Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 I'm so glad Williams, Schnieder, Lang and all of the former Wings that meant anything to us are in the East now. They are clutch against us, any time, anywhere.

puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Loooo! I've missed you! Hi, hon... me, you too! This is the first game I've been able to see so far. I like Leino and Helm, I already liked. Hope Cheli is OK, had anyone heard the verdict?
Saran 1 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Think about it ... our amateur filled team (lacking Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Stuart, Lidstrom, Hudler, Sammy, Cleary) just barely gets beat by the Habs who had a majority of their top players in tonight. It was an awesome game though! The crowd made it sound like a playoff game. I wish JL was that loud

Helm and Leino were great tonight. So was Howard sans the shootout. The regulars who already know they're on the team? Not so much.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 I think what matters is that we're the defending champs. Everyones gonna be on our asses this year just to prove they can beat the Champs. Pre-season is no different.

Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Helm, what more needs to be said? The guy is a quality player and there is no doubt he is NHL ready. He could handle 3rd line minutes this season. Surely he's done enough to warrant staying in Detroit? I think he's played too well to be sent down but even if he is, I can't see him staying long in Grand Rapids. Good showing by Howard tonight, let's hope he keeps that up. He's probably going to start 1 more pre-season game so it's important he keeps working hard and comes out firing for his next outing. Leino is real impressive, he's just about our leading scorer in the pre-season and although he'll start the season in Grand Rapids, he too probably deserves to be in Detroit as he's done all he can do. He looks a very likely type and it's a shame he won't start with the Wings. Any updates on Chelios' injury? Filppula played 20 minutes tonight and not one post was made about him, was he that unnoticable? And lastly I hope Hossa really doesn't care about pre-season because he's been very underwhelming. Holmstrom96Screens 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 The reason why detroit didnt win tonight? Two words : Carey Price. and the fact detroit was missing like half their roster and then Cheli took a shot in the foot and he too left. And, Howard was in goal (not as good as Ozzie) Detroit shoulda scored more goals than they did tbh.
Vladiator 116 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Nice to finally watch the Wings play. Helm was just a monster tonight. Reminds of Draper a lot. Man the Wings and Habs have to play more often. That game was fun to watch considering it's just a preseason game.

Holmstrom96Screens 0 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) anyone else find Carbs slightly annoying? The man just irked me. standing behind the bench in his spiffy suit, crackin the gum and looking, well, arrogant. I mean I like Montreal as a second fave team (and I'm a fan of Carey Price) but Carbonneau just got on my nerves tonight. He just looked so darn arrogant. I liked carbs as a player but as a coach? Meh. That and Holmström did well. detroit almost got a few in because of Tomas causing havoc aroundthe net. and its true.....euro twins plus some other detroit players > any montreal roster since, yea, 1994. and the whole team after that since Roy left in december 1995. I like the habs but thats true what someone said about them. Edited October 1, 2008 by Holmstrom96Screens
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 (edited) And lastly I hope Hossa really doesn't care about pre-season because he's been very underwhelming. Honestly, I think that's exactly it. I'm sure he'll like it up in the regular season. Leino's SO goal was wicked. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Filppula played 20 minutes tonight and not one post was made about him, was he that unnoticable? And lastly I hope Hossa really doesn't care about pre-season because he's been very underwhelming. I thought that most of our regular players were pretty crappy - Rafalski, Filppula, Drapes, Malts, and Hossa - none of them did anything special outside of a play or two here and there. As for Flip and Hossa, Hossa looked like he didnt give a f***, and Filppula centering him was not a good move. At one point Filppula could've made a great backdrop pass to Hossa for the scoring chance, but instead he took the puck in deep and protected it along the boards as if he were trying to kill off time. Thats a texbook checking move. Filppula doesn't have the offensive instincts yet to give the puck up when he only has a split-second to think about what move to make. Hossa, I noticed, made a couple of no look passes kind of expecting someone to be there a la Datsyuk but no one was. Both players together was simply poor chemistry. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 1, 2008 Team Howe can't win a game to save their life. Break them up already, and start mixing the two teams together. Clearly they don't have any chemistry. ...and is just me, or does Hossa look extremely lethargic and unenergized out there? I'm not going to get on a guy for being bad in the pre-season, but he should still be showing more of an effort than he is so far. He's had the potential for some really good chances, but isn't doing anything with him. Oh well. I'm sure he'll turn it on the regular season. I just want to see him at his best right now, because he is a really exciting player when he's playing at 100%.

I just want to see him at his best right now, because he is a really exciting player when he's playing at 100%. I think Hossa will REALLY come alive with Datsyuk. Tonight he had some chances, looked OK but not 7 mill worthy, but he was playing with Homer and Filp, 2nd tier guys. When Datsyuk comes back and starts feeding passes tape to tape, setting up shot opportunities for Hossa to use his quick release.. it'll be unreal. Filp is more of a plugger who can create low quality opportunities but he can do it consistently... Hossa will thrive off of a centerman who can create high quality opportunities and take advantage of his skill level, at least that's how I feel if Hossa showcased anything tonight it was that he is rock solid physically.. he had the Habs 2 biggest D men bounce off of him tonight when they had him in the trolly tracks at full speed
