Dan Wood:

Right wing Teemu Selanne is scheduled to be in the Ducks’ lineup for Sunday’s 5 p.m. exhibition game against the Vancouver Canucks at Honda Center after signing a two-year, $5.25 million contract earlier in the day.

Interesting that it's for two years.

Yeah also interesting it puts them back over the cap by approximately 1.225 mil.

The signing of Selanne once again pushes the Ducks above the NHL’s $56.7 million salary ceiling for this season, by about $1.225 million… The Ducks’ current salary-cap projection includes having rookie winger Bobby Ryan on the NHL roster, which isn’t a given, but appears more likely than not. Were the Ducks to assign Ryan to their American League affiliate, the Iowa Chops, the Ducks would slide more than $500,000 beneath the cap with that move alone.

They can try, but he has a no-trade clause. They could waive him, I suppose.

I dont have a link, but the guys on xm 204 all week have been talking about moving Schneider, and getting Selanne in. They were saying exactly whats happened thus far, about Selanne still putting them over the cap and that Marchants name kept coming up as a possibility for them to move.

Is he on a two-way contract? If not, his salary counts the same.

He's on a one-way contract, but it was signed when he was under-35, so if he's sent to the AHL, he would be off the Ducks cap. He would still get his NHL salary in the AHL.

I am just curious why Marchant is the focus of them getting under the cap there? Do you know why?

He's a shadow of his former self, and he makes $2.51 million on the cap. He hasn't broken 10 goals in a season since 2002/03.

He's a good two-way player, but he's paid way too much to be a guy who barely cracks their 4th line.

Thanks. I didn't know a whole lot about him, and had no idea he makes that much. Talk about overpaid. Maybe another team will take him on.

Haven't you kept up with the Anaheim talks on this board?

Burke has no idea what to do. He just waits for me to post and figures out how to proceed from my suggestion of what moves he should make.
