Roster prob solved!

Recommended Posts

Who goes who stays, we all have our own views on the issue. I doubt if any of us has the

same views. So as a bit of fun the easiest way is to brake the roster into ethical lines, see what you think. I could go with the end results;

Line Sweden

Larsson Lidstrom Kronvall Holmstrom Zetterberg Franzen

Line Nth America

Osgood Rafalski Stuart Cleary Draper Helm

Line Scandinavia

Ericsson Lilja Samuelsson Filppula Leino

Line Europe

Kindl Kolosov Hudler Datsyuk Hossa.

The obvious pointers is that Line Europes D would obviously be the 7th and 8th D men, and

spend most of the year in GR's whereas their Fwds could be either the 1st or 2nd line.

No Meech Lebda or Quincey. Is that too much to lose or do we have enough talent coming

thru on the D to cover the loss? Kindl,Kolosov, Pyett, Smith and Nicastro I say yes we do.

The top 6 D could perform for another couple of years by then some of the rookie D will be

ready. The 4 forward lines to me look good. Line NA would be the 4th line, most other NHL

sides would like a 2nd line of that quality.

Who's not in on the FWD's? Kopecky, Maltby, McCarty, Downey and Abdelkader. If we carry

a 13th Fwd I would go with Downey. He's only there for one reason and I feel he does it

better than Mac. Mac isn't up to pushing out any of the 4th liners so I see a mentors role for

him in GRs. So do we trade Kopecky and Maltby? Doesn't seem any other solution really. I

see Abdelkader having a year in GR and then taking Maltbys place the year after anyway. So

for me keeping Helm in now will benifit the Wings more in the long run. A full year playing with

Draps and Dan will improve him even more. He could then take over from Draps with Abdelkader coming up to fill his void.

Old man Cheli will stay on the roster as the spare D, I would have him getting more involved

with the coaching side of things as his exp would be invaluable to the rookie D's.

Cap wise I think we could pull it off as well.

Lebda Meech Quincey Maltby and Kopecky combine for $3.042m.

Bringing up Ericsson Leino and Helm would cost us $2.37m.

This is just a bit of fun as i said, but I do like the looks of the lines.

cool idea !! line north america is awesome. my appreciation for stuart skyrocketed yesterday when he dodged the unneccesary hit on kovalchuck, even though he couldve destroyed him. it just speaks to the respect they strive for on this team.

Hossa Dats Homer

Leino Zetts Cleary

Mule Draps Kopecky

Hudler Filp Helm

(Abdelkader, Malts, Sammy, Mac, Downey)

Lids, Rafi

Stuart, Kron

Ericsson, Quincey (chelios)

(Meech, Lebda, Lilja)

Osgood

Larsson

(Howard, Conklin)

I would like an explination for these lines, Helm i could see play this year, but not Leino, he needs more time playing on NHL sized rinks and learning how to play the faster game then he is used to.

I see no reason to have a Maltby out of the lineup either. Draper and him have great chemistry and are the best PK line the wings have. Sure, he dosn't put up a lot of points, but he would be either 3rd or 4th line, which arn't the big scoreing lines.

Also, why would you have Franzen on a line without Zetterberg. Playing on a line with Zetterberg last year was one of the reasons for his end of the season hot streak, not the only reason, but one of them.

My Lineup:

Hossa Datsyuk Holmstrom

Franzen Zetterberg Cleary

Hudler Filppula Samulson

Maltby Draper Helm/McCarty/Downey

(Abdelkader/Leino)

Lidstrom, Rafalski

Stuart, Kronwall

Lebda, Ericson/Chelios/Quincy

(Meech)

Osgood

Conklin/Howard

(Larsson)

I like the lines Babcock is using right now; the HDH and FZH combos provides two lines with the same kind of dynamics that the DZH line had. But if we are trying to assemble different lines, the only other significant reason I can see to be using different lines, barring injury or significant slump, which would be unpredictable, would be if the DZH line were reassembled.

So, with DZH intact, I would use one of the following lineups for the second and third lines.

Hudler/Filppula/Hossa

Cleary/Franzen/Samuelsson

Primary advantage - Hudler is allowed to serve in a more offensive role with Filppula serving as the defensive safety valve on line two.

Primary disadvantage - Franzen is not a natural center and so the third line sees a bit of a disadvantage on draws.

Franzen/Hudler/Hossa

Cleary/Filppula/Samuelsson

Primary advantage - Hudler is the top playmaker that can be paired with Hossa, and Franzen is a very solid physical player and defensive safeguard that can also serve in a Holmstrom-esque capacity.

Primary disadvantage - Questions about Hudler's size, as always, would be posed about having him center the second line.

Cleary/Hudler/Hossa

Franzen/Filppula/Samuelsson

Primary advantage - Hudler is the top playmaker that can be paired with Hossa, and Cleary's speed and shot, plus defensive ability make him the perfect secondary winger on that line. FFS is an established line with scoring chemistry that would be very effective playing as a third line.

Primary disadvantage - Again, Hudler's size.

Franzen is a natural center... http://www.redwingscentral.com/stories/200...aftTracker.html

...but he hasn't played center recently, so I'm sure he'd need some work on faceoffs to shake off the rust.

I, too, like the current lines Babcock is using. As long as Franzen can produce close to what he did last year, and if Hudler thrives with more icetime and more talented linemates, Zetterberg's line will be fun to watch. Hossa replacing Zetterberg on Datsyuk's line, they don't miss a step. Third line looks strong too, they'll chip in some goals.

Sweden is part of Europe and is included in "Scandinavia".

You might as well name the entire team "Sweden", and make them wear yellow and blue as their 3rd jersey.

Yeah? Well that also includes "Line Europe" so what's your point besides being a douchebag?

Wow, another poster trying to bait me into a flame war.

Nice try dude, but I've run out of my lifelines so I'll just let you pass and ignore you since you're probably not worth it anyway.

Franzen was playing center in Sweden when he was drafted...

BUT, he was converted to play that position because his Swedish team liked his size and his defensive responsibility. He is not a natural center.

Why would you have Maltby scratched. He is always a great shorthanded guy. Why would franzen be on the 3rd line when he had the best last month of the season and playoffs I have ever seen. I wouldn't put Quincey over Lebda just due to the speed factor, and I would put Larsson over Conklin when Ty was one of the main reasons why pittsburgh finished where they did in the east when Fleury was out for that month +.

I would go with

Holmstrom datsyuk hossa

Franzen zetterberg cleary

kopecky filppula hudler

Maltby draper mccarty (downey)

defense

lidstrom rafalski

Kronwall Stuart

ericsson lebda (chelios), (lilja)

osgood

conklin

I cant go with Abdelkader, or Leino yet just due to not enough experiance and if you wanna win the cup again go with guys who give you the best shot to repeat, and to get them under the cap I say trade samuelsson for maybe a hotdog and some cheese fries.

There were no insults anywhere in my post. I was just merely pointing out the irony of the original post. Thus, look through my post and show me where the insult was.

If people don't like the way I operate there's always something called the "ignore list".
