toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 It's a good thing I was laying back, relaxing when I read this, otherwise, I might have fell down. Is there anything at all that this guy says even close to being accurate?? He is a writer with the Edmonton Journal. "Pittsburgh was smart to pick up Miro Satan because he's a more complete player than Marian Hossa," Adler says. "Hossa is a scorer, but so is Satan, except Satan knows even how to backcheck, AND he'll know how to get Crosby into scoring positions and get the puck to him. I think every now and then, a writer comes out with stuff like this and it reminds you that just because people are writing for newspapers, etc., it doesn't necessarily mean they know more than you do. egroen 384 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Yeah, that's a strange one. Satan making Crosby into a goal scorer is out there as well.
BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Maybe he means the Prince of Darkness, Beelzebub, if you will. I hear he's got a wicked wrist shot and backchecks with the best of them.
egroen 384 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 It will be an interesting year for the Pens -- no Whitney and Gonchar for a while will really hurt... but if they are making the playoffs without them, they will be able to afford a huge trade deadline deal like Hossa last year with all the cap space they will be saving. The Penguins forwards are probably better at the beginning of this season than they were at the beginning of last season.

Hahaha good point! I can't believe that person wrote that about Satan... and I'm even more shocked they think Hossa's not an elite defensive player!

On paper yes, but chemistry is important as well....no need to look any further than Datsyuk and Zetterberg.
egroen 384 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 (edited) On paper yes, but chemistry is important as well....no need to look any further than Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Yup... and that seems to be almost completely lost by a lot of GMs. Crosby could literally be seeing new wingers almost every single year the way they are setting up the team right now. SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Sports writers are good at writing pieces to stir up controversy or get people riled to some degree with some comments that would be made out of left field. Probably just doing something to stir the boiling pot between fans of both teams, although it is hard for me to take this seriously. Satan is a decent player, but I'll take Hossa over him 99 times out of 100.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 lol, what is he smoking? Satan couldnt even spell backcheck.

This is a VERY SMART POST!!!! I totally agree. What is it this year? Gabroik??? I am only guessing. lol Sports writers are good at writing pieces to stir up controversy or get people riled to some degree with some comments that would be made out of left field. This guy has to be a complete idiot. I do agree on the Hossa > Satan comparison though. Edited October 5, 2008 by rage

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 LMAO Writer from Canada MUST know more than that. My initial reaction as well. If you are a sports writer in Canada, you must have at least an intermediate hockey knowledge. I don't think this guy is actually "from" Canada though, I think he is European. But he should still know more about two European players. He's followed a lot of Satan's career (before NHL) and during his time with the Oilers, etc. Obviously, he's got a bit of bias happening here. No one can truly be this stupid. Hockeytown0001 7,652 Report post Posted October 5, 2008 Maybe Sid sold his soul to the devil to win the Cup just once....so Satan's here to feed him the puck and put him into scoring positions.
shadow47 1 Report post Posted October 6, 2008 Satan has scored anywhere he's been...nothing else really matters, Satan does his job, even in Buffalo he was the top scorer every year. Go figure, he's the the top scorer during the regular season and a healthy scratch in the playoffs. WTF is that?! There are a lot of players, esp. Europeans it seems, that are very streaky etc., Miroslav Satan scores consistently everywhere. Anyway, the point is, Sid will have a solid finisher if Miro is on his line this season, he's also a great passer. Can you say career year for Miro? I'd love to see it. That guy is very consistent.
