SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted August 14, 2008 While I don't watch basketball regularly, I watched the first half of the U.S. - Greece basketball matchup this morning before heading to work and the 2nd quarter was one of the more entertaining and defensively dominating quarters I have seen in basketball for a while. Dwayne Wade looks insane for the U.S. right now and they are doing plenty of good things right now in trying to be the Redeem Team.
sjradio 0 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I'd prefer for some of the olympic events to be like they were in the ancient olympics. competitors in the nude. Events that should be competed in the nude. Women's Beach Volleyball (practically there already) Women's swimming Women's volleyball Women's gymnastics. Women's basketball Women's badminton Women's Canoe/Kayak Women's cycling Women's diving Women's equestrian Women's fencing... Uh on second thought... maybe not. Women's field hockey Women's handball Women's judo Women's pentathalon Women's rowing Women's sailing Women's shooting Women's soccer (they should keep the shin guards though... need to have some safety gear. Women's syncronized swimming Women's Taekwando Women's tennis Women's track and field (not so much the hammer throw and shot put) Women's trampoline Women's triathlon Women's water polo all women's sports except weightlifting... Don't need to see that. I only saw one weightlifting event so far this Olympics, so I'm guessing they have different weight classes or something like that, but the women were not bodybuilding looking types, thank god. Bodybuilders make me all sick and queezy. The women weren't really all that tall or weighed much, anywhere from 110 - 130 pounds only. But they had muscle and good technique. But again not the groose bodybuilder muscle type.

Doggy 130 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 I never miss the swimming in any Olympics and I can't remember when our swimmers looked so dominant. Yeah, but are they as cute as Shephanie Rice? I saw her for the first time yesterday - HOT!
Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Yeah, but are they as cute as Shephanie Rice? I saw her for the first time yesterday - HOT! Yeah Rice is very good, and very attractive. She's been all over the media here. Can't believe Leisel Jones lost to one of your swimmers today.

Yeah, have you noticed they never, ever do close-ups of Johanna Griggs? Everyone else gets a close-up but I've only ever seen her on a wide shot. I'm convinced there is something wrong with her head. Acne problem or something maybe.
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Yeah, but are they as cute as Shephanie Rice? I saw her for the first time yesterday - HOT! Rarely. Stephanie Rice definitely gives the Aussies the gold medal in the 200-meter HAWT. Natalie Coughlin gets the silver though. That 200 breast was shocking. And totally awesome. Leisel Jones won the 100 by a pretty comfortable margin, so I figured silver again up until about 75 yards in when I realized Soni was gaining on her fast. Helluva race. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Does anyone else think the Chinese women's gymnastics team was lying about their age, as several media outlets have suggested? Those girls looked like they were about 8. There's no way those girls were 16. It's a joke. But what is the IOC going to do about it? It's just one more reason why China doesn't deserve to host the games.

auxlepli 17 Report post Posted August 15, 2008 Was watching the Games at a bar last night. When the Phelps race came on the bartender turned down the music and turned up the TV sound. When Phelps won the bar went crazy! Nobody was drunk enough to buy us all a round.

Cern 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 (edited) So Tell me, why do you watch any regular season hockey? It's so uncompetitive. The Wings win the division every year. They barely won the Central in 2006-07, if I recall. Plus, as gets said ad-nauseum on this forum, inter-division play involving the Wings isn't anything close to uncompetitive, and that's only going to increase for next season the way Chicago has been shaping up. Just out of curiosity, what are you watching this year? Seems you're not watching the swimming, at any rate. Beach volleyball is probably out. Track and field sprint events are out. When looking for a competitive Olympic sport by your definition, what do you settle on? Fencing? No, probably not, the American ladies swept the medal podium. Equestrian? Triathlon, 10k swim, little bit of gymnastics, and a little bit of rowing. Edited August 16, 2008 by Cern
Cern 0 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 real simple question: Is Phelps the greatest swimmer ever? I think you can definately claim he is the best American swimmer, but now I think you can move that into of all time swimmer categories. Spitz didn't have the advantage of a hydrodynamic bodysuit, goggles, or a swimcap, plus he had to deal with the added drag caused by his manly mustache. Spitz > Phelps
betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 Spitz didn't have the advantage of a hydrodynamic bodysuit, goggles, or a swimcap.... Neither did Spitz's opponents. The gold medals say nothing about the times. Also, Spitz never swam the IM. Phelps swam it twice. End of discussion. Advantage Phelps.

Doggy 130 Report post Posted August 16, 2008 Alright now for the medal tally that matters. The medal tally weighted to each nation's population. And I think it's pretty safe to say this is a perfectly accurate reflection of what things would be like. Firstly, the medal if every country had the population of the USA: And the funniest one, if we all had China's 1.3bn people: Lots of gold for the Aussies.
