Gnredwing 10 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 I keep reading posts here about how Maltby should be benched in order to give some of the younger guys a chance to play. Someone even wrote Maltbys game went away ever since the lockout. Do people not realize that teams dont win championships without role players such as Maltby. Maltby is a fantastic pentaly killer, and is an asset to have play on the 4th line. Maltby has experience and knows what it takes to win, and for this reason alone should always be in the lineup. Maltby should not be taken for granted, he is still an important part of this wings team!
Guest Four Report post Posted October 19, 2008 You are pretty right, TAKE OUT KOPECKY!
skacore 2 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 I agree, Maltby still serves a purpose, he's a rock solid checking line winger... get rid of Kopecky and bring in some muscle
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Yes, I agree. His experience is huge. Yes, we have a logjam, but I thought the 1-10 run while the youngsters were filling in for the injured verterans, would have quelled that chant for a while. Long live the Grind Line! Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Someone praising Maltby? What? I dont believe you. I'm surprised this thread hasnt been derailed with "MALTBY OUT, LEINO IN, HAIL LEINO". I for one love the way he's playing so far, even though he still needs to hit more. Unfortunately, Kopecky is even less physical then Malts right now, I really wanna see a healthy D-mac and Downey in the line-up with Maltby, so he keeps the tough play up. rage 24 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Not to mention we made a commitment to him with his latest contract.
Chelichic 12 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 < Maltby hater and proud of it. LOL... glad you are proud... however; he has produced when we needed him most. Maltby stays.
RyanBarnes! 293 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 I feel Maltby can easily be replaced by the younger Helm, who is also a defensive specialist. As usual people use the experience factor to defend the presence of a familiar face, much like with Chelios. Detroit is a very experienced team so they can afford to sacrifice experience for youth in Maltby's case. Overall I would like to see Maltby and Kopecky out and Helm and Downey in to add more speed and toughness, but I suppose Kopecky is around to keep Hossa happy more than anything and this will not change. akustyk 84 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 Kopecky's been far from spectacular but I'd give him another chance. he needs to be told to move his ass more and pute more effort, though as for Maltby... he had a good game against Rangers but I'd not overstimate his role for the team. speaking of our players... I liked Meech yesterday. had a strong game with good sense and some nice jump
vangvace 12 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 LOL... glad you are proud... however; he has produced when we needed him most. Maltby stays. Don't worry a bad game or two and more people will agree with me again.
HadThomasVokounOnFortSt 878 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 I agree, you aren't going to win games with young players that haven't played in the NHL much. Keep Kirk Maltby in, he's a very good player.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 you aren't going to win games with young players that haven't played in the NHL much. I agree; the Wings are in serious danger of icing a roster with too little NHL experience. The last thing we need is another youngin'.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 (edited) Don't worry a bad game or two and more people will agree with me again. Malts is consistent. He does the little things you need done on the 3rd and 4rth lines that contribute to victories. He doesn't really have bad games. I would take old age experience, treachery and deceat, any day over youth, skill and enthusiasm. In short, Old Guys Rule. Edit: I do think we have not filled the void left by Dallas Drake. Nobody has stepped up to fill the Monster Hit category. He hit like a Termintator. Edited October 19, 2008 by T.Low
12Newf 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 so far maltby has impressed me. he looks better this year than he did last year and i still feel he serves a purpose. i love that detroit is loyal to players like maltby who have given so much and i say they keep signing him until he becomes a detriment
wingnut22 81 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 I have always been a huge fan of Malts. and will continue to be. I love seeing him in the Winged Wheel and hope he has a great rest of his career and hangs it up here. he is always out there getting under players skin, watch him durring any game. And, if he were gone, who would be the person on the ice throwing out the F-bomb left and right!?
Arde16 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 (edited) Maltby is precious player for us, no doubt about it and i think we should use him as long as he is willing to continue with his career. Edited October 19, 2008 by Arde16
babycks0612 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 some people in here keep talking about how we got to get rid of the old players and bring in the new players like Helm. Do you guys think were some losing team or something? EVERY person is a good contributor to the team, and Maltby still proves that he is a good player. Theirs some people on here that act like winning every single game is necessary when its not and thats not even possible. Have you forgotten that we just won the cup? uk_redwing 495 Report post Posted October 19, 2008 So long as he keeps up his current play he should be fine. Kopecky on the other hand...eugh. Downey>Kopecky.
