff could get higher praise than including Jesper in the article for no other reason than it was the Wings that took him.

since when does ESPN talk about hockey?

Well I guess all these times that I have been reading the NHL section on ESPN.com it has just been one big mirage. I guess seeing Don Cherry during the Eastern Conference Finals and Stanley Cup Finals on ESPN broadcasts this season was actually his evil twin.

I have a good feeling about Jesper after reading a little bit about him. He seems very promising and could potentially be another Zetterberg-type impact player. At the same time, I'm not sure he'll be THAT good, but I do believe he'll be pretty good as long as he develops really well. A lot will be determined this season when he plays for Timra. It'll be interesting to see just how well he makes the transition up to that level.

The Jason Missiean kid that was mentioned in there is from my hometown Chatham Ontario Population 20,000. Nice to see that he got some regognition.

It does help that he is a 6'8" goalie as well.

At least this way we can get rid of our old Sammuelson. Heck, this new guy was picked in the 7th round, too, so he should be even better

Is there anything in the rulebook against having two Samuelsson's on the roster?

And what if these two guys play entirely different games? I highly doubt the efforts of one player are going to force just one other player to leave.

And what are you basing it on with the second Samuelsson being better? I think there has to be a little bit more than, "HE WAS DRAFTED IN THE 7TH ROUND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

I assume he must be better than Mikael Samuelsson because it's Mikael Samuelsson. How could he NOT be better?

:P

Yeah, my post was made just to be funny. If this next Sammuelson even gets a shot at training camp he will have already exceeded my expectations. I mean... he is a Sammuelson
