shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 That's just stupid. I see no problem with them using that logo. Also, isn't the USA logo on the front of their jersey the crest for the USA hockey group as well? I thought it was but maybe i'm wrong.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Also, isn't the USA logo on the front of their jersey the crest for the USA hockey group as well? I thought it was but maybe i'm wrong. Yeah, which means they'll likely have to change, too.

This Is Bida 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 Pretty sure the USA Hockey logo's aren't what is used for the USA Olympic jerseys... hold on... USA Hockey logo #1 USA Hockey logo #2 USA Jersey While it is similar they might be able to get away with it because it's not identically the same. Either way, this is completely stupid to me. DyingAlive 27 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 I would think that they'll tweak the logo as slightly as possible in order to abide by the rules but still keep the same look. Dumb rule, I for one love that logo and I'm American

The real crime here is those ******* ugly socks! Whoever thought vertical striping on socks was a good idea? I also think I read somewhere that they did that for performance issues. WTF? What difference does it make if the stripes on your socks are horizontal (like they should be) or vertical? Oh yeah, and this is a stupid ruling. Let the Canadian folks where what they've been wearing. Making a big deal out of nothing IMO.
BuckeyeWingsfan80 209 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 http://ca.reuters.com/article/domesticNews...E4A256Z20081103 f*** the IOC. Just like how they eliminated Baseball and Softball from the summer Olympics, if the Canadians and Russians continue to dominate hockey they will eliminate that too. shoe 165 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 the sweeds and the fins are also going to have to change, I dont know the sweeds as anything other than that gold crown, makes no sence. I often wonder about people who make rules.
MacK_Attack 108 Report post Posted November 4, 2008 (edited) I don't get it. What is the reason for that rule in the first place? The logos of each sport federation for each country are considered corporate logos, which are forbidden in the Olympics. Basically, if you commercially market your federation using the logo like Hockey Canada does, you can't use it in the Olympics. Guest CaliWingsNut Report post Posted November 5, 2008 The Olympics doesn't want team canada's logo on the jerseys used in olympic related events because it is seen as a corporate logo, therefore advertising for canada's team hockey programs. The jersey should be representing the country of canada, not it's hockey program. USA's is simular, however it's not the same logo, and it says USA... I see this as mostly positioning upon the IOC's part to prevent something serious like real advertisements that the IOC doesn't get a cut from.
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2008 Seriously? Who really effin cares? It will still be team Canada. The only reason I find this somewhat interesting is that hockey is different than most Olympic sports in that the jersey a hockey player wears is more 'logo friendly' than any other uniform. So, I'm interested in seeing what they will wear.
JMNards 0 Report post Posted November 6, 2008 As the governing body of the Olympics, Winter or Summer, just like any governing body, has to fabricate "rules" to make themselves look more powerfull. It seems as though that the teams and countries programs where "getting too powerful" as opposed to the Olympics themselves. Every 2 years you hear about some rule being enforced that is just proposterous. The Olympics mean less and less to me every other year. Perhaps this "rule enforcement" was to sell more jearseys. I apologize for my modicum of quotation marks.
55fan 5,133 Report post Posted November 6, 2008 Thank you for the explanation. It's still stupid. (You all knew that.) Of course it's a logo. The hockey team is a business, therefore a corporation. The logo is representative of that team/corporation/business. Duh. It's not like they're putting the Molsom logo on it, or something where they are accepting outside financial considerations for advertising. They are just letting people know who they are.
