With the wings having a decent amount of cap space, do we stand pat where we are? I mean why not Hossa addition is HUGE and still have around 4 mill left.

still have a few needs that can be filled by younger players Just trying to get thoughts as to the use of the remaining Cap space

Kenny has said the big moves are done. My guess is that they will use some of the 4 mil to tie up some loose ends already on the team and then hold the rest for the trade deadline to insure they have some play money to fill an open spot due to injuries.

They still have to resign Filppula, Quincey, Ericsson, and Howard, Chelios, McCarty, and Downey (or some combination there of).

with the STUART signing I saw the possibility of Quincey leaving via trade since he has to clear waivers before going down to the minors again and Chelios wanting to play again and Lilja re-signing...... It sucks but i do see him going,

Filp does need to be signed for sure I agree..... But as far as injuries go Id say we have the Bases covered

Helm will not be a starter in Detroit, He will be a top liner and call up option for injury and

either Downey or Mac need to be signed for grit... so I guess we are really good right now and it makes us

the Best in the NHL with out question ( Not that there was one )

I disagree,I think Helm starts from the beginning of the season. They do need to get Flip locked up though.

Where will he fit in ? Id love to see him in a winged wheel, but with the Hossa signing it takes a Big spot away

Helm isnt a scorer. He plays on the 3rd or 4th line.

I'd say with the addition of Hossa, Sammy probably isn't needed anymore.

Quincey will be gone.

Lebda will be gone.

Downey will probably be gone, depending. I don't see them dumping Mac, but maybe they will run with both of them, which is fine with me.

Then I figure the off-season moves will be over. Everyone else will be resigned and we end up steamrolling the competition.

Flipper, but that's a mere formality I think. He's just trying to measure his worth compared to other guys of his position with similar styles I think. But it's been well documented that he wants to remain a Wing I think and Holland will match any offer for him.

Other than that, sign one/both of Downey and McCarty and the Wings are fully set I think. Even if the Wings don't do this, Holland has already hit a home run with these signings the past 2 days.

Lebda is very expendable. He has speed sure, but you can't tell me he would be sorely missed if Quincey were to step up in his position.

Okay, assume Filppula is signed. Now at forward we have:

Datsyuk Zetterberg Holmstrom

Franzen Filppula Hossa

Cleary Draper Maltby

Sammy Helm Hudler

Kopecky (Leino)?

Unsigned: Downey, McCarty

We have just as much of a logjam at forward now as we do at defense. I mean, how can Leino possibly make this team? How can even one of Downey/McCarty be retained, let alone both? Man what to do?

Leino and Helm will more than likely play in GR unless injuries occur. Kopecky could possibly be on the way out, making room for McCarty and/or Downey (to fill that enforcer type role). Quincey will probably just not be re-signed, due to the logjam on defense and the need to retain salary for the rest of our RFA's and next season. I could see Lebda being traded away too, but my gut says they won't. His speed on the back-end is a strong asset and he is dependable defensively. I see him and Lilja spending most of the time on the third pairing and splitting time with Chelios/Meech.

Although, if for some reason McCarty doesn't want to accept a 2-way contract and minimal playing time and Downey doesn't pan out, I really really hope they can get Laraque for cheap. Man, that would piss off Pittsburgh even more and that would be a bonus to getting the big guy. Pitt pisses and moans soooooo much! Haha
