They have the proposed layout on NHL.com's main page. Not only are the seats five million feet away, they're all at weird corner-ice angles where a near-unwatchable angle on the action is guaranteed!

Whose idea was it to put a rink on a BASEBALL FIELD, anyway?

that one puzzled me too, why not the big house? or one of the millions of other listings for a michigan match. And if you're going to do it in Chicago, why there of all places?

Maybe the Bears said no, so they could not do it at Soldier Field?

Or maybe the people of Chicago wanted to see what it was like to have a defending champion play at Wrigley Field.

With a rink arrangement like that, they still aren't.

Oh wait, that was a Cubs joke. BA-ZING.

It's not about the seats or the arrangements, it's about TV! Wrigley is a classic stadium that inspires nostalgia like no other stadium left, Detroit and Chicago are classic teams. Chicago is a huge market, Detroit is a fan favorite all over the country. It all makes sense as a great opportunity to show off the NHL on New Years day when plenty of people will be sitting around and able to tune in. Honestly, if people find a reason to complain about this one, then you need more work or school or sex or something. This is the game and venue they should have had from the start. Can't wait to see Kronner check someone up against the ivy covered brick wall! :)

They choose Chicago, because they have Kane and Toews and to introduce hockey to the masses you need Good Teams and Young Stars..

Good Team = Detroit

Young Stars = Chicago/Deetroit

Age Ole' Rivalry = Yup

Hopefully the game will live up to the hype.

Can't they put seating on the outfield? Just cover over the grass and that and put temporary seating down. Thats what they do here in UK when a concert is on at our major stadiums. It increases ticket sales, gives better crowd and also means at least SOME people will be able to see the game.

Bettman's going against his own trend of encouraging hockey teams to be located in warm-weather cities and is eyeing Chicago for a possible expansion team ... an outdoor game is a great way to gauge interest and drum up corporate sponsorship, and ... wait ... what's that you say? Chicago already has a team?

Is that sarcasm? Or do you actually think they're going to host an NHL outdoor game in Phoenix?

They did one in Vegas... The Kings played the Canucks I believe.

Then why not have the game played in a field somewhere? Or otherwise not make the game viewable live? Spending several hundred dollars for a ticket when you aren't going to be able to see a damn thing anyway is absolutely ridiculous, 'nostalgia' or not. That's like me paying 500$ for a Rolling Stones ticket where my 'seat' is outside of the arena they're playing in.
