Ban Fighting?

Who is in charge of these FSN polls. Why would anyone think fighting should be banned. After the Weight hit the other day, ive herd the sports guys either on TV/Radio talking about taking 'head shots' away from the NHL. (I.E. a clean shoulder to the head would by outlawed)

Will these talks about making hockey more like soccer stop, this is getting ridiculus

"Head checking" is already banned at most levels of hockey, and is a game misconduct in some cases.

Nah, I doubt it'll go away anytime soon, nor do I want it to and it shouldn't go away.

I think the overall concepts of physicality/fighting/toughness/enforcement are seriously overblown in here at times and it is stuff I tend to avoid discussing since it's been talked about a bajillion times in here and you have overly extreme points of view on the subject by some, but pretty much like everybody else I like a good one-on-one scrap on the ice.

I get just as excited though about a highlight reel goal (see recent Datsyuk/Hossa goals), an acrobatic save, grinding work around the corners, etc.

Fighting should not be banned in the NHL, ever. Maybe "banned" isn't the right word, you can't completely prevent someone from throwing a punch... but the penalties should not be made more severe. The more you punish fighting, the more it opens the door for pain-in-the-ass guys to run around and take cheap shots, because they don't fear the retailation. A good, toe-to-toe, purposeful fight is quite often harmless and is good for the game as a whole.

The league has done much to get rid of the 70s-era brawls that involved both benches and sometimes fans. That was a black mark on the sport. Baseball might be wise to make a similar move... if a batter wants to go after a pitcher for throwing at him, that's all fine and good, but the altercation should only involve those two players. Bench-clearing brawls in baseball are stupid. The relief pitchers from the bullpen and the stinkin' bench coaches don't need to get involved. I'd like to see anyone who leaves his position in the field or the dugout/bullpen get tossed, fined, and/or suspended.

Fighting in hockey starts as young as the peewee level. For the NHL to ban fighting or to think they can ban fighting is ridiculas. It obviously helps to settle scores, cheap shots and to send messages. After the fight, its hockey as usual and players shake hands. End of story.

FSN was just looking for a little quick publicity.

Guys run out because more times than not, the pitcher would get his ass kicked. Just sayin'...

They can't outlaw a clean check to the head, if you want to do that start giving out penalties to the idiots with their heads down. Or the idiot that throws a "trolley-tracks" pass. Otherwise this game would be as ***** as a lot of other sports. Hits from behind and late hits should be what they focus on not these clean hit to the head cases that happen to knock like 2 guys a year only out because they were retards skating with their heads down. Most of the times hits that result in concussions are because of an elbow or charge, a punishable offense, but when its 100 pure clean like Wieght's was you can't do anything about that, except letting Sutter learn his lesson.

ban fighting. if there is a disagreement on the ice players can file a grievance and an arbitrator will be appointed by the league. each party can plead their case and then a formal ruling will be given by the arbitrator.

PROBLEM SOLVED. thats just what i do. solve problems.

Listen for all the steroids in baseball I haven't see a baseball player throw a real punch since Nolan Ryan put a hurting on Robin Ventura. No one gets hurt in baseball fights, just like no one throws a real punch with any intent, it is more like the fight in Dazed in Confused where the nerd thinks he can punch the cool kid and before the fight gets to far it will be stopped so he won't get his ass kicked.

Let's ban the instigator penalty instead.

Bingo. Let the players enforce themselves like it was back in the old NHL, and all of the cheapshots and bulls*** would be done away with, the veterans and the tough guys in the NHL wouldnt stand for it.
