Konnan511 1,736 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 So I just got a text from my younger brother who is a goalie. It reads: "Guess who I am sitting next to", then a minute later it says "Steve Stamkos"! I tried to get a hold of him and he didn't answer and then i finally got a hold of my Dad and told me this nice little story. So as everyone knows the Wings training camp is starting up in TC. Well that is where I live. Tampa Bay usually sends their prospects up there as does a couple other teams every year. Well Tamps Bay only had one goalie come so they needed another one. One of the scouts for TB asked the manager of Centre Ice if he knows of any good young goalies that do not have draft rights held by other teams in the area and he recommended my little brother since he made the Michigan D1 Dream team as goalie as a junior this past year (He is 6'3" 215). They called him and invited him to play with the prospects for this one night. Naturally he agreed. But the story gets better. Well they did some drills and did some intra-squad scrimmages and my little brother being the only other goalie there played the whole game and played great. Stone-walled Stamkos on his first attempt (later he'd dangle my little brother back to grade-school), but the coach there was so impressed he actually invited him back for tomorrows games! Just thought I'd share this with you and hopefully I can upload some pics later if anyone in my family took pictures!
Cicada 4 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 i'm fairly sure that Stamkos isn't on the Tampa roster for Traverse City... so i'm sceptical

Textbook 1 Report post Posted September 13, 2008 @Cicada, The Tampa Bay Lightning do participate in the Traverse City prospect tournament. And it is spelled skeptical. http://www.tboblogs.com/index.php/sports/c...rospect-roster/ According to that post, Stamkos would be absent, but he must have changed his mind. That's an awesome story though about your brother.

That's an awesome story though about your brother. I don't think he was skeptical that the Bolts were in Traverse City, he was saying Stamkos wasn't supposed to be their. According to your post and the fact that Stamkos is noticeably absent from Eklunds list of top prospect gives him a right to question the validity of the story. I like to believe people who tell stories like this 'cause they are neat - but lets see some pictures! That makes everything more exciting. Cicada 4 Report post Posted September 14, 2008 well consider mcleod and malik http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/2008/09...pects-camp.html http://blog.mlive.com/snapshots/2008/09/st...prospect_t.html have both reported that Stamkos isn't in Traverse City i'm still Skeptical and i'm going to need some more evidence.. he didn't play in Tampa's 1st game http://www.pointstreak.com/prostats/boxsco...l?gameid=799886 so unless he's there and only practicing.. i'm not calling it bulls***, it perfectly reasonable to believe that he's with the Tampa squad and just misidentified Stamkos, or 'exadurated' a little, but i'll need some proof before i take it seriously, not that anyone cares what i think
hillbillywingsfan 794 Report post Posted September 14, 2008 yeah because we all know that Eklund has the 411 on every player in the league.
Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted September 14, 2008 yeah because we all know that Eklund has the 411 on every player in the league. Actually, he probably knows a bit more then us here, and if Stamkos wasn't on his prospects 'to watch' list - it leaves one thinking... Even so, the argument about Eklund is that he pulls bulls*** rumours out of his butt - this has nothing to do with a rumour, its just a training camp roster. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted September 15, 2008 Told you Told you guys I wasn't making stuff up. So many negative nancys here, geez. But someone else didn't question the validity that he was playing with the Tampa prospects, he questioned the part about Stamkos, since he isn't supposed to be there. I've read, as recent as today, that Stamkos is not there. Now, I guess there is a chance that Stamkos was there for practice, but just isn't playing in the prospects tourney? Possibly, but I'm not sure why he'd be there practising, but not playing.
