umredwing11 2 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 Wings arent an elite team? Maybe they haven't played up to their potential, but it's ten games in. It's the same team from last year, plus a big free agent. They're resting on their laurels a bit much, but they'll come around. They always do. Exactly...they have elite players who are not playing up to their potential. If anybody can make these guys play up their highest levels it is Babcock. I have trust in him--he'll either get the effort he wants or bench them (hopefully).
Wings_Rule_1010 4 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 Hahaha! As pissed off I am at this team right now, its comments like that, that at least give me something to laugh at. LOL, yeah. As much as I hate losing, some comments on this site are so funny when we are losing.
Glubki 17 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 Good managers don't panic they forsee problems and nip them in the bud - lets see what Mike and Kenny do over the next 15 days to address the apathy we are seeing on a nightly basis. Something is amiss and discussing it hardly means people are hitting the panic button - just stating the obvious...

The Wings didn't get worse. They're PLAYING worse. This won't last. Something will click, sooner or later. Remember the last few months of the 2002 season? Or parts of last season? We were so sure they would never win the Cup, but they won both years. There you go.
umredwing11 2 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 I guess I'll look on the bright side right now...at least I am not a Lions fan. The wings have more wins right now than the lions will probably get in the next 2 seasons...combined.
puckbags 863 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 I think its funny that we are 7-2-2 and have played less than average...can you imagine what our record would be if we would've been playing good all year? The sign of great teams is when you can get wins when you arent playing your best. As for the Sharks...I will say it again...they look good but talk to me come playoff time. Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 I think this shows just how important Franzen is to this team. Not just because he's a scoring and hitting machine, but every line (bar the 1st) has become weaker due to his absence.

Yea, like that stretch where we didn't win a game in like 10 games? We were all freaking and I am pretty sure things turned out okay. Hopefully this game pissed every single Red Wing off and things will get better from here ::keeps fingers crossed::

RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 The Wings are still a very elite team. They just haven't played like it yet. "But then they aren't an elite team if they haven't played like it, blah blah blah." I get it. This is a team that should be playing far better than they are right now. Still, this is an extremely talented group of players. Hell, they're 7-2-2. Say what you want, but a record is how you identify an elite team. They have played well enough to earn points in 9 of 11 games. That's a pretty great start. This was a tough scenario tonight. We're on the road, we played last night, San Jose is rested and playing extremely well. I'm not going lose too much sleep over it. So, yeah, we're probably going to need to get better. We still haven't played 60 minutes. Yadda yadda yadda. I understand the concern. But saying that this team is not one of the best in the league is ridiculous. Hockeytown Red Wings 245 Report post Posted October 31, 2008 No. They aren't an elite team. And Babcock agrees. Babcock should say that because their level of play hasn't been deserving. But I think everyone in the world knows that the Wings are the elite team. They aren't playing great, yes. There is no reason to open any bottles of champagne. I just think it's little much if you believe the Wings arent an elite team, as opposed to an elite team that is playing like piss.

The wings have more wins right now than the lions will probably get in the next 2 seasons...combined. You see, I am a Lions fan, which is why I find it hard to get too pissed off watching my favorite team, the defending Stanley Cup champs, play a little lacksadaisical. I'm not saying I'm not unhappy with their performance, but I guess I'm like the Wings, I'm still fat and happy with last season and believe we'll get it going. Please...now you're just being a homer. The Sharks are the best team in the league and the talk of the league is how much they have changed. McLellan has done wonders for this team. This isnt a team that is riding by on talent anymore. They're working hard and playing strong at every position - if anything, the roles are reversed and the Wings are the ones getting by on talent.
