Scotty 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) I was just curious as to what other Wings fans are thinking. Who would you rather see as Osgood's backup this year? Edited September 20, 2008 by Scotty
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Conklin. Howard's not going to wilt away and die just because he has to spend another year on the farm -- quite the opposite, in all likelihood.
soultrain 43 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 the conk-roach. that is why we picked him up. jimmy is a bit green, he will be a solid goaltender in a few years...like everything it is gonna be hard work. if he doesn't get the spot detroit will bring him up in a year or so anyways and trade him to a team that could make better use of him. i've been hearing jimmy howards name for years, he should be able to get a job...if not the wings..vancouver! ha! SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Ken Wregget Unless one just completely outplays the other during camp and pre-season, Conklin by default. As others have stated already, Howard can go up-down from the Red Wings to the minors if necessary without having to worry about being claimed off waivers, hence it being better for him to play more as #1 in the AHL vs. not play as much as a backup with the Wings. lets go pavel 2 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Conklin. What would be the point of having the potential future goaltender of the franchise sitting on the bench in Detroit most nights, not playing and not improving, while a guy we specifically got to be the backup and who we know isn't going to be the future goalie of the franchise plays every game in GR? Dawgs 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Conklin. Howard has another year left before waivers and the best way to maximise that time is to let him play 50 games in GR. Next year Larrson steps into the starting GR job and Howard is with the big club.
gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 Conklin. Howard needs more ice time if he's going to be half a Wings goalie ever. He still has MUCH to learn and prove if you ask me about what it really takes to play at the NHL level day in and day out.

LIDDYGIBBY5 1 Report post Posted September 20, 2008 (edited) Who ever has the better camp and preseason. If it is Howard, I have no problem. If it is Conk, that is great too. Just as long as it is the player who played the best. Edited September 20, 2008 by LIDDYGIBBY5
