96warrior 11 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 http://www.mlive.com/redwings/ Hossa arrives on Friday, will start skating with new teammates next week by Ansar Khan Tuesday September 02, 2008, 1:57 PM Marian Hossa, the Wings' newest star forward, will arrive in town Friday and start skating with some of his new teammates next week, as players are holding optional practices in preparation for the start of training camp on Sept. 20. Hossa's close friend, Wings forward Tomas Kopecky, said he's picking him up at the airport on Friday. "We talk every day,'' Kopecky said. "I think he's going to fit perfectly here. He can't wait. He's really escited to play in front of our D.''

Chunkylover 26 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 When we signed Hossa I wondered whether he'd have any chemistry on a line with Kopecky since they are countrymen. Now I find that they're friends off the ice. Perhaps we'll see them together in the preseason.
96warrior 11 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Here's a little more from the Wings' website: “We’ve known each other for a long time,” said Kopecky of the Red Wings’ big free agent acquisition. “We grew-up about five minutes from each other. We’re really good friends. I have lots of great memories of him when he was still playing in Trencin (Slovakia) and I was still a young guy. "I’ll pick him up on Friday from the airport and he’ll stay at my house. We’re really good friends and I think that will help especially for a new guy coming into a new environment and everything. I’ll do my best to help him.” The Wings signed Hossa to a one-year contract on July 1. “He called me right after he spoke to Kenny (Holland),” Kopecky said. “ It was 3 o’clock in the afternoon when he told me that Detroit had got him an offer, and I told him what I think. I told him when he was ready to sign with Detroit or somebody else to call me right away. He did and he gave me the great news. “After the finals, he said he’s so excited to play in front of our D – Raffi and Nick, and Kronner. He’s really offensive and really competitive. I think he’s anxious to play good hockey. Here, every time he played, he liked our puck-possession and our style of play. He loves it.”

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 News to me too. Not technically signed yet, but it's been agreed upon. not to derail the thread, but my least favorite part of the news about Chelios is the "slightly less than the $850,000 Chelios made last season." Booster313 138 Report post Posted September 2, 2008 Maybe the thought of playing with one of his best friends will keep him in Detroit long term. In any case I am really glad to have him here this year!!!!

T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted September 3, 2008 Here is a one-liner that I feel discribes our off-season. "Yes, we can have our cake and eat it too." Every cloud has a silver lining: My summer blew by way too fast, but that means training camp is about a week away! You get the feeling like its gonna be 2002 all over again, when they dominated. And I know it can't be like that, but I can't help it. Wohoo!
LeftWinger 5,153 Report post Posted September 3, 2008 Hopefully he has a great season here, and see's no where else to go but stay in Detroit ...he'd have to sign for about $4.5 million to stay... ...on a tyhe original topic, I work on Friday and will be checking to see which fligt he will be arriving on (he will more than likely connect through Amsterdam to Detroit, either on KLM or Northwest (most people traveling from Europe to Detroit do) and I will hopefully have a break and be able to go up and meet him in person! Ahhh, the perks of being an airline employee! ...unless he comes in after 1:30 pm, then I will NOT be there, I work the EARLY shift and even though I love the game, I don't plan on hanging out at the airport past my shift just to see this guy. I hope he comes on flt. 39 from Amsterdam it gets there around 10:00 to 10:30 am!
