ehorn3 2 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I'd take Stuart over Blake. Blake is lazy and sucks. By the way calling players that play in the NHL "lazy and sucks" is my favorite pasttime. I owe a great deal to whoever started that trend

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 I remember back when this guy used to have a feared shot from the point and was a devastating bodychecker. It's amazing how far he's fallen in the last few years, and should have clearly retired by now.

SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted July 3, 2008 Meh, who knows, I have little doubt that Blake can still have spurts where he can thrown the well-known hard hit and shoot hard like he did in the past, but he's all but in the last parts of his career and $5M/year for him definitely seems like an overpayment to me. He didn't suggest that Blake = Lidstrom. He compared them in terms of age and leadership qualities.

Kingston 21 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 After losing Brian Campbell to the Chicago Blackhawks, the San Jose Sharks have added an exprienced face to their blueline. The Sharks announced Thursday that the team has agreed to a one-year, $5 million contract with 18-year veteran Rob Blake. "Rob is a tremendous competitor that has been one of the top defensemen in this League for many years," Sharks GM Doug Wilson told the team's official website. "While he has enjoyed mentoring the young guys, great players need the ability to win in order to thrive and his sole purpose here is to focus on winning." The former Norris Trophy winner should be plenty familiar with the Sharks, having spent the majority of his career with division-rival the Los Angeles Kings. While Blake is 38-years old, new Sharks coach Todd McLellan doesn't believe that will be a problem. "Rob's skill set and intangibles speak for themselves." "I coached Nicklas Lidstrom for the last three years and Rob is the same age as him. Rob, like Nicklas, has proven to be a leader on a championship-winning team and any coach would be lucky to have a player of his caliber." Sharks forward Joe Thornton, who has teamed with Blake in international competition, believes Blake will fit right in with the team. "I've gotten to play with Rob at several international tournaments and we've built a friendship over the years," said Thornton. "He'll fit right into our group and more importantly will help us win. He is extremely talented and can play, and excel, in every situation." In 71 games for the Kings last year, Blake recorded nine goals and 22 assists and was -19. The six-foot-four, 225-pound defenseman was originally selected by Los Angeles in the fourth round of the 1988 NHL Entry Draft.

soultrain 43 Report post Posted July 4, 2008 waste of money on an old fart. i hate rob blake because he once played for the av's. now i got a new retard to yell at in san hoe. i will bring a sign with guru pitka to the games! GO BACK TO HOLLYWOOD BLAKE. YOUR A WASH UP. GLAD YOU DIDN'T COME TO DETROIT!!!! sharks won't be that much better...maybe worse if they can't rid themselves of marleau...i really think he is the problem here.. fans really want him to play with more of a spark. he took a few big hits, and scored some goals in this years playoffs...but you could put almost anyone and put them next to JOE THORNTON and make them score 25-30 goals a year. i liked ron wilson.even though he couldn't take them farther! im not a fan with some of the moves (or lack of) in san ho. glad i feel so connected to the red wings.
