Mors 201 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Lidstrom has 6 points and is plus 7, lebda has zero and is -7 (The only person with a worse in the league +/- is...Schneider). At least Schneider has 1g 3a in the same number of games. Lebda hasn't given anything back in the other direction.
union drone 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 For all the trashing that Chelios got here before the season started, I'd bet there are a lot of people right now who wish that he was in instead of Lebda.
chrisdetroit 189 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 A pick for the early season worst player in the NHL. Difficult to pick someone this early on, but he makes a point at least for Lebda to pick up his play. http://www.kuklaskorner.com/index.php/psh/...n_worst_player/ Worst in the entire league? Out of almost 700 players. Now that's just stupid. His +/- isn't even the worst. That honor goes to would you believe - Matthieu Schneider Lebda is -7 Shneids is -8. But he said worst player, not just worst D Man How bout a Goaltender who played 9 games with the Worst GAA (4.26) and the 2nd worst Sv% (.842). Now that guy would be the worst player in the league. Say hello to Marty "head case" Turco heheheheh
Dominator2005 558 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 He actually has been brutal. It seems to be the LGW mantra to jump all over a guy for a single bad play let alone a bad game, but Lebda really, truly has been rough.

GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 I would pretty much agree that Lebda has a very strong case for the worst player in the NHL. If nothing else, Lebda has easily been the worst player on the Red Wings so far this season. The one thing Lebda is good for (speed) is hardly noticeable when Lebda spends most of his time turning the puck over and being out of position defensively. Lebda has been downright awful and there is no reason to keep playing Lebda over Meech, when Meech couldn't possibly be any worse. I didn't think it would come to this, but Chelios and Lilja is our best bet on the third pairing.

Doc Holiday 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 whoever starts to suck next will be Lebda sucks there's no denying that But I am not going to be worried about people thinking he is the worst of the NHL. Most of the players you listed don't deserve all the negativity they get, but Lebda doesn't fit that category. This isn't another trendy whipping boy scenario - Lebda has been brutal this season and there is no reason to keep dressing Lebda over Meech. I think this is a legitimate thread because Lebda has really been that bad.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Yet when I said that Quincey is and WILL be better than Lebda and that we should of kept him instead, I was pretty much laughed at. Good stuff!
savaking72 0 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 It's impossible for Lebda to be the worst in the NHL...He's from Notre Dame! Oh, I also agree with the person who said something about making the team through training camp. This is very true. Sort of makes you wonder how bad the guys who didn't make the team were. GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 (edited) Yet when I said that Quincey is and WILL be better than Lebda and that we should of kept him instead, I was pretty much laughed at. Good stuff! Quincey was the worst defenseman at training camp. He had a chance to outplay Lebda, Lilja, Meech, and Ericsson. Quincey would have never stuck with the Red Wings. The sixth defenseman is just keeping Ericsson's seat warm. Edited October 27, 2008 by GoWings1905
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 He actually has been brutal. It seems to be the LGW mantra to jump all over a guy for a single bad play let alone a bad game, but Lebda really, truly has been rough. Yup. I wouldn't go as far as to say hes worse in the league, but he really has been the worst performer night in and night out for the Wings. And the fact that he continually jumps into the play on offense when he has yet to contribute much of anything on offense drives me crazy.

YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Yet when I said that Quincey is and WILL be better than Lebda and that we should of kept him instead, I was pretty much laughed at. Good stuff! Quincey was terrible in the pre-season and useless ever since he play in the 07 playoffs. He had PLENTY of chances to show the coaching staff what he could do and he couldn't. At the end of the day, its not about who is better than who in an abstract sense, its about who fits better with the Wings, their system, their style of play, etc. Quincey was clearly not better than Lebda for the Wings if the Wings brass didn't think so. This is a team that gave everybody a chance to earn their spot, and theres no team better at determining whats best for their team than the Wings.
GoWings1905 2,694 Report post Posted October 27, 2008 Cool. So let's base a bad pre-season on him 'not' being better than Lebda. Right or wrong, Quincey didn't have a choice. 13 games of experience doesn't compare much to what Lebda and Lilja have. Quincey had to outplay all of the other defenseman and he didn't prove enough (or anything) for the Red Wings to give him a roster spot. Quincey had to literally win the job and he couldn't. If Quincey was truly better, he would be with the Red Wings still.
CloudConnected 0 Report post Posted October 28, 2008 Honestly, I don't think Quincey was given that much of a shot. When he was called up last year he wasn't bad, and he was probably a little too up tight this preseason. That being said...Here's Quincey's LA Kings stats! Quincey:4gp 1g 1a 2p +4 4PIM 22:22ATOI Looks like he's found his game nicely over there. Good for Quincey. He'll end up being better than Lebda. I've said this in the past and I'll say it again...Lebda is a smaller, less versatile Mathieu Dandenault.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted October 28, 2008 The Wings should have dumped Lebda because he brought no upgrade in skill in either direction over the guys competing for his job; he didn't utilize his speed meaningfully and his experience did not provide any sort of significant boost to the team. Furthering that, he was a young player who had effectively hit his peak as a third pairing defenseman and has shown that he can't really handle top-four minutes in the NHL. The other guys who were competing for his job; Quincey, Meech, Ericsson, and Lilja all brought more to the team. Only Lilja is older and Lilja is a very good PKer while Lebda is incapable of playing on special teams. The others are all better than Lebda at special teams to varying degrees, younger, and have all played better in limited time in a top-four role in the NHL than Lebda has in a similar amount of time in such a role. This offseason I argued that Lilja was the logical defenseman to trade or waive based on comments made by Holland about the Wings planning on carrying 13 forwards, 8 defensemen, and 2 goaltenders, and that Lebda was the other defenseman that would be considered because he was the most worthless. Had I known they would end up carrying the 22-man roster they ended up with, I would have argued that Lebda made the most sense for the reasons I stated above. Lebda is the eighth-best defenseman on the roster right now, and this is only because Ericsson is in Grand Rapids. If Babcock really means his 'the best players will be playing' comments, Lebda will be sitting in the press box once our defensemen return from injury. Fair or not, the lower-tiered defensemen in the Wings organization new the situation, one of them would be released or traded in all likelihood if they didn't perform on the ice or fit into the system. I like Quincey, think he's a cool dude, I hang out and have a few beers with him any day of the week. I don't get the benefit of watching preseason games but if he didn't step up enough in preseason, it's his fault for not playing better than Meech or Lebda or Lilja. As for Lebda, he's been underwhelming so far obviously, but there's plenty to go in the season to turn his game around.
