Best mix of talent and conditioning. I agree on both points, except I was never no swimmer! I like watching swimming, and basketball the most. Used to like track, but now every time someone wins they are accused of doping/steroid use so that kind of turned me off. My favorite summer olympic moment still is from 1996, when Kerri Strug landed that flip thing in gymnastics.

Certain gymnastics events are fun to watch. Floor exercises, pommel horse, balance beam: pretty lame. Vault and uneven/parallel/horizontal bars: fun. The rings can be pretty exciting too. BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted July 1, 2008 I'll watch a little bit here and there, but the summer games just don't get me fired up like the winter ones do. That, and I hate NBC's coverage.
Guest Shoreline Report post Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) Nope. Won't be watching for many personal reasons. I will keep track though via internet. Looking forward to the 2010 winter games though. Hoping the U.S. does go there and take all the medals from China. Also hoping for underdog nations to win lots of medals. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted July 2, 2008 Absolutely love the Olympics so I cannot wait! Really looking forward to the basketball actually. The Australian Boomers squad is shaping up very nicely. We might not win a medal but we've got a young and talented squad full of potential. I've been following their progress a lot recently and we're shaping up well. The swimming will be terrific. It's always Australia v USA.
mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 That, and I hate NBC's coverage. I agree with you there! Kostas and crew are pretty average IMO.

omnipotent_hudler 0 Report post Posted July 19, 2008 itt we make predictions as to the number of protesters imprisoned/killed and the number of athletes sidelined by horrible air and the number of times nbc will be horribly tempted to break its contract clause that prevents it from showing this
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted July 24, 2008 Yes I will watch. I love Bob Costas. I'm most looking forward to watching diving, swimming and women's gymnastics. So I voted Other in that category. And I think China will win the most medals and the most gold medals.
Doggy 130 Report post Posted July 30, 2008 Go Aussie. I voted for Australia to win the most. No bias there.

I've been following their progress a lot recently and we're shaping up well. I doubt the Boomers will do much. The Opals should at least get a silver though. And for some reason I'm attracted to Lauren Jackson.

Like to reassess that comment? Only lost to the US by 11 points 2 nights back, and that was without Bogut. Sure it was only an exhibition match and your intensity and general effort may have been down however we were without our best player. We got up by 19 points against Argentina a few nights before too. A medal is still a long shot but we're looking pretty promising and could cause some upsets. The Aussies also went 1-4 in the 2004 summer olympics, missing the medal rounds completely. I believe the Aussie's did well in the 2000 summer games, but got upset in the medal rounds but you got a better chance of looking/remembering that. I think the woman's team will medal, finishing behind the US team and men's team will finish out of the medal placement tho. I think its USA, Argentina, Spain in the medal placement. Aussies i think have the easiest road to get in the basketball region based on their oceanica regional. What do they have to beat Guam to get in???

Jwo 7 Report post Posted August 8, 2008 (edited) Why are the opening ceremonies not being shown here in America? Is it that bad over there in China that they won’t show it? *Edit* I guess NBC is showing a rerun of it tonight. I guess it would have not matter here in Detroit if they showed it live as half of it would have been interrupted. But the fact that it's not shown live like every country does Tee's me off real bad. I caught the end of it on live on CBC. which CBC is also showing a rerun tonight. It is official Canadians>Americans. And this is not in Hockey coverage. NBC owns the olympic rights and is going to show a lot of their coverage on primetime under a tape delay. CBC shows more live coverage...traditionally always has. Sucks is people with Directv like me, don't get cbc. I am stuck watching NBC.
Jedi 1,865 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 Why are the opening ceremonies not being shown here in America? Is it that bad over there in China that they won’t show it? I guess that was a rather emphatic "NO" to answer your question! Holy. Crap. What an awesome thing to watch. Very entertaining, and almost spellbinding, as you wanted to see what exactly they would do next. Those of you who didn't catch it, you should DVR it or tape it or whatever you have to do to see it. Doggy 130 Report post Posted August 9, 2008 Like to reassess that comment? Nah. The Boomers aren't very good. The US Dream Team is fair dinkum this year too - no-one will come close to them. The exhibition match was meaningless. You should know better than to read much into the final margins of any basketball game let alone an exhibition game. If you're looking for some Australian success in basketball, again - watch the Opals not the Boomers.
