Season Opener Promotion

Rate this topic

Recommended Posts

I remember reading an article around the time that single tickets went on sale and remember seeing that the reason for the increased cost of the season opener is that they are giving out a gift at the game. Anyone else read this? And if so does anyone know what it is? Thanks

I remember hearing that everyone at the game will be given a mini replica of the banner that will go to the rafters that night. I hope so, I'm flying over for the game from Ireland and it'd be a very nice touch.

Can't fill the Joe, so what's the solution, raise the ticket prices. Makes perfect sense to me.

Yeah, because lowering the ticket price guarantees that those seats will be sold. [/sarcasm]

It's not as simple as just lowering the cost. The fact of the matter is its conceivable that Illitch could raise the cost, miss out on a sellout and make more money then lowering the costs and having all the seats sold.

It's easy for us to say "lower the costs Illitch" when its not our money to be made.

As much as I hate it too, it is a business. He does have to pay the team, workers, and others, then pay himself. You get a raise every once in a while so why not the beer guy. Plus the stuff to sell isn't getting cheaper. I'm sure the price to run the arena hasn't gotten any cheaper. (you want ice right) Plus it is an old building so it's more. He is trying. He has brought in a Buffalo Wild Wings stand and they were working on some other things. Hopefully there will be more give-aways this year. It seems like a group bought out the boxes between the miller lite party deck and the legends club, so that's not for us, but still improving. Also, I believe he's playing the Phoenix card and charging more for bigger games due to out of towners buying tickets. Season ticket holders got last years prices for ALL games. We weren't charged the up charge for big games. So if you remember that it doesn't all go into his pocket and the beer guy deserves a raise, may be it won't be so bad. Yea we can *****, and it will make us feel better, but I can see why.

Isn't the opener sold out? Higher ticket cost or not. People want to see it and will pay it.

Probably, and that reinforces my point. Whether people like it or not its a business and god forbid Illitch would raise the prices. How many things out there that we all buy on a daily basis are the same price as they were last year? The answer is not many. Why should ticket prices be any different?

Sorry I misunderstood your post.....Chances are they know the higher priced games will sell out because of what they are doing that day or who they are playing so why not try to make a buck.

I understand your faith and support in the Red Wings organization... but yes, lowering prices would make tickets more affordable to a lot more people. Maybe you have a lot of money and therefore will never understand what it's like to not be able to go to a game because it's too expensive. There is a big difference if a seat is ten dollars cheaper for working-class people.

don't you realize how much money this guy makes on the Wings? plus, they just won the Cup and therefore brought in plenty of extra (high-priced) play off games, and all the merchandise, etc.

I will never understand big-business backing when it comes from the people who are the ones feeding it and fighting for higher prices. never.

Will you bite the hand that feeds you? -nin

edit:

oh and, who wants to join my online petition for McDonalds? I'm fighting to have them raise their dollar menu prices by 10% because they've had everything at $.99 for a decade and gee whiz, those burger flippers need a raise! Who's with me? I want to pay more!!!!

Same with players signing contracts. It's amazing how easy it is to take a pay cut when it's not your money.

Hopefully they do something for opening night, and more promotions during the season.

Really. So you won't mind me telling your boss you don't need a raise. Oh and if it has Stanley Cup something or other, the money first goes to the NHL.

I guess he doesn't care about detroit.

Speaking of the banner, anyone know where to get a replica of the '08 version? I have the one that covers the previous ten championships but I would love to get one to commemorate this year's.
